Story
We are incredibly impressed at what a champ Rocco has been overcoming two significant medical issues. He never complains and just accepts the love and various treatments or physical therapy. Rocco is a super cute 3 year old poodle mix from the Napa Shelter euthanasia list. He needed intensive treatment for untreated perianal fistulas that were badly infected. Thankfully he has responded well to antibiotics and a special diet so he won't likely require surgery as long as he keeps it up. He was just about ready for adoption when he suffered a blown disc in his lower back that partially paralyzed him. You can imagine our relief when he began to move his hind legs again and walk short distances after 9 weeks of crate rest. Now it has been 12 weeks since his injury and he no longer needs a wheelchair to move about his foster home or go on short walks! We are optimistic he will continue to gain strength in the coming weeks. For now, Rocco is doing daily stretches to loosen up his stiff legs, swimming with a life vest, and his foster mom treats him to red laser sessions each day (he's got his own at-home laser that will go home with his adopter). He's no longer taking any pain meds and the vet is really impressed by his recovery. He could go home today with the right adopter who doesn't mind continuing to monitor him (with our support). Rocco is looking for a cautious adopter who will understand that he needs to take it easy going forward so he can keep a healthy back for the rest of his life. Using a ramp to get up and down from couches and beds is ideal and jumping down could aggravate his back. A single-level home and/or an adopter with a strong back is best since this little guy shouldn't be climbing stairs. Thankfully he only weighs 15 pounds! This pooch will need to eat a prescription diet for life to ensure his perianal fistulas don't return, so his adopters should keep this in mind as well. WCAL offers TONS of support to our adopters, so if you are on the fence, please email or give us a call to chat. 707-800-5058 or info@WineCountryAnimalLovers.org is a good way to reach our volunteers. We believe in full transparency, supporting our adopters and making great matches for the special dogs we rescue. Follow us on social media for daily updates! Story
Vayna is a fun active girl. She loves to play but has been on restricted activity for some many months because she arrived pregnant and having been hit by a car and having a badly broken leg and Pelvis. She had orthopedic surgery on October 22nd after she was finished nursing her puppies! She has had incredible veterinary care by the wonderful Dr. Scott Featherston who does beautiful work and goes to great lengths to save limbs and make them work again! Vayna is good with other dogs, cat friendly and would be great in a family setting with older kids. Right now she is just about ready to get on with life and learning about being the center of her new family's existence if she has her way. We are taking applications but people need to know she has some catching up to do - as far as living a normal life and certainly being in a suburban environment - she has been very much a county bumpkin and on minimal activity, she is crate trained but not necessarily fully housetrained. SHe is quite pent up and frustrated... so she'll be a bit of a project at first. But her adopters will be the lucky ones to see her rejoice at being able to run about on four legs and play chase and rough house - her favorite friend is her foster moms Golden Retriever - and she was also a great mom to her pups, and took on mothering others as well. She should get the green light for life with no physical restrictions very soon! Dr Featherston wants one more quick exray.... Vayna will be ready for her forever home the week of or after Christmas. She is a lucky girl and someone will be very lucky to have her join their family!

Story
Introducing the amazing, the magical, the one and only Roxy! Our beautiful senior poodle mix, Roxie is now officially ready for adoption. She would love to start 2025 in her FORVER home. Roxy is 10 years old and approximately 24 pounds of sweetness. Roxy is a social dog who likes everyone she meets. She is good with big and small dogs and BONUS, Roxy is a fan of cats. Roxy is excellent in the car. She enjoys joining her foster parents on road trips to Clearlake so if you like to travel, Roxy just might be the perfect co-pilot. Roxy loves to spend her winter days on a soft fuzzy blanket. She also enjoys time in the yard. You weed; she supervises. And leisurely walks around the neighborhood are a must.  Roxy is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She had a dental on 12/19/2024. No yucky dog breath there! Northern CA adoption only. Roxy is fostered in Neward, CA. Meet-and-greets will be at that location. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. To recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for ROXY is $300. If you want to adopt ROXY, please complete our online adoption application at https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/ . One of our volunteers will contact you. Adoptions are local, and confined to the SF Bay Area. See our other available dogs at  https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/available-dogs/ December 23, 2024, 12:05 pm
