Story
Penelope is an 8 week old adorable little pup weighing about 5lbs.  We are guessing she will be about 20-30lbs when full grown.  Penelope's mom was surrendered to a shelter in Kansas.  The shelter is an overcrowded shelter that gets almost no foot traffic so they asked up to take Rosie (Penelope's mom) and find her a good forever home here in CO so she didn't end up spending months in the shelter, or worse, being euthanized.  To our absolute surprise, Rosie ended up going into the labor just hours after getting to CO.  She gave birth to two beautiful puppies, but unfortunately only one survived, little Penelope.  While Momma is about 8lbs, Penelope was growing super quick.  We don't know what the dad was, but we were told there was a larger Shih Tzu/Poodle in the home Rosie was in and he could be the dad, so thats the information we have to go off of.   Penelope is now 8 weeks old and ready to find her forever family.  She is a wonderful little pup.  She gets along great with all other dogs (big and small), cats and all people.  She has been well socialized and her fosters have been doing a great job with raising her to be a wonderful little dog.  Penelope would do great with a family with another dog, or an active family who can truly get a young pup the mental and physical stimulation they need daily.  While Penelope will be on the smaller side, all dogs still love to be active and have their worlds expanded.  Penelope is very affectionate and would love a human to snuggle with and spend each and every day with.  While being active is important for all dogs, Penelope would be happy with some netflix and snuggle days too.  She is just a perfect little girl. Morrie was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2248406##
