Story
Copper could be that dream come true pup for retirees who enjoy spending their time with a gorgeous guy who is so loving and absolutely irresistible. There's no question that Copper would also do well with gentle, dog-loving older kids who enjoy the fun and snuggles that a sweet dog brings to a family. Copper has been identified as a Miniature Poodle..with Maltese Terrier in the mix for additional cuteness and fun. Texas veterinarians make all decision on breed mix..all we know is that this guy is sweet, loving and absolutely irresistible! Farfel's wants to make certain that Copper is handled kindly and with respect. He'll return that loving treatment a thousand times over with loyalty and kindness. This little guy is as sweet as can be, silly and playful, and once comfortable in his environment, is entertaining in his silly antics and the love that he wants to share with everyone who is kind to him. Being a young and super-smart Poodle / Maltese mix, Copper enjoys physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. Once over all the changes in his life, Copper will be a natural in positive reinforcement / force- free obedience classes. These classes are so important in bonding as well as teaching a dog the skills (in a very positive way) to understand boundaries and commands. This creates a well-behaved partner both at home and out in the community. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person force-free / positive reinforcement trainers in your area. Copper's sad story is all too common. He was picked up on the scary urban streets by an animal control van and delivered to a high-kill shelter where he was scheduled for euthanasia due to lack of space. Fortunately, sweet Copper was recognized for his great temperament and after a plea went out to save his life, Farfel's Rescue was happy to step up for this wonderful guy. Copper may initially be a bit shy due to all the changes in his short life..but give him just a minute (a belly rub and yummy treats are wonderful) and he inches just a bit closer to a welcoming lap. Before you know it, he's gently loving you with a soft kiss. Copper's Texas rescuers recognized all of this and knew that there was a Colorado home that would fall in love with this stunning guy and desire to make him a permanent and very important member of their family. At 18 months old and a very portable 15 lbs, Copper is a perfect size for hiking the paths of the Colorado mountains, neighborhood walks (he's a social guy) and backyard fun with his family...and then at the end of the day, sweet Copper would enjoy nothing more than a warm spot on the couch or bed next to his favorite people. Copper enjoys his relationships with other dogs as well and would have so much fun with another playful and gentle canine companion. Copper would do well with a family who's invested in spending time with their pup. He'll be a committed and loving best friend who would be overjoyed to come along and be part of the fun. He's so pleasant and portable (once comfortable) that he can be a part of any adventure. It can be a visit with friends, a car ride, a vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch. All of this would speak to Copper's sweet temperament and love of his family. Farfel's isn't open to a home where family members spend their days working full-time outside of the home. We'd like Copper to get more time and attention than is possible with that lifestyle. Those who work from a home-based office would be perfect for this sensitive guy. Copper, as his breed mix would support, is a non-shedding guy and a perfect choice for those with allergy concerns. He therefore will require periodic grooming (approximately every 8 - 10 weeks) and excellent nutrition including 5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement for longevity and eye / coat care. With this care, Cooper will have a cottony-soft coat that is shining with excellent health. Copper has been fully vetted and vaccinated to fulfill Farfel's commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to support our work in zero population growth in the canine population.. Copper will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 11/22//2024. If interested in this very loving and devoted best friend, please fill out a Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Applications can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Copper please be sure to submit the Farfel's Rescue adoption application that can be found at the link above or at farfels.com. Rescue site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information for us to determine a great match for this very deserving dog and therefore aren't useful. We're sorry, but in many circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

UPDATE 4-21-24: Check out Remy's new video on our SummitDogRescue.org website! https://www.summitdogrescue.org/meet-remy.html - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Meet Remy! He is, according to his DNA, a mix of Poodle, Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Pekingese, Papillion and Rat Terrier (with maybe a touch of American Eskimo). Chihuahua and Poodle are his dominant breeds (over 25% each), and then the others are splattered in there. Despite his size, he would love an active lifestyle. This adorable little guy needs a patient, loving and calm home in order to live his best life! We suspect he was abused at some level as he has some trauma around being handled. He was adopted out but is being returned due to his handling issues, and he just isn't a right fit for his current home. Remy did great living with multiple dogs in his foster home and seems to really like dogs. He has lived with a cat and did okay, but it should be a fairly confident cat. Remy is 16 lbs. of cuteness. He's young, neutered and up to date on his vaccines. We suspect that his time before coming to rescue was not so great... He's easily startled by quick hand movements and will need people who are very conscious when petting him. He'll need a special adopter to go slowly and continue to help him feel safe. We think he'd love a quieter house, maybe with a dog or dog-savvy kitty who can hang out with him and help him learn that life is good, and that no one is going to hurt him ever again, nor will anyone force him to do anything. He doesn't like being picked up, and he doesn't feel comfortable at the veterinarian. This will take time, commitment and giving him confidence (please Google "cooperative care" to learn more). All that being said, despite being low in confidence, Remy loves being outside and going on sniff walks and exploring trails. We actually think this little guy would love to live in a rural setting and just run free on a farm, hiking and exploring trails, chasing squirrels, etc. but he could do well in suburbia with a large yard! Applicants will need to work with our behavior team to learn how to work with him and help him gain confidence (his human needs to be very open to learning!). This is included in his adoption fee of $125. For more info and/or to apply to adopt Remy, send us an email at SummitDogRescue@gmail.com, telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you as soon as they can. Thanks.

Story
Presley is a one-year old Maltese Miniature Poodle mix. He looks like a little Muppet! He has been in foster for over 6 weeks and now weighs a healthy 10lbs! Presley loves to bounce around the house (he is hard to keep off of the furniture). His also loves playing with stuffies (especially the squeaky ones!). When he first arrived in foster, he was a little shy at first. His confidence has grown so much after spending time with dogs of various sizes. He even has spent a few Saturday afternoons at “puppy play group”! He loves to play and climb on little obstacle courses. Presley is NE Denver in foster home. He is exposed to cats, dogs (of all sizes!), and kids. He has adjusted quickly in a controlled environment. He is crate trained and mostly potty-trained. He is working on walking on a leash. He will do best with an adopter who is around most of the day. He loves dog buddies, especially in a yard. Presley has a lot of energy if he is around other dogs. We are unsure how he will feel if he is the only dog in the home. Although he does well in a crate over night, he will bark if he is restless. This could be a problem for people who work longer hours during the day. His foster is recommending Presley’s adopter be dog-savvy or be willing to work with a trainer.

Story
This precious dog is available to the right adopter who will be patient and give this shy dog time to adapt. Dot is guessed to be 4 years old Miniature Poodle. She is an adorable pup who loves to play and prance about. She can be a bit shy at first but is quickly learning that humans are good for lots of cuddles. She is currently being fostered with one of our dog trainers that specializes and rehabilitates timid, shy dogs. She is the perfect size for snuggling and her eyes will melt your heart! Her foster mom thinks she would do better in a quiet home with adults or older children to work with her. Another confident dog could be helpful, but not necessary. Her foster mom has an amazing rehabilitation protocol to help these scared dogs and is working with her on potty training, socializing with dogs and humans, kennel training, doggie door training and if time permits, even leash and car training. She also has an amazing group of volunteers that meet twice a week to help socialize all the scared foster dogs in her care. There are lots of other dogs at her foster moms house so we know she is dog friendly. Her foster doesn't have any cats but thinks she would be fine with them if introduced slowly and properly. She will need an adopter, who will give her love and patience. Please consider this adorable girl as a part of your family. She deserves all the kindness and will give you a lifetime of affection. The shy dogs become the most loyal dogs, who adore their humans. Her foster mom is located in Fort Collins Colorado and wants to find a patient adopter, who has experience with handling and rehabilitating shy dogs, or who is willing to help him continue gaining confidence by taking one of Jodi's foundation classes in person or via zoom. This class is NOT basic obedience, but instead, is designed for rescue dogs and teaches the adopter how to work to build the dogs confidence and overcome any trauma the dog may have experienced. This training would definitely help the family and this sweet guy adjust to their new life together quicker. She provides a discount on training.
