Story

Pacer, a black and tan Miniature Pinscher, about 4.5 years old on 5/19/24, was rescued 2 years ago. He was morbidly obese and appeared to be in a catatonic state when we got him. He was so terrified that he completely shut down and moved so little that we were concerned that he wasn’t even breathing. We took him to the vet to bring him up to date on vaccinations, but decided to wait until he was less terrified before we put him through the trauma of being neutered. He was neutered and vaccinations updated on 5/31/24. Pacer, unfortunately, tested positive for heartworms and is on the slow kill, doxycycline protocol. Pacer will do best in a quiet home with an experienced dog owner. Due to his fearfulness, he will not be considered for homes with young children. Pacer is located in Arkansas. He currently weighs about 15 pounds. His adoption donation is $465 which includes the $165 transport fee. If you would like to give Pacer the loving home he deserves and help him develop into the confident little guy he can become, please complete the first step in the adoption process by filling out an online adoption application. Felix is an approximately 2 &1/2 year-old male min-pin who comes to PAWS from a CT animal control where he was picked up as stray. Felix is a friendly little guy who enjoys meeting new people and is good around other dogs. Felix can be a bit of a resource guarder and requires an adopter who will be a confident leader with him and continue with his crate training. As long as Felix's food and toys are confined to his crate and he is not allowed up on the couch, he does amazingly well. Felix was adopted earlier this year and did wonderfully with his new mom. He was just settling in and fully letting his guard down when she suddenly uprooted him and moved into a new shared residence. This raised his anxiety levels and resulted in a bite when a man he had never met invaded his space. His owner then panicked and abandoned him at a local animal control. Despite this sad turn of events, Felix was happy to greet all of his old friends at PAWS. He loves going on walks with all of our volunteers and playing in the yard. His training at his prior home has actually helped him immensely as we have not seen much resource guarding since we took him back. Although he plays well with other dogs, due to his resource guarding, a household without another dog or cat would probably be best for him. We believe that he would also do best in a single person household so that he does not develop any guarding behavior of one person over the other. Felix is microchipped, neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.

Stilts has met both dogs and children that he has been great with. He loves long walks plus backyard play time. His ideal family will exercise him actively and take him on all of their adventures! He is potty trained, and working on perfecting his leash walking skills. When Stilts is not exploring the neighborhood, he spends his time cuddling on the sofa snuggled up in a blankie. This adorable girl is Rhonda. She is one-year-old and weighs 30 lb. We think Rhonda is a miniature pinscher mix. Rhonda started off being pretty shy at the shelter, but as each day passes, she's coming more and more out of her shell. This sweet pup does have a fear of loud noises, but she's learning that it's not so scary. Once outside, Rhonda is playful and curious. Our trainer thinks once this girl gets into a home, she will really start to thrive. The ideal home for her is one where she can get plenty of playtime and attention. She would do great with children of all ages and would love to have a doggie friend to play with. We don't know what Rhonda thinks of cats, but we can "cat-test" her if needed. Rhonda is microchipped, vaccinated and healthy. She will be spayed before adoption. Her adoption fee is $395.
