Story
Kira was born on January 27, 2024 and is already 85 pounds. She is a Caucasian Shepherd, she will most likely weigh over a 100 pounds full grown.  She is a sweet girl who has been bounced around because no one knew she was special needs.  Kira is showing typical behavior for her breed.  She will alert when people are coming. Takes her time to approach them. She can be affectionate and playful.  Kira is housebroken and just loves her crate.  While Kira was at a Board/Train facility, she received E-collar training. Kira loves playing with her rope toys outside.  Kira has Mega-E, this means that when she eats, she needs to be sitting up, the foster has ordered a special chair for her, its called a Bailey's Chair.  Kira will learn to get in and out of the chair, eat sitting up and will have to remain upright for 10 to 15 minutes.  Kira will need meds for the rest of her life, which are very inexpensive.  The medication will help the food move down her esophagus and into her stomach.  A dog with Mega-E can run and play and be just as active as a dog without.      Kira is a courtesy post.  If you would like more information or are interested in adopting,  please message us and we will put you in touch with her foster.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 16, 2024, 10:04 pm

Story
https://foha.org/pet/queen2023/ All hail me, Queen! My name is Queen, and I am a beautiful, super-sized pup with something of a regal flair. Being outdoors is where I truly come alive, and I absolutely adore going for walks. In fact, I can never get enough of them! Walking on a leash is second nature to me, and I'm always up for an adventure. Hiking is one of my absolute favorite activities, and I make a fantastic companion on those long, winding trails. There's something about the woods and parks that captivates me, and I relish the opportunity to explore nature's wonders. Splashing my paws in the streams and taking in all the different scents is pure bliss. Oh, and let's not forget my special talent for rolling in the grass-I just can't resist! Traveling in the car is a breeze for me, and I'm always on my best behavior. During the ride, you might find me gazing out the window, observing the world passing by, or chewing on a delicious treat to otherwise occupy my time. Even after a lengthy walk, I still have energy to spare. Spending time in the play yard, chasing balls, and simply hanging out with my favorite people is my idea of a good time. Now, when it comes to training, I'm highly motivated by treats. However, I could use some patient and consistent guidance from an owner who is experienced and familiar with my breed. I'm incredibly smart and eager to learn, although I must admit, sometimes I like to believe I'm the one in charge. With the right approach, I know I can become an obedient and well-trained companion. Given my size and enthusiastic approach to life, I'd be more successful with a dog closer to my size. And I would need proper introductions to make sure we're a good match! Additionally, a household without children would be most suitable for me. I thrive in an environment where I can be the center of attention and receive the love and care I deserve. If you're looking for a majestic and spirited canine companion who will make your outdoor adventures even more memorable, then I'm your girl. Together, we can conquer the world, one walk at a time. To make an appointment to meet me, please fill out an application (no obligation). Thanks for looking and hope to see you soon!

Story
Name: Shaq Sex: Male Estimated Age: About a year old Best Guess for Breed: Mixed Breed Mastiff Dog Weight: About 60 lbs Lives With: Dogs and adults (including kids). Housebroken? Shaq is housebroken. He is currently working on crate training (making great progress!) and learning his basic commands. Story: Shaq was rescued from a shelter locally in Washington, DC. Shaq is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. He knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with his humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Shaq is just looking for someone to be his new best furend and we know that he will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. As a puppy, Shaq will need an adopter who is committed to setting him up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising him both mentally and physically. He will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Shaq is really just the best, and we absolutely adore him. He is 100% the most cuddly dog we have fostered and is an absolute ham. He’s great with other dogs and all humans. He’s fully potty trained and only goes to the bathroom outside. He’s good on the leash, but can be a little mouthy when he plays (like a typical puppy) - we are working with him to correct this behavior and he’s responding really well to training. He has lived with kids and other dogs and does great. He’s a great, happy boy and will make a fabulous family dog or companion! The fee to adopt Shaq is $450. That covers the cost of all his vaccines, the collar he’s wearing, his transport to DC and his care in his foster home. He’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines and neutered. Shaq has been seen by a shelter vet and we are not aware of any health issues. If you think that Shaq might be your perfect match, apply today!November 3, 2024, 3:56 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Izzabella aka Izzy. HISTORY: One owner who did not provide basic medical care so Izzy lived many year with out of control skin issues, ear infections, UTI’s, etc. PERSONALITY: Izzy is a sweet, friendly girl that loves meeting new people and welcoming them into the house. She loves attention and affection and will lean in hard for pets and ear scratches. She tends to spend her days snoozing away but when she gets the zoomies she takes them seriously and this girl can move despite her age.  She lives peacefully with a 60lb male mixed breed but is reactive when seeing dogs out on a walk. Izzy is a bit fearful of fireworks and thunderstorms and will sometimes get spooked by loud noises. Izzy likes things to happen on her own personal timeline and can be stubborn when they don’t. She will test limits by whining and carrying on (dancing around, stomping her feet, wagging her tail furiously while staring at you) to try to get her way. She’s learning that those things don’t work in our house but it’s hard not to laugh at her antics. She’ll do it to the other dog in the house too when he’s laying in a bed that she wants. She usually gets her way with the dog.  FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Napping, soaking up love and attention, laying in the sun MEDICAL ISSUES: With vet care and a quality diet Izzy’s skin issues and ear infections have cleared up and she is no longer a big itchy mess. She did have a mammary tumor removed while being spayed. She is not currently on any medications. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Izzy enjoys hanging out with her people, so a family that spends a lot of time around the house/yard/garden would be great for her. Once integrated with another dog she is very polite and respectful but she definitely needs slow introductions to new dogs. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Important notes before applying. Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. We will not adopt giant breed dogs to renters. Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption. Homes with children should have a fenced yard. Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption.  Proof of any of the following exceptions is required: The intact dog is a working member of a law enforcement, or search and rescue/recovery team. The intact dog is registered under the auspices of the American Kennel Club and is actively being shown. A veterinarian has determined the sterilization procedure would harm the intact dog.  We believe in Force Free Training Methods and do not approve of methods or devices using pain or force to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior.  Homes with highly varnished steps must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. **We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit.
