Story
We hope you're okay with strangers stopping to compliment your dog because that's exactly what's going to happen when you and Montana are out and about. Honestly, I would bet she is going to become a local celebrity, so be prepared to get to know your neighbors. Montana will be happy to let people admire her good looks while you soak up the praise for how good she is on-leash. A big dog with impressive leash skills is eye-catching and for good reason. https://youtu.be/5WVha4_IaRw Montana is estimated to be between 3-4 years old and is likely a Mastiff mix but given she is a rescue we cannot guarantee breed or age with 100% certainty. Now the info I know you are looking for- she weighs 119 pounds! When you see her bounce around while she is playing, it almost seems unbelievable, but when she leans into you, you’ll feel it. One of my favorite things about Montana is what we call the “love-lean.” This is when a dog is walking with you and you stop, she will be close and lean herself into your legs. There isn’t force behind it, just connection and love. Almost like her version of a hug. Wait, another favorite thing about Montana- she is a dream car-rider! Sure, you may have to give her back-half a little boost if your vehicle is tall, but its worth it. Once she is in the car she is quiet, settles in quickly and can be seen either laying down looking out the back window or sneaking in a little nap. What a dream! We introduced Montana to a variety of dogs to get a feel for her play style and the type of dogs she enjoys most. From the initial on-leash greetings we could see she has a very playful side. Dogs can be intimidated by her size and she seems to understand that, gravitating to dogs similarly sized to her. With older, non-playful types she was happy to wander around in their company or lay in the grass together. When she can sense the playfulness in a dog, her greetings are polite but clearly include an invitation to play. The playbow is loud and clear and more than a few times we have seen a meeting lead to an immediate best-friend level play session. On more than a couple occasions someone has commented- “They just met!” Because it is that impressive. From a rough and tumble male to a tall, dobermanish female who likes to lead the play- she was a perfect fit. Montana’s leash skills are easily seen in her video but should not be breezed over here. She is a big girl that most would anticipate being difficult to manage on leash but that is not the case here. Montana walks close and stays responsive to her handler. A key part of this is her relationship with her person. This girl is driven by her heart and wants to know you and appreciate you before she fully opens her heart to you. Once she has that, you are in and her loyalty is yours. A good marker is her favorite 1-2 combo. If you have a treat in hand you are half-way to getting her to show you the combo- a slow sit followed by a gentle paw shake moment. It goes right for the heart and it means she likes you. An ideal home for Montana would be one with a yard, based on her size and her love of a nap in the sun. A playful but chill doggie friend, medium to large in size, would be amazing! The key to a love connection is a dog who likes to play in short bursts followed by long naps. This girl does not have the play-stamina to keep up with a non-stop playmate. Family girl or living the single life- either one is great by her. More important that who is there is what the vibe is. It wont surprise you that Montana would love a chill home, the busy/hustle/chaos is not for her. Older kids, teens basically, enjoy her energy and company and the feeling is mutual. Little ones find her “boring” as quoted from the mouth of a 4 year old. I’m sure Montana would have something to say in return, like “well, its my nap time.” Bully sticks and rope toys are definitely encouraged, she loves both! This is your chance at the lovable “beast” we all fell for in The Sandlot. Adopt Montana, girls like her truly do not come around often. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
