Meet Jio! He is soo precious! He is a 5 year old that was rescued from a breeding farm before heading to a dog meat farm in South Korea. We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable. Many of these dogs start off in horrific puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth. If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away. Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat. Many restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South Korea, and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men. Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions. The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade. Jio and some of his friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life. These are miracle dogs that they are alive today. Simba was surrendered to us the day after Christmas. His owners had kept him in their yard and as the kids grew older they paid less and less attention to him. Shelter Hope took him to the groomers and gave him quite the makeover! The neglect Simba endured physically and emotionally has definitely taken a toll on him. We have noticed that he tends to people guard and lash out when he feels cornered. Simba would do best in a home who would be willing to work with him to correct his behavioral issues and give him plenty of exercise. Be ready to adopt. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. This beautiful girl is Cici. Isn't she stunning? Cici is an approximately 5/6 yr old, female, Poodle/Maltese mix that is about 16lbs of pure sweetness! Cici came to us when she was found dumped and abandoned on the streets in bad condition...flea infested, emaciated, and a broken leg. We got her the medical attention she needed including a surgery to repair her leg and now she is one happy, healthy, and grateful little pup! Cici is a dog that would love having another sweet and playful dog in the home or she could be your one and only if she has owners that are home most of the day and will give her the love and attention she craves. A home with a safe/secure backyard would be ideal as she loves hanging out with you in the warm sun. Cici is excellent in the car and loves to sit right by your side during the whole ride. She is scared on leash and will need a patient owner who will work with her with baby steps or she is also just perfectly happy trotting around in the backyard. A home that will allow her on furniture and dote on her like she deserves is exactly what she needs. Sweet Cici is such an amazing dog that we know that perfect forever home is out there for her! WILLIAM-URGENT-Help Needed! WILLIAM is a lovely 7-8 year old affectionate, bright, friendly Poodle pup who has suffered neglect. He needs plenty of TLC.....and a loving home. We are also fundraising for the veterinary visit follow-up for diagnostics, surgery, dental work, and neuter. If you cannot adopt or foster, we hope you might want to offer donation support and be WILLIAM'S guardian. WILLIAM has already received grooming (see photos), bathing, vaccinations, and a general checkup by the shelter vet to assess what his needs are. He was dumped on the streets of Los Angeles when he was not wanted anymore. Once we have raised the funds for WILLIAM'S vet visit and any care he needs, he will be in better shape--and ready for a new home. We are a very small non-profit and usually in debt for veterinary bills for all of the seniors and special needs pups we rescue from the pound and the streets.
