All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $850   Limerick is a 1 year old Cockapoo who can’t wait to rhyme his way into your heart and never let you go! Limerick was rescued from the shelter with a few of his poetic poodle pals in need of some TLC and a groom! One of our amazing volunteers gave him a bath and a haircut and suddenly we were seeing a whole new dog! Limerick weighs 15 pounds and has a gorgeous non-shedding coat. He is an option for allergies and will require regular grooming to ensure he stays looking fabulous! If you’re ready to expand your horizons and start reading poetry, why not start with a Limerick? Limerick is an absolute sweetheart who would love to find a family ready to celebrate how amazing he is! He is a people dog who loves to cuddle, receive pets, and lounge by your side. He is also super playful and loves playing with his plush toys as he shows off his zoomies in the yard. Limerick is very curious and sniffs around the neighborhood on his daily walks, always finding the best spots to stop and smell the roses. He is very smart and food motivated and has already started learning sit, stay, come, and “watch me” with his foster mom. Limerick is the perfect blend of playful and laid back according to his foster mom. He loves his daily walks and zoomies but is also happy to lounge on the couch with you. Limerick would love to find a home where his human works from home or is home for a lot of the day as he loves being with his humans. He can’t wait to check out all the local nature spots with you as well! If you’re ready for the adventure of a lifetime, adopt Mr. Limerick!  Limerick wakes up at 8 AM and hangs out until he is ready for his morning stroll. He comes home for breakfast at 9 AM and then spends the rest of the morning playing with his toys, cuddling on an open lap, or napping on the couch. Around lunchtime, he enjoys a snack and then explores the backyard until he is ready for another nap. He has dinner at 6 PM before heading out on an evening walk. For the rest of the night, he snuggles and plays with his toys until he goes to bed around 11 PM.  Limerick lives with a resident 20 pound dog and they get along. He is curious about dogs he meets on walks. He loves meeting new humans and is always hoping they will slip him an extra treat (or three). Limerick walks well on a leash but would benefit from some additional training. He is house trained and crate trained. Interested homes should be prepared to discuss their plans for grooming and continued coat maintenance. Come and meet your rhyming pal today!  Limerick is an option for those who have owned a dog of their own in the past. Kids should be over the age of 7.January 26, 2025, 11:50 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $800Meet Haiku – The Sweetest Little Poet You’ll Ever Meet! At just 20 pounds, Haiku is the perfect compact companion, wrapped in a soft, non-shedding coat—ideal for allergy sufferers or anyone who loves a clean couch. This 3 to 4 year old sweetheart is the perfect mix of playful and affectionate, with a little bit of sass thrown in for fun. Whether she’s trotting along on a long walk, curling up next to you for a cozy nap, or standing guard by the window like a tiny but mighty protector, Haiku will keep you entertained and feeling loved. A Day in the Life of Haiku Haiku greets every morning with a gentle stretch and a wagging tail, ready to start her day. She sleeps soundly through the night in her cozy crate and wakes up around 6 AM, eager for her morning walk. Despite her petite size, she’s an athlete at heart—if you’re looking for a walking buddy, Haiku is your girl! She’d happily walk for miles, sniffing everything in her path and occasionally attempting to befriend (or chase) a squirrel. Mealtime is a casual affair for Haiku. She’s not one to gobble down food in seconds—she prefers to graze throughout the day, though she’ll never say no to a piece of chicken. While you work or relax, Haiku is content to be near you, either gazing out the window like the world’s cutest neighborhood watch or napping quietly by your feet. Zoom meetings? She’ll be there, offering her moral support (and the occasional vocal input if she feels left out). Evenings are for fun—Haiku loves to play! Her favorite pastime is playing with her beloved Chuckit! Ultra Ball, sometimes batting it around on her own, sometimes bringing it to you for a game. Soft squeaky toys? She adores them… and also excels at expertly performing squeaker removals (a true specialist in 'squeakerotomies'). After playtime, she winds down with another walk, a few cuddles, and then tucks herself into her crate, dreaming of tomorrow’s adventures. Personality: A Little Shy, A Lot of Love Haiku is the kind of dog who likes to take her time getting to know you, but once she does, she’ll be your most devoted friend. When she first arrived in her foster home, she was a bit hesitant—taking about half a day to fully warm up—but now she follows her people from room to room, always wanting to be close. If you give her the space and patience to trust you, she will reward you with endless affection, snuggles, and sweet, happy tail wags. She’s got a protective streak and takes her role as 'official household guardian' very seriously. Visitors will be announced with a bark that says, “Excuse me, who invited you?”—but give her a few minutes and a treat, and she’ll decide they’re her new best friend. Once she loves you, she LOVES you—leaning in for pets, curling up beside you, and showing her playful, goofy side. Haiku & Friends: Dogs, Cats, and Kids Haiku has done well with cats and could easily live with a dog-savvy feline friend. She can be a little bossy with other dogs, so a home where she’s the only pup (or with a tolerant, non-reactive dog) would be best. She hasn’t been around kids much, but given her playful and affectionate nature, she’d likely do well with older children or teens who understand that she needs a little time to warm up. The Perfect Home for Haiku Haiku is looking for an active, patient family—one that loves walks as much as she does and will give her the time she needs to build trust. A work-from-home household would be ideal since she enjoys being near her people. She’s fully housetrained and crate-trained, making her an easy and well-mannered addition to the right home. She’s fun, funny, and full of personality—ready to bring laughter and love into her forever home. If you’re looking for a devoted, playful, and smart little companion with just the right amount of sass, Haiku is waiting to meet you! Haiku is an option for a home that had had a dog previously. If there are kids they need to be over the age of 8.February 1, 2025, 1:36 am

Story
Murphy has been with our family since my kids were little. He is a good dog and low maintenance but he does need love and attention. Not a lot but he craves it and I feel bad I haven’t been able to give it to him. My husband passed away a month ago and it’s been very overwhelming with everything and caring for two small children. My attention needs to be on them and my healing. Murphy deserves to be loved more.

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $850   Meet Rhyme – The Snuggly, Bouncy, Love-Packed Bichon-Poo! Looking for a hypoallergenic pup with a non-shedding coat that’s perfect for allergy sufferers? How about one who’s equal parts playful, cuddly, and just a little bit mischievous? Well, meet Rhyme, a 1-2 year old, 14-pound ball of fluff and joy who’s ready to find her forever home!   A Day in the Life of Rhyme (AKA: Your Future Sidekick) Rhyme starts her day at 5:30 AM sharp—because why waste a perfectly good morning? She heads outside with her foster sibling, Raven, for a quick potty break, then fuels up with breakfast. After that, it’s time for some serious backyard play before settling into her daily routine of… well, being adorable and demanding attention.   During the day, she alternates between hanging out in the laundry room and backyard, playing a round (or ten) of fetch in the living room, and graciously allowing herself to be adored. Evenings are for more fetch, more toys, and finally some good old-fashioned snuggling on the couch. At bedtime, Rhyme prefers to sleep next to her human, because, let’s be honest, she’s the ultimate Velcro dog—but with a little time, she could learn to settle in a crate.   Personality – Affection Overload Incoming! From the moment Rhyme stepped paw into her foster home, she decided that she was the queen of attention. She loves people, loves pets, and loves giving kisses (so prepare for an enthusiastic face-washing at all times). She initially ignored the cat but has now decided that chasing the kitty is her new favorite hobby—though she’s easily redirected.   Her ideal day includes: Following you from room to room like a dedicated shadow Snuggling up as close as possible whenever you sit down Keeping an eye on all your activities (especially if food is involved) Playing fetch like an Olympic athlete   She’s also a bit of a comedian—she once jumped over the cat mid-fetch and once pushed Raven through the dog door when she was taking too long (efficiency is key!).   Social Skills – Fur-iendly, Fun, & Full of Love Rhyme gets along great with other dogs, but let’s be real—her true love is YOU. While she likes hanging out with Raven, she’s not much of a cuddle buddy with other pups—her preferred cuddle target is you, always you.   She’s been gentle with kids (ages 11+) and would likely do well with younger ones, as long as they’re ready for a little training on boundaries (she’s a jumper, but we’re working on it!).   Training – A Work in Progress, But a Fast Learner! Housetrained? Yes! Uses the dog door like a pro. Crate trained? Meh… She can stay in a crate but might cry a little (or a lot). Leash walking? Getting there! She pulls a bit and has a talent for circling around your legs (fancy footwork required). Chewing? Oh yes, she’s got skills. If she can reach it, she’ll probably taste-test it (RIP to one unfortunate camera cord). Barking? Only when someone’s at the door—she takes her job as official home security officer very seriously.   The Perfect Home for Rhyme A home where she can be the center of attention (seriously, she loves being spoiled). A family that will play with her and snuggle her every single day (this is a requirement). Patience and consistency for training—she’s a smart girl who wants to please! Another dog is fine, but she really just wants her human’s love the most.   Why You Need Rhyme in Your Life She’s sweet, sassy, playful, cuddly, and full of love—with just the right touch of mischief to keep you entertained. Whether she’s pushing her dog friend through a door, jumping over the cat in a game of fetch, or curled up against you watching TV, Rhyme is guaranteed to bring laughter, warmth, and endless love to her forever home.   Are you ready for your new best friend? Rhyme is waiting to steal your heart!    Rhyme is an option for a home that has had a dog previously. If there are children they need to be at least over the age of 5 and knock over proof.                January 29, 2025, 2:39 am
