Story
Penny is a 5 year old maybe Min Pin/Chihuhua mix (or maybe just one or the other?) weighing about 9lbs.  Penny was brought to a shelter in Texas because she had a leg injury her owners couldn't/wouldn't pay for.  They surrendered her to the shelter, where they were able to diagnose her with a broken leg.  She was then transferred to a vet that operated on her leg, fixing the break.  She recovered in a wonderful foster home in Texas and then was transported here to find a forever family.  Here is what Penny's foster Momma has to say about her: "Penny is such an easy going, loving little dog.  She is going to make a wonderful addition to any family. She wants nothing more than to be near you even if its a bed next to your desk.  She will follow you everywhere, and nothing makes her happier than to sit in your lap - movie night is her favorite. She loves to snuggle with her humans in bed at night, and tends to get super excited when she first gets into bed cuz she knows cuddle time is coming!  She is totally fine around my bigger dogs and has started to play a little with my dog Charlie.  She is truly just friendly with everybody.  She sometimes coo's, especially when getting ready for bed, and will do little circle dances, which are adorable.  She has never messed in the house, but we do let her out pretty frequently.  She seems to be pretty smart!" This sweet senior girl has seamlessly adjusted to foster life after her beloved owner entered hospice care, and she’s proven herself to be an incredibly loving, easygoing companion. Jazz is happiest when she’s close to her person—whether that’s curled up beside you on the couch, perched on your chair while you work, or snuggled up in bed at night. She’s the definition of a loyal little shadow and will happily soak up all the affection you have to give, returning it tenfold. With her low energy level, Jazz is perfectly content with short, leisurely walks and lots of relaxation time. She does wonderfully on leash, making outings simple and enjoyable, and she gets along well with other dogs and even cats, though she doesn’t pay them much mind. She’s mostly house trained but may have an occasional accident if not taken out promptly, so a home with someone around more often than not would suit her best. Jazz does great when left alone for a few hours with other dogs and settles in as a calm and quiet presence in the home. Jazz is a gentle, affectionate “Mama’s girl” who loves being close and even enjoys being carried in a sling for extra snuggle time. She will thrive in a calm, adult home where she can fully relax and enjoy her golden years. She’s motivated by both food and love, responds well to a steady routine, and brings a peaceful, comforting energy wherever she goes. Jazz’s ideal home is one filled with warmth, companionship, and plenty of cozy moments together. If you’re looking to open your heart to a devoted senior who will love you endlessly, Jazz is ready to be your perfect companion. Check out more photos of Jazz here!   If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!  A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.  The adoption fee for this pet is $125. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.  Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking  here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls.   PLEASE NOTE:  The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter.  Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets.  Here is some interesting info on breed identification:  https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online.  We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting.  Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
