Story
Meet Dickens, a lively mixed breed with a zest for life! This adorable 15-lb. fur ball earned his name with his spirited antics: he's as cute as the dickens! Dickens can be playful and high energy and would thrive in a home with active adults and/or older children who can match his energy and enthusiasm. But don't worry; he knows how to hit the snooze button too. He'll happily curl up on your lap for a cozy nap or night's sleep. Speaking of laps, Dickens is selectively social with other dogs and can be a bit selfish about sharing his human’s affection with them. Being the only dog would be fine with him. Dickens definitely needs a securely fenced yard in which to exercise; life on a leash is not for him. And his independent (sometimes stubborn) nature means he doesn’t always come when called. We would like to place him in a quieter rural or suburban environment where he can be the king of his own backyard, rather than having to cope with city noises, traffic and crowds. If you're ready for a heaping helping of love, laughter, and cuddles, prepare to fall head over heels for this little bundle of joy. Dickens' adoption fee is $300. Story
Do long, low doggies make you smile? Meet Pretzel, a handsome 8-years-young male dachshund who is looking for his forever home. Well-mannered and house-trained, he can appear a bit aloof at first. But once he gets to know you, he’s a loyal companion who enjoys a gentle chin scratch and will happily curl up on the couch with you. Here are some things to know about this little guy: Demeanor. Pretzel is generally calm and quiet, but when it’s time to eat, he’s all barks, wiggles and tail wags. Food is definitely his love language!    Favorite activities. Pretzel enjoys a leisurely stroll on leash but is happiest when he is free to roam. He loves to sniff around and take in all the sights and sounds, so we will only place him with adopters who have a fenced yard. He also likes squeaky and stuffed toys (which he enjoys unstuffing) and snoozing on a comfy bed. Compability. Though he’s generally good with most dogs, Pretzel can be selectively social. If another dog has given him a hard time, he won’t forget it. (Anyone who has previously lived with a dachshund will know what we’re talking about.) On the other hand, he’s fine with cats because he was raised with a pack of Persians. Ideal home. Pretzel would thrive in a home with a mature individual or couple, with or without another dog. Older teens or grown children would be okay, but no youngsters, please. Also, a home with no or few stairs would be best because dachshunds are prone to back issues. For that same reason, it’s important that his adopters resist the temptation to overfeed him or constantly give him treats. An overweight dachshund is one that’s headed for major back problems. Right now, Pretzel weighs 11 lbs. and our vet says his body condition is “ideal.” Does Pretzel sound like a good fit for you? Email Save the Strays for our application.
