Story
Handsome is a bouncy and energetic boy! He loves pets and affection from his people. He enjoys spending his time playing with all kinds of toys, running around in the yard, and playing rough. He will always take treats and is eager to learn new things. Due to his fear of new people, he can be reactive to strangers, but he has made great improvements during his time with us. He is working on his leash manners but overall walks nicely and likes to engage with us.

Story
Kodiak is the true definition of an adventure buddy! Do you enjoy hiking, running, biking, swimming or exploring? Kodiak is the perfect dog for you! In fact he is already and waiting at the door for you! He is an intelligent dog who is capable of learning extremely quickly. He already knows the commands sit, down, stay, come, and speak! Kodiak’s greatest strength is his loyalty; Up or down, good or bad, happy or sad it will be Kodiak and you against the world. What makes Kodiak special is that he has so much love to give. The exact reasons you are looking for a dog are the same reason Kodiak desperately wants his forever human. He will need a very active adult-only family to drain his energy in order to keep him happy. Kodiak is looking for an experienced and confident owner to continue working on his reactivity to dogs and new people. He will need a strong leader to slowly introduce him to new people using the methods he has been taught while at Dog Tales. Kodiak is not friendly with strangers, children or other animals. Therefore he will need to live in a house with a fully fenced backyard. Once he is comfortable with a person he will become very attached and a great listener. Kodiak is looking for his chance with someone special. Upon adoption, Dog Tales can provide training for Kodiak and you in order to set you up for success.

Story
COURTESY POST Beau is true to his breed and a big cuddle bug. He would happily sit on the couch with his head in your lap for hours. He loves a good long walk and does really well on a leash, even if he gets a little excited about squirrels. Beau will get excited for his humans to come home every time, whether gone for 5 hrs. or 5 mins, he is going to greet you at the door with a toy or a shoe in his mouth. If you want him to drop his toy, food is the biggest motivator with Beau; he will do just about anything for a treat. Beau loves a cuddly soft toy that he will baby and then eventually love too hard before it needs replacing. Sometimes Beau is not aware of how big he is and will lean his entire 130 lbs. of weight on your leg looking for affection. Beau has been exhibiting some prey drive with our smaller dog, squirrels, cats and other smaller animals he sees.  Beau is fine with strangers so far (adults) he will bark when people come to the door and exhibit some guarding behavior but that is very normal with this breed. Once we let him know that everything is okay, he is immediately all over anyone who will give him affection.  Name: Beau Breed: Cane Corso/Mastiff mix Weight: 130 pounds Gender: Male Spayed/neutered: Neutered Age: 5 years (DOB: Nov.24/18) Obtained From: Originally from an ad on Kijiji. Rehomed in July, however, he is not doing well with the other dog in the home. Reason for Intake: Beau is not doing well with the senior Jack Russell Terrier in the home. Up to Date with Vetting: Yes Good with dogs: Dog selective. Not recommended for a home with dogs under 50 pounds. Likely best as the only dog. Good with cats: Lived with 2 cats for his first year of life, however, he seems to be exhibiting prey drive in his current home. Good with kids: Not recommended for a home with children under 12 years of age. He has lived with babies, however, he has shown concern with the activity of a visiting 4 year old. Good with strangers: If a stranger comes to visit, he will bark. He will go up and sniff them and check them out and be friendly. Resource guarding issues: Not from people/dogs/cats. Ever bitten a human: No Ever bitten a dog: No Fears: Car rides. Described as needing time to adjust to new things. Housetrained: Yes. He toilets in the yard and on leash walks. Crate trained: Yes, but not used recently. Good in the car: No. Current family is not able to get him in the car and help overcoming this fear is ongoing. Bark when left alone: Currently someone is home most of the time but previously he was left alone about 9 hours/day and was quiet. Destructive: No. Energy Level: Medium Leash skills: Walks well on leash. Okay with physical handling/manipulations: He is comfortable being brushed and petted Known commands: Sit, lay down, come, high five Food on now: Kirkland kibble (red bag). 2 cups, 2x/day. Behavioural issues: Afraid of car rides. Takes time to adjust to new environments. Medical issues: None November 5, 2024, 10:56 am

Story
Meet Duke, this brindle stud is so much more than meets the eye. Landing in the county pound along with his sons and a few other dogs, these boys were headed for euthanasia when our partner just couldn't bear it, knowing how long they had sat waiting and having truly bonded with the local dog catcher and his wife. Despite his large size, Duke is a laid-back and ultra-friendly guy. He has stolen the hearts of many and quickly bonds with anyone who gives him attention and has shown a gentle and affectionate nature around children. Duke enjoys his time with kids, especially those aged 8 and up. Duke walks well on the leash, and with consistent practice, could become an expert. He loves to sniff and explore and has recently discovered a love for swimming in the pond! Duke would make an excellent companion for cottage trips or hiking adventures. Duke is a loyal and charming dog, eager to please. He would thrive in a family willing to invest time in his continued training and development. His laid-back nature and friendliness make him a great candidate for a family dog. Duke is a heartthrob waiting for his chance to shine in a loving home. He’s patient, deserving, and ready to give all his love to a family that will cherish him. If you’re looking for a loyal and loving companion, Duke is your guy.

Story
Freddy has a very interesting story! He was a local stray that was running for weeks. Many people tried to catch him but he was very scared. Eventually Freddy was secured and brought to a local Humane Society. He was extremely underweight and had very sore paws from running for so long. He was never claimed which means he was most likely dumped to fend for himself. Freddy was transferred to us because he needed further evaluation and training. In a short period of time, we have seen Freddy evolve. He is learning to walk on a leash. He is very smart and knows sit and paw already! Freddy is extremely food motivated. He is strong and working on his leash manners. Freddy has extreme fear with strangers, especially tall men. He is looking for a teen or older family that will work on building his confidence. Freddy requires slow introductions to new people, therefore he would do best in a house with not too many visitors. Freddy is being evaluated with dogs and seems to do well with female dogs and also some male dogs that are calm and social.
