Story
Lucy is another one of our longest residents who was part of an ongoing cruelty case. Before coming to the shelter, she was malnourished and living in very troublesome conditions. Her negative experiences have not stopped her from being a loving, sweet girl. She always greets you at her kennel with tons of excitement. She looks forward to getting her daily walks, treats, and head scratches from all of the staff and volunteers. She is a very laid back girl, and would just appreciate spending time with you. We think that she is a mastiff mix and is around 4-5 years old. She is spayed, up to date on her flea and heart worm prevention, and has been given a distemper vaccine. She has been dewormed, microchipped, and is also potty trained. She has done great with people, but would be most comfortable in a single pet home.

Story
Hi my name is Boston! I am sensitive soul who would love to meet you, though you`ll have to go at my pace first. I have a history of shyness and being cautious with people, but I am already showing that I have the ability to gain confidence and show my endearing personality! Sometimes, patience and gentle understanding is all a guy like me needs to become the big puppy I`m meant to be.Boston has heartworm which means that this dog has parasitic worms in the right ventricle of the heart and nearby blood vessels. Heartworm is transmitted from one dog to another by mosquitoes and can be easily prevented using monthly heartworm preventative, but once the disease is contracted the treatment process can be quite intensive. Boston will need to remain sedentary with minimal activity during the treatment process to ensure a healthy recovery. The heartworm injections for treatment are covered by HSHV, but there may be additional costs associated with clinical care. There is additional information on heartworm disease and treatment available at our Adoption Desk.

Story
Name: Bella Breed Guess: Mastiff Mix Age: 9 years old Gender: Spayed Female Weight: 76 pounds Shelter Temperament: Calm and Sweet Children: Yes Cats: Yes Dogs: Meet and Greet Required Adoption fee: $125 Likes: Pushing up to people for pets and hugs, taking naps, belly rubs, and giving kisses! The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
