Story
What it's all about, Arfie? It is about love, gentle humans, a warm and cozy place to nap, 2 squares and snacks for this boy, who was abandoned at one time.
Arfie is a sweet and adorable 7.3 pound 3 year old Miniature Dachshund mix. He is so happy to feel safe and loved in rescue. Life has not been easy for this little man. Will you give him the life he so deserves?
He is fostered in Linn County, OR, about an hour from Sisters, Eugene, Corvallis, Salem. About 2 from Newport and Portland. We will meet partway for folks driving from afar.
Arfie is cuddly, enjoys being warm, napping in a lap or by the wood stove. He enjoys car rides, other dogs, food and squeaky toys. He does not have big exercise needs, though may enjoy the outdoors more in nice weather and once he is over being abandoned outdoors.
Like many of his Dachshund brethren, Arfie will bark at times. Mostly when hearing or seeing new things. A quieter neighborhood, using his yard, or the country area will suit him best.
Arfie is doing well on his house training, 85- 90%, depending mostly on his humans' taking him out and rewarding output with a treat..
Arfie has had a ruff life. He was removed from his mom and littermates very young. He was muzzled often and with a muzzle that caused a scar, in one home. We suspect that he had to defend himself from rough touch in his past. He was abandoned by one set of owners and was found starving in a field. He has a permanent scar from an ill fitting muzzle. Despite all of this, he is the sweetest guy and has started to give kisses and count on humans being kind and gentle.
He is neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated and de-wormed. His adoption fee is $400.
Given Arfie's past, we think it best if he has an adult only family. Dog savvy and gentle teens are fine. Arfie met a cat in a room and barked a bit but was not prey driven, but we do not know if he would live with a cat well.
A great home and must haves for this boy include:
1. An owned home with a securely fenced yard.
2. Folks ideally not gone long hours.
3. Dachshund and rescue experienced adopters.
4. People who will include Arfie in their fun activities and who want to show him how much fun life can be.
