Story
Resilient Rufus is looking for his forever family, and wants his new people to know these 10 things about him:
1) I am a Boerboel and I am about 3 years old.
2) When I landed at animal control outside of Atlanta, I was in really bad shape. I was missing most of my hair and my skin was extremely inflamed and infected. I sat at the shelter waiting for someone to save me, but nobody came, and eventually I was put on the list to be euthanized. My story would have ended there had somebody not contacted the Bullpen, who swooped in immediately and took me to safety!
3) Since coming to rescue, I have been getting all the care and medical attention that I so desperately needed and am getting better every day. However, given the severity of my conditions, I will need to continue my treatment, including both medicine and therapeutic baths, with my forever family.
4) I think I would do well in a home with children over 8, as long as they weren’t too loud or rambunctious and had some previous experience/training with big dogs.
5) I’ve recently become best friends with another Bullpen resident named Lindy, and we are currently co-habitating. If my new family has a large female dog for me to hang out with, I’m confident we would get along great!
6) I haven’t had any interaction with small or medium sized dogs since coming to the Bullpen, but I’m pretty sure I could live in a home with any pup that weighed more than 30lbs.
7) There are a few barn cats that hang around the sanctuary and I don’t seem to mind them too much. I might be able to live in a feline-friendly home, as long as we were allowed to meet very slowly and always under supervision.
8) The words that best describe me are affectionate, lazy, and gentle. My favorite things to do are getting attention from humans, sunbathing on my porch, getting baths, and lounging around with my pal Lindy.
9) I am housebroken and crate-trained, and I am good on a leash. I know basic obedience and I’ve already mastered the dog door!
10) I am fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. Unfortunately, I am heartworm positive, but I have started treatment, and will come with all the medicine needed to complete it at my new home.

Our dogs are available for adoption nationwide but preference is given to adopters willing to do an in-person meeting. Please understand that our dogs are not adopted on a first-come, first-served basis, but rather we strive for a "perfect placement" so we know that they will not be failed again.
