**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Cooper. I’m about 5 years old and I currently weigh about 100 lbs. I was brought into the pound on October 8, 2024, after a complaint was made to the Pound on my previous owner. I was found living in a feces and urine laden crate. I was emaciated, weighing only 62 lbs. upon intake. I lived in a home with another dog. Unlike me, my friend Carmel was somewhat being fed and cared for. She was still neglected, but not on the same level as me. My owners had dog food. It was just outside of my crate where I couldn’t get to it. They claimed I had cancer and wouldn’t eat yet hadn’t taken me to the vet. They were trying to make excuses to cover up the fact that they were starving me. They were just bad dog owners. I ate and put on weight rapidly once I was here at the pound. The complainant also stated that my owners severely beat me on the rare occasions that I was out of my crate. It appears that I have truly not been shown kindness of any type before making my way into the pound. I have no confidence, and my spirit was broken. The pound thinks that if I can find an adult only home that can get me some professional training, I will really make someone a very good dog. I am sweet with the volunteers that I know and the staff, though sometimes I act a little backwards and shy away as if I’m afraid they’re going to start beating me. I loved my friend Carmel, but I haven’t shown the same affection towards other dogs since my intake, so at this time, I am looking for a home where I can be the only pet. I am not doing well mentally here at the shelter, and I need to find a new family as soon as possible. I know I’m just one out of the millions of dogs in shelters looking for a family that will love me, but the pound staff is truly hoping someone will be able to step in and help me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Story
Meet Brenna – Our Sweet Survivor and Cuddle Queen Brenna is a 1½-year-old female Boerboel with a heart as big as her paws. When she first arrived, she was heartbreakingly emaciated—only 77 pounds—after being starved by her former family. But with love, care, and plenty of good food, this beautiful girl now weighs a healthy 119 pounds and has a clean bill of health! Despite everything she's been through, Brenna is one of the most loving souls you’ll ever meet. She's a total cuddle bug who adores people, melts into affection, and brings so much joy to every space she’s in. Her gentle, affectionate nature makes her amazing with children, and she gets along great with other dogs. Brenna can be a little shy around men who approach her too quickly—understandable, given her past—but give her a calm introduction, and she’ll be your best friend in no time. She sleeps in bed with her people, loves being part of the family, and lives every day with quiet strength and grace. And that little tongue that hangs out? It's the result of a neurological condition that four different vets have evaluated. The verdict is unanimous: it’s harmless, can’t be treated, and it doesn’t bother her one bit. She eats like a champ and lives life to the fullest. Brenna is truly a gentle giant with the sweetest soul. She’s not just a dog—she’s a survivor, a snuggler, and a symbol of resilience and love.
