Story
We have a transport to the east coast where we will be personally taking our dogs home leaving in the beginning of March 2025. Surrounding states will be added to our route if needed ☺️ We would love to add Max to our trip for the right home 💙 Meet Max 💙 He is a 1 year old Poodle/Maltese. He is set to be neutered on 12/17/24 and will officially be available for adoption soon after. He will be current on all vaccines, microchipped, thourely examined, and cleared by our vet prior to adoption. I don't have his weight but I'll update it here as soon as I do. He is crate trained, and currently sleeps in his crate at night to sleep or to nap during the day. He is very well behaved so if you were wanting to have him on a dog bed aside yours in your room in place of a crate I'm certain he will do wonderful with the change. He is house trained, and goes out to use the restroom when needed throughout the day. He does very well with a schedule, and will happily go out when asked to if he needs to 😊 He is doing okay on leash, he isn't bad on it just still learning confidence in the world. He is the sweetest boy ever, just a a bit shy! I'm confident in his ability to learn that leash time is a happy time and one worth getting excited about! He is wonderful with other dogs and cats alike and has a very docile, submissive demeanor. He would do wonderful having another animal friend in his home that was equally tempered 💙 He is NOT a barker. He is quiet, and calm. Don't let his age deter you, as he has an old soul and would make any home complete in a way only he could! He is a total charmer. Loves to be snuggled. Is very independent and will lounge around while you tend to your day waiting patiently for you to clear your time for him ☺️ He is wonderful on road trips around town, and is just always happy to be included in life's ventures. He does very well with our groomer, and has learned the comfort of a good spa day so we welcomes them every time with a wagging tail 💕 His prior owners were a young family that had never owned a dog before and thought they could juggle work, family, and a dog but they realized he was getting less and less attention and knew it wasn't fair to him whatsoever being on the back burner to their lives and wanted him to have more, like he deserved to have so they reached out to us here to take him in and find him a wonderful new home and humans to love ❤️ If you are in search of a sweet friend who will love you with every fiber of his heart, I assure you that you'll be grateful for the love Max has to give you💕 His adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of his adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/__max It covers his vet costs, the care associated in the time he has been here with us, his grooming costs, and the training we have personally done with him 💙

Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about within a reasonable commute from Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit Meet Blackberry! Blackberry is a 10-year-old, 10 lb mini Poodle mix who was surrendered by his owner. He had been sadly neglected and it was time for a new beginning. Blackberry was brought into our care and immediately received a sedated shave and was neutered. It was discovered that one of his eyes was missing, and the other one was so damaged, it had to be removed. Although Blackberry is deaf as well as blind, he doesn’t miss a trick. This amazing pup can wake from a sound sleep, sniff his way across the room, and jump on the sofa to find his foster mom eating cereal without him! Blackberry is very close to being housebroken. He will wear diapers, but only if he needs to be alone for several hours. When he is kept on a schedule, he remains accident free! Blackberry can’t do stairs, but very quickly learned where the front door is and how to step down out of the house. Blackberry doesn’t require any monthly prescription medications but will take Trazadone on occasion when he needs to be alone for several hours to avoid separation anxiety. Due to being both blind and deaf, he would be happiest to have an owner who is home most of the time. He likes to know his people are near and will cry out if he feels lost. Blackberry gets along well with other dogs but doesn’t like cats. He would do best in an adult-only home or one with dog savvy children that are aware of his special needs. Blackberry walks on a leash but tends to criss cross and would be happier with a fenced-in yard. Blackberry is a super sweet pup who enjoys greeting people. He loves to have his belly rubbed, get picked up, and enjoys lots of cuddles. He happily sleeps in bed with his foster mom and is a certified couch potato. If you need an adorable, furry friend to keep you company and make you smile, please apply today!!

Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Philadelphia, PA for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Rocky! Rocky is an 11-year-old, 23 lb. poodle mix who was left at the shelter by his owner. He was weak, scared, and in a lot of pain before we lovingly brought him into our rescue. Rocky was quickly groomed to fix his matted fur and had to be treated for urinary and ear infections. He was also neutered and received a dental. Rocky has good hearing but limited vision. He gets along well with cats and other calm dogs and can handle a few stairs. Rocky wears belly bands and diapers. He requires frequent potty breaks so an owner who is home most of the time would be ideal. When he needs to be alone for several hours, his foster mom will diaper him. Rocky is eager to please but not super fast to learn so he will need a very patient owner. He gets scared and defensive at loud, angry voices so he would do best in an adult-only home or one with dog savvy children. However, Rocky also responds very well to positive reinforcement. It will take Rocky a bit of time to get adjusted to a new environment, but with much patience and praise, he will love you forever. Thanks to his amazing foster mom, Rocky has transformed from a scared dog into a sweet, happy boy who dances for his dinner. He loves to play, demands belly rubs, and wags his tail whenever someone enters a room. Rocky enjoys exploring and taking “sniff walks.” At night he likes to be patted on the head so he knows you are nearby. All this sweet boy needs is a patient, understanding family to help him live his best life. Can it please be you? Apply today!

Story
Finley is being fostered in PA. Finley is a very sweet, gentle, 8 year old mixed breed boy who loves all people and gets along great with other dogs and cats. He is much more interested in his human and being right with his human than he is about other animals. Finley is a spry, healthy little man who was excellent for his grooming and at his first vet appointment where he had blood drawn and was given vaccines. Everyone comments on how sweet he is and his foster mom thinks he's pretty much perfect. Finley has some vision and is very able to follow his foster mom all over the house. He quickly learned how to go up stairs and he can come down them well now, unless they are new to him. He is apprehensive on unfamiliar stairs and needs help getting started but then he's fine. Finley has sporadic skin issues that seem to cause his hair to be a bit thinner on his back end and belly. These issues may be caused by seasonal allergies but we are not exactly certain of the cause yet. Finley appears to understand potty training but because he is not neutered, he is marking a little, living in a house with other dogs, but he wears a belly band very well. This should improve significantly after he is neutered. Finley is scheduled to be neutered on November 20th and then he will be all set to find his forever family. They will be very lucky people to add this adorable man to their home. He has so much to give and wants nothing more than to be your best friend. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately. 12/6/2024 Finley has recovered from his neuter surgery and is waiting for his forever family to find him. He is an absolute love bug and will make the perfect little companion. He continues to follow his foster mom all around the house and insists on being on her lap every time she sits on the recliner. Finley is very good with the cats and other dogs in his foster home and navigates stairs and follows his foster mom to the door to go outside. He responds very well to his name. Although he is 8 years old, he acts much more like a 3-4 year old. He loves to play with many different types of toys and especially loves to play tug with his human. He is adorable to watch choose his toy from the toy box. Finley's skin issues have also cleared up with antibiotics. Finley is an amazing, healthy little man who is patiently waiting for his forever family.
