Story
If you like your dogs big, then we have one for you. Scoops came to Pet Friends from Animal Control after being picked up as a stray who was roaming town along with another dog.. After getting to know Scoops, it is huge mystery why anyone would abandon a dog this sweet. Despite her size, she is quite shy and skittish around people she has never met, but once she learns to trust you, Scoops is a love bug who craves human companionship. It also seems obvious that she has not been exposed to much of the world so she could use a patient owner who will slowly introduce her to new experiences in order to build Scoop's self-confidence. In the spirit of full disclosure, Scoops is likely a pure-bred or partial Mastiff, so drool should be expected! She seems good with other dogs, knows some basic commands and walks well on a leash. Come and meet Scoops - she will steal your heart in a big way. Apply online at www.petfriendsinc.com

Story
Hellooooo there! My name's Bruce, and I'd LOVE to be your new best friend! I'm a handsome mastiff mix, but no one told me how big I am. I my mind I'm a 5lb yorkie....the perfect size to sit on your lap and cuddle! I love people, and the more attention I get the better. Cuddling is my favorite hobby! I would do well in a home with other large dogs, but would prefer a home without little dogs. They yip too much and give me a headache. I've met some kids since coming to the shelter and have done great with them. I would like to find a home without cats though. More than anything I just want to be loved. I give everyone my sad eyes when they walk past my pen so that they'll come in and sit with me. I would love to cuddle up next to you on the couch and nap the day away! If you have room in your heart for a big boy like me please visit me at the shelter! I'm up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and I also have a microchip. The vet thinks I'm around 1.5 yrs old.

Story
Hello! I am Creature! Just a cute, wiggly, snorty Creature looking for a forever home. I am incredibly cute and cuddly, playful and sweet! I love sitting on your lap or playing with toys. Sometimes I can be a little shy meeting new people, but I warm up quickly and give kisses in no time. Come meet me today!Few can resist a puppy. These adorable, soft bundles of energy are similar to four-legged children with tails. And like children, puppies need a lot of time, care, love, and patience. A puppy will depend on you for frequent and regular feedings and walks, for guidance and training, and for much of your time and your love. Before you plunge into puppy parenthood, make sure to research! There are many rewards to caring for a puppy, but there are also many requirements. Puppy classes are highly recommended for socialization and a positive transition into your home. Puppies love to learn how to be the best dog for your family! If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Dogs are individuals and have personality conflicts, just like us. Play groups do not guarantee that territorial or resource guarding issues will not surface in the home. While play groups do help us get to know the dog`s better, once they are adopted their new environments and new relationships will influence their behavior in ways we cannot predict. The Adoption Fee Includes:- initial canine distemper combination vaccination- first worming or stool check- rabies vaccination (for animals over 3 months of age)- 24 Petwatch microchipping- flea treatment/preventative- spaying or neutering-heartworm testingAdoption fee: $185.00Per state law, ALL ADOPTERS must purchase a non-refundable 2024 dog license at time of adoption for any canine three months and older. The cost of the license is $9.20. (Senior Citizen or Person with Disability-$7.20)All dog adoptions come with free leash and collar.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Izzabella aka Izzy. HISTORY: One owner who did not provide basic medical care so Izzy lived many year with out of control skin issues, ear infections, UTI’s, etc. PERSONALITY: Izzy is a sweet, friendly girl that loves meeting new people and welcoming them into the house. She loves attention and affection and will lean in hard for pets and ear scratches. She tends to spend her days snoozing away but when she gets the zoomies she takes them seriously and this girl can move despite her age.  She lives peacefully with a 60lb male mixed breed but is reactive when seeing dogs out on a walk. Izzy is a bit fearful of fireworks and thunderstorms and will sometimes get spooked by loud noises. Izzy likes things to happen on her own personal timeline and can be stubborn when they don’t. She will test limits by whining and carrying on (dancing around, stomping her feet, wagging her tail furiously while staring at you) to try to get her way. She’s learning that those things don’t work in our house but it’s hard not to laugh at her antics. She’ll do it to the other dog in the house too when he’s laying in a bed that she wants. She usually gets her way with the dog.  FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Napping, soaking up love and attention, laying in the sun MEDICAL ISSUES: With vet care and a quality diet Izzy’s skin issues and ear infections have cleared up and she is no longer a big itchy mess. She did have a mammary tumor removed while being spayed. She is not currently on any medications. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Izzy enjoys hanging out with her people, so a family that spends a lot of time around the house/yard/garden would be great for her. Once integrated with another dog she is very polite and respectful but she definitely needs slow introductions to new dogs. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Important notes before applying. Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. We will not adopt giant breed dogs to renters. Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption. Homes with children should have a fenced yard. Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption.  Proof of any of the following exceptions is required: The intact dog is a working member of a law enforcement, or search and rescue/recovery team. The intact dog is registered under the auspices of the American Kennel Club and is actively being shown. A veterinarian has determined the sterilization procedure would harm the intact dog.  We believe in Force Free Training Methods and do not approve of methods or devices using pain or force to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior.  Homes with highly varnished steps must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. **We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit.
