Simba was surrendered to us the day after Christmas. His owners had kept him in their yard and as the kids grew older they paid less and less attention to him. Shelter Hope took him to the groomers and gave him quite the makeover! The neglect Simba endured physically and emotionally has definitely taken a toll on him. We have noticed that he tends to people guard and lash out when he feels cornered. Simba would do best in a home who would be willing to work with him to correct his behavioral issues and give him plenty of exercise. Be ready to adopt. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. Chloe is a 6 year old, 18 lb, poodle mix. She is a sweetheart and playful dog with a lot of personality. Loves walks and playing fetch but is otherwise a homebody that enjoys naps and snuggling up on the couch. Chloe is an extremely nervous and anxious dog. She gets nervous with many daily tasks, even ones she has had years of exposure to. Her anxiety around new people and situations causes her to be defensive and nip or nervously pee. She has had situations in the past where she has attempted to nip at the groomers or visitors at home. She needs time to warm up to new people and environments. She loves her inner circle and is wonderful with those she is extremely close and comfortable with. She is usually fine with other small dogs, but gets nervous around large dogs. She does not shed but needs grooming every 6-8 weeks. No major health issues and up to date on all vaccines and shots.

Meet Jio! He is soo precious! He is a 5 year old that was rescued from a breeding farm before heading to a dog meat farm in South Korea. We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable. Many of these dogs start off in horrific puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth. If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away. Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat. Many restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South Korea, and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men. Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions. The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade. Jio and some of his friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life. These are miracle dogs that they are alive today. Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs.
