You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Nissa is a sweet and affectionate girl who absolutely adores her humans. She warms up quickly to people and is happiest when she’s by your side, or in her favorite spot—her crate. While she’s friendly with other dogs outside of her crate, she does get a bit territorial when they get too close to her space. Ideally, her crate should be put away if there are other dogs in the home, or covered up, as that helps her relax. This independent girl knows how to use the doggie door and enjoys her routine. After going outside in the morning, she’ll happily return to her crate, and even though she’s not the most playful with other dogs, she gets along just fine with them as long as they respect her personal space. Nina would be perfectly happy as an only dog, so she can get all the attention. Nissa was found as a stray but was in good shape and just needed a little love. She hasn’t been around kids, but as long as they respect her space, she’d likely do great with them. Whether it’s a cozy apartment or a house with a yard, Nissa is ready to be the ultimate couch potato, curled up next to the humans she loves. Nissa is from Texas. One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.
