Story
Meet Griggs, a sweet and gentle miniature poodle with a heart full of love just waiting to be shared. This handsome boy had a home for over a year but was recently returned due to his former adopter’s health challenges. Griggs is now back with us, patiently waiting for his second chance at a forever family.Though he may be a little shy at first, it’s clear that Griggs wants to trust. With patience and kindness, he’ll quickly show his loving and loyal nature. He was previously potty trained in his home, so he’s already a step ahead in that department! Griggs enjoys spending time outside but isn’t a big fan of grass—he’ll appreciate a nice patio to lounge on instead.Griggs adores treats and absolutely loves curling up in a lap to watch TV—he’s the perfect companion for cozy evenings at home. He would thrive in a quiet, calm home where he can take life at his own pace and feel safe and cherished. If you’re looking for a devoted friend to snuggle up with, Griggs just might be the one for you. Come meet him and see if your lap is the perfect fit for this sweet boy!- - - - -Before being rescued, many of our dogs have had limited socialization, so they may need a bit of time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog`s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
HIGHLIGHTS:Needs another confident dog already in the homeNeeds a fenced-in backyardExperienced and patient familyNeeds an adult only home#### Meet Fancy, a resilient two-year-old Lhasa Apso weighing 12 pounds. Though initially shy, Fancy actively works with our dedicated staff to build courage and improve social interactions. With these interactions every day, she dreams of a patient and loving family who will support her journey of growth. With the right loving and patient family, Fancy will undoubtedly thrive and become a beloved lifelong companion.Fancy needs a home with an experienced owner to continue to help her grow. Although still shy of people, Fancy will gladly take treats. She also loves to play and throw a toy around as she zooms around the play yard. She would benefit from a small or medium-sized confident dog in the home to help show her the ropes. She can be weary of big dogs at first, but she just needs a chance to get to know them. Fancy is working on her leash training and her comfort level with humans, but has already come so far! Because of this she will need a home with a secure fenced in yard of at least 4` in height. * * * *Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. Because some of our dogs are very under socialized, they may not be a good fit for young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Some of our more fearful dogs will do best in a home with another dog and a securely fenced yard. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, many of these dogs come around with patience and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
HIGHLIGHTS:Prefers to be the only dog in the homeNeeds a fenced-in backyardNeeds a quiet homeMeet Tate, a 13-pound male Miniature Poodle who is so adorable, he barely looks real ... more like a stuffed animal come to life. With his sweet and shy demeanor, Tate can often be found standing curiously at the front of his kennel, hoping someone will come by to show him a little love.Though he’s a bit shy with touch right now, Tate’s curiosity is his guiding light, helping him warm up to new experiences and people fairly quickly. He just needs to know that he is safe and loved. Tate does wonderfully outside in the yard, where he enjoys sniffing around and exploring his new world at his own pace. He has started to get comfortable walking on leash, but gets scared sometimes and will need some work on that in his new home.Tate will thrive in a calm and patient home where he can slowly grow into the loyal companion he’s meant to be. He prefers to be an only dog, so meetings with another dog will be considered on a case-by-case basis and involve a meeting with his potential sibling. Are you ready to offer Tate the loving and supportive environment he deserves? This little guy is eager to find his forever home where he can blossom into the best friend you’ve been waiting for.- - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. Story
Meet Nemo, a shy and cautious 10-pound miniature poodle who is still learning to trust the world around him. Though he’s friendly, Nemo prefers to keep a bit of distance from people right now and isn’t quite ready for pets, especially from strangers. He finds his greatest comfort in the company of other dogs and enjoys observing the fun in the playgroup from the sidelines rather than jumping into the action.Nemo is still learning how to walk on a leash, and having a more confident dog friend in his new home will be essential to help him navigate this big, new world. With time and patience, Nemo seems like a dog who’s searching for that special “person” to bond with, and once he finds them, he will likely become a loyal, loving companion. Stay tuned as Nemo continues to grow into the dog he’s meant to be!- - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. Story
Meet Oliver, a sweet 15-pound miniature poodle who is friendly but currently a little shy. He enjoys being petted but hasn`t quite figured out how to ask for them just yet. Oliver gets along well with other dogs, though he prefers those who match his calm energy. He tends to shy away from more active dogs who get in his face, so a dog friend with a similar temperament would be ideal. Oliver is searching for love, but he’s still learning how to seek it out on his own. He’s a gentle soul who wants to be brave, and with a little patience and a calm environment, he will surely blossom into the confident dog he’s meant to be. If you`re looking for a calm and sweet companion, Oliver is waiting for the perfect home where he can grow and thrive!- - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. Story
Morrie was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2248406##
