Story
Hi! My name is Dixie and I am from Oklahoma. From her foster: Dixie joined us from Oklahoma. Dixie doesn't seem to mind the cold as long as she has donned one of her stylish coats. Dixie loves nothing more than a good snuggle session on the couch or cuddling up in bed. She is house trained and hasn’t had potty accidents in the home at all. Dixie overall is a quiet girl who just wants love; she gets along with other dogs, but she doesn’t pick up on other dogs social cues when they tell her she’s being a little too invasive. She is slowly learning independence and confidence. She just wants to be touching her human(s) at all times, and isn’t deterred in the least by another dog in her way. Dixie would be great as an only dog, or with another passive dog. Dixie also loves her meals; she is learning “sit”, “place”, and “stay” to help with her manners. She may try to mooch from other dog's bowls at meal time, but when shown first which bowl is hers, she does a darn good job of being polite. She enjoys walks and loves to take in the scents along the path. She will make a wonderful companion. She’s not been assessed with cats; she does seem like she would be good with children of just about any age. Dixie’s Cushing Disease does mean she takes meds currently every 12 hours, and she needs bathing 2x per week while her skin heals. Her disease is a rest-of-life concern, and she will need more frequent vet visits to monitor her disease. From the vet team: Dixie has Cushings Disease which is a condition that produces too much of certain hormones. My future adopters should be aware of what the condition entails and know this will require medication and monitoring with a primary veterinarian. Currently, it is recommended that I receive bloodwork every 3-6 months to monitor this. My medication is approximately $160 a month but this would depend on which pharmacy. It was also discovered that I have mammary masses. I have an upcoming surgery to remove these masses. I will be available to go to my forever home after the biopsy results return. Future mass development is something that should be monitored with a primary veterinarian.
