Story
Hi there! Im the sweet, smart, and sometimes sassy Jack! I am waiting to find a patient, loving family to call my very own. Phew! Ive been waiting for my chance at adoption since the beginning of 2021, when Animal Aid first brought me into their foster program from Multnomah County Animal Services. Shortly after I was brought into foster care, I started displaying some interesting behavioral challenges. We soon discovered that I had low-grade mast cell cancer. Once we had some growths removed and began treating my other symptoms, I started to become a much happier pup! With the help of my very kind and patient fosters, I have been able to learn so much to set me up for success in a furever home. While I can have some challenging moments, I am a very smart pup that will do just about anything for a yummy treat. I am hoping to find a family that is just as patient with me as my fosters have been, so that I can continue growing my trust in humans and live a comfortable, confident, and happy life! Due to my occasional behavioral challenges, I am not the best fit for a lot of younger children; however, I have learned to adore snuggling up with my fosters young niece who is very sweet, a great listener, and especially respectful to me. Likes: I absolutely love treats! Even if I get in one of my grumpy moods, I am pretty easy to win over with a yummy snack. I am an incredibly food-motivated pup, which helps tremendously when it comes to learning new tricks or behaviors. I could learn just about anything! I also love to play fetch and tug with my favorite toys, cuddling up with my favorite people, and running around with doggy friends. I really love to be warm: Since its started to get cold, my favorite thing is sleeping in front of a radiant heat lamp. I love it so much my fosters sometimes have trouble keeping me away from the cozy heat. I cant wait until its summertime again so I can enjoy some more sunbathing. I also LOVE the beach! I discovered sand just this year, and I can run very fast on it! I prefer calmer dogs that are respectful of my space and dont steal my favorite toys. Dislikes: I have handling sensitivities! I can get pretty spicy if I am being touched in certain areas of my body, but it can also really just depend on the day or situation. I am not a fan of being left alone and would prefer to be with you at all times. I really dont like being cold or wet. Id rather not go out in the rain. Although my fosters have introduced me to coats, I dont seem to enjoy them. I also have gotten into some feisty situations getting tangled in a few harnesses, so my fosters have done a great job working with me on a harness that requires minimal handling. Its possible this coat and harness sensitivity may be a result of some discomfort they bring because of my medical condition, which you can read more about below. My least favorite thing in the whole world is being touched or bothered when I am curled up under the covers! Its best to call me to come out of my cozy blanket burrow, rather than attempt pulling me out yourself. Medical: I have a history of mast cell cancer growths, which can reoccur. According to our vets, there is a low risk of these growths complicating my quality of life, as they can be removed if they come back. The growths can cause me to be quite itchy at times, so I take some medicine to help with that (the itchies might also be why I dont like harnesses or coats very much). We were told that there is a low risk of these growths spreading to my liver or spleen. I am currently taking a few different medications to help manage my behavioral and medical needs and I am pretty good at taking my pills, especially if accompanied with a delicious treat!Helping Hands Grants: Due to Jacks medical and behavioral needs, Animal Aid is offering a $500 annual grant to assist in the costs of his ongoing medical care. Additionally, we are offering a one-time $500 grant to work with the Certified Veterinary Behaviorist and Certified Trainers at Synergy Behavior Solutions to set him and his furever family up for lasting success. Approx. Date of Birth: 7/1/2015 Weight: 18 lbs

Story
Arlo is a four-year-old mini pin x or mix maybe. He’s neutered, chipped and current on all vaccines. According to the owners that could tell that Arlo had been treated poorly. He was leery of the husband and spent a lot of time in his crate (which is his safe place and must be respected). He’s afraid of brooms and may have been hit with one. In the eight weeks they have had Arlo he has become relaxed, playful, loves the husband now. He is obedient and wants to please.Arlo has some resource guarding issues. They feed their dogs separately. If he gets a chew treat he will take it to his crate. Again, his safe space that needs to be respected. Arlo is good with older kids but doesn’t tolerate being poked, teased, pulled on or being around loud and erratic behaviors . He may have some skin allergies. He scratches a lot. Owners say that Arlo would excel in a home where he is part o& the family. He loves to travel and is easy to travel with. He likes to be outdoors with his people whenever possible. Hiking, trips to the beach, etc. He will thrive in the proper environment. If you think you may be that environment, please fill out an application at sccpets.com (at no cost or obligation to you). His adoption donation is $200.July 3, 2024, 9:58 pm
