Story
After spending nearly a year at Shelter Hope without a single inquiry, Simmba is finally getting a chance to shine in a foster home — and he’s proving to be smart, playful, and full of love. Simmba is a 3-year-old Poodle mix who was surrendered the day after Christmas in 2024. Before that, he lived mostly outdoors and received less attention as his family’s children grew older. Despite this, Simmba has a huge heart and blossoms with patience, consistency, and kindness. He’s fully potty trained, food-motivated, and already knows the “sit” command. He loves fetch, squeaky toys, and zooming or rolling through the grass, as well as soaking up the sun on his favorite bench. Indoors, he keeps his lamby toy close, happily offers enthusiastic face kisses, and adores cuddles, belly rubs, and simply being near his people. He also respects boundaries and will retreat to his bed or “sanctuary” when asked. At his foster home, Simmba has done well with friendly men and women and is learning that the world can be a safe and positive place. He does best in a calm, low-chaos environment, as see him grow more confident and relaxed. Foster is actively socializing him with new people and other dogs, and he’s making excellent progress. Simmba can be protective and sometimes needs help navigating his big feelings — which is why he’s often called a “project dog” — but he bonds deeply and is incredibly loyal once trust is built. He does have some skin allergies, possibly food-related, and currently wears a cone to prevent licking, though it doesn’t slow down his playful, quirky personality. With his fun-loving nature, Simmba could do well with another small, friendly, playful female dog as a companion. What he truly needs is someone willing to give him the time and understanding he’s waited so long for. Simmba has so much love to give — all he’s missing is his forever home. 🐾 ------- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Story
Ohnee is a 7.5-year-old, 17-lb poodle whose life has been shaped by loss, but her heart is still so full of love. When Ohnee was just a puppy, her beloved human mom passed away. She was taken in by the daughter, who already had too many dogs and couldn’t properly care for them. Over the years, Ohnee quietly endured neglect until animal control stepped in. She was surrendered to Shelter Hope so she could have the best chance at finding the loving forever home she deserves. When Ohnee arrived, she was in rough shape, severely matted, overweight, and filthy. The vet removed two mammary tumors and gave her a full dental and bloodwork. Today, Ohnee is feeling so much better and showing us who she really is. And who she is? A gentle, playful, and mellow little soul. Ohnee seems housebroken, enjoys being around kids, loves people-watching, and is perfectly content relaxing in her dog bed, soaking in the calm she’s been missing for so long. Ohnee has lost so much in her life, but she hasn’t lost her sweetness. She’s ready for a soft place to land, a steady routine, and someone who will love her for the rest of her days. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a quiet, resilient spirit, Ohnee is waiting for you! More from her foster: She likes short walks and literally prances every morning because she is so happy to see me. Super sweet little girl. Unfortunately she is almost completely deaf. She's needs a calm household with people who are mindful of where she is. ------ Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Story
This girl is on fire! Meet Leasha Keys (aka Alicia Keays), a loving Terripoo ready for her second chance. Leasha is a 1.5-year-old and 16lb sweetheart who came to us as an owner surrender from Taft after her family moved into a home that didn't allow pets. All four of their dogs were surrendered to Shelter Hope. This affectionate girl is happy, playful, and friendly. She does great with other dogs, walks nicely on a leash, and enjoys car rides. Leasha is a pro at using the doggy door and appears to be housebroken. Her foster family tells us she is truly a joy to have around and that they cherish her more each day. Currently, Leasha is being treated for an eye injury that has left her blind in her right eye. She’s safe, comfortable, and is getting excellent care—including regular visits with an ophthalmologist—while she rests and heals in her foster home. If you’re searching for a gentle, snuggly best friend, Leasha Keys is your perfect match. She’s spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to be “Fallin’” in love with her forever home. More from her foster: She loves to fetch and play. She sticks her head out the doggy door to watch for squirrels and birds. A house with school aged kids would be great. She would love another dog to play with. She keeps trying to get my dogs to play. Her eye looks great now although she is blind in her right eye. —----- Looking to Adopt? Story
My name is Max and I am a very loving, sweet, kind and spunky senior poodle. I have been with my mommy since I was 3 months old and now that my mommy and I are both seniors we each need to be taken care of by extended villages. I recently lost my eyesight, and my mommy can no longer carry me up and down the stairs and everywhere I want to explore, but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying life, not one bit. Recently I went to the vet and was told I am a very healthy senior dog with all of my immunizations up to date. I am looking for a forever home to live out the rest of my senior years

Story
Oreo is a female Poodle mix, 11 years old and weighs 8 lbs. The previous owners took her to the shelter because they apparently could not take financial care of a ‘visually impaired’ dog. Oreo was terrified being in the shelter and missed her family and was going to be euthanized for space due to her age and limited vision. One of our volunteers rescued her shortly before this could happen. Oreo can see shadows so is not completely blind and able to get around her Foster Dad’s house without any issues. She needs a calm, quiet household where she can live out her retirement and be loved. Oreo is up to date on vaccines and microchipped. If you are interested in her, please complete the application on our website: amrdog.org. LOCAL AREA ADOPTION
