Story
Sunny is a 5-month-old German Shepherd/Mastiff mix who lives up to his name with a bright spirit, a resilient heart, and a whole lot of puppy charm. He may have had a rough start in life, but this sweet, goofy boy is ready to bring light and love to a home that’s just as special as he is. Sunny was born into a large litter and, like many young pups, spent his early weeks suckling and snuggling with his siblings. Unfortunately, this led to chronic urinary tract infections and the formation of bladder stones, which caused a serious urethral obstruction. He underwent emergency surgery to remove the stones and received targeted antibiotics after urine cultures were performed. Sunny has recovered beautifully and hasn’t experienced any postoperative issues. However, there is a chance that urinary issues could recur, and his adopter must be prepared for the possibility of further diagnostics or treatment in the future.But here’s what’s just as important to know: Sunny is more than his medical history. He`s a puppy with big paws, a big personality, and an even bigger appetite—for snacks, fun, and life! This silly, sweet, and social boy is growing fast and learning quickly, thanks to being incredibly food motivated (seriously, you’ve never seen a dog so excited for a strawberry). Sunny is housebroken and working hard on his basic commands and recall. He’s still perfecting his leash manners—he pulls a little in his excitement—but he’s making great progress. He loves playing with toys that squeak, tossing around a ball, and splashing in his puppy pool. With summer coming, he’s officially declared himself a water pup. He’s dog social and adored both his littermates and his large foster dog sister, so we’d love to see him in a home with another medium or large dog to show him the ropes and help burn off some of that happy puppy energy.
