Story
Meet Hugo, a 4-year-old male Mastiff and Pitbull Terrier mix with a rich brown coat. Hugo is a big boy with a heart just as large, overflowing with affection. He’s a gentle giant who walks beautifully on a leash but may pause mid-walk just to lean into your leg for some cuddles. His loving nature and calm demeanor make him the perfect companion for anyone looking for a loyal friend who enjoys both leisurely strolls and cozy cuddle sessions. Hugo is ready to bring his gentle, affectionate spirit into a forever home. All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months).    All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Story
Meet Nicky! Nicky is a stunning 2-year-old black and white Mastiff with a calm and gentle demeanor. Weighing in at 99 pounds, she’s a big girl with an even bigger heart! This laid-back lady is incredibly easy to handle and gets a perfect score on her “lean”—she loves leaning in for affection. Nicky also seems to know 'sit' and 'shake,' though it takes her a moment to remember her commands, which only adds to her charm. She’s well-mannered, easy to walk, and leash gentle, making her a joy to spend time with. Nicky has been at the shelter since December 4th and is ready to find her forever home ASAP! If you’re looking for a mellow, loving companion, Nicky is the one for you. Come meet her today at Yolo County Animal Services, or learn more about her and our other adoptable pets at yoloshelter.org. Let’s help Nicky find the loving home she deserves! Story
This loving girl is a true comeback kid. These days she is happy and making big progress. Licorice is learning that most people have treats and she's slowly letting her guard down around strangers. It really helps her to spend time around other dogs. Licorice loves every dog she meets, especially the ones who like to play with her and aren't afraid of her size. Deep down, she's still a puppy. We're looking for a loving home who will support her and help her feel safe so she can relax and enjoy the good life. Licorice found herself on a euthanasia list at the crowded Contra Costa shelter in the East Bay. None of the staff could touch her and she cowered in the back corner of her kennel. A rescue group we hadn't heard of pulled her and sent her straight to an adopter who was not prepared for a terrified, shut down, giant dog who was a flight risk. Licorice was so scared. She escaped from her adopter's fenced yard in Calistoga after being there less than three hours. Licorice was in an unfamiliar area and had no one she could trust. Since this happened in our area, WCAL was asked to help catch her safely before she was hit by a car or caused an accident crossing a very busy road. It took 72 days and a lot of chicken and patience since no one could get within 20 feet of this big, smart dog. Licorice was caught in a specialized trap and now she is safe. Her adopter asked us to find her a great home and that's our goal. We had her spayed and she got a clean bill of health from our veterinarian. We were surprised to learn that Licorice is just a baby at perhaps one-year-old. Now Licorice is in a foster home with a local reward-based trainer who is helping her get a fresh start. They are working on all the basics like potty training, crate training, walking on leash, taking treats from strangers, and making new friends. Licorice is really enjoying the company of other dogs and spends tons of time in doggy playgroups each day. She trusts dogs more than humans, but we're making progress. She LOVES rotisserie chicken! Licorice likes dogs of all sizes but isn't always aware of her size or how intimidating she can be to smaller dogs. Her ideal adopter has another well-socialized, confident dog, a calm home without many regular visitors, and is committed to force-free animal handling. She is going to bond closely with her next human and be an amazing companion. At only one year old, she's very much a silly puppy who likes stealing shoes, playing with toys and deserves an understanding and patient person who is ready for a long term commitment. We don't want this special girl to ever find herself scared at the back of a lonely kennel or running loose on the streets again! Follow us on social media for daily updates! Story
My Adoption Fee is Waived!Looking for a well-mannered, affectionate large dog to share life`s adventures?  Look no further! Sparkle is a doll!  She loves exploring new places, walks easily on a leash, and rides quietly in the car.  She recently returned to the shelter after being in a foster home since mid-September where she was well-mannered and relaxed and liked being near her `person` while working or watching a movie.  She wiggles with joy when she sees her person, is affectionate and enjoys petting and belly rubs.  When Sparkle hits the yard, she runs enthusiastic zoomies in wide circle.  Sparkle has been friendly with all the like-minded dogs on neighborhood walks and in play groups at the shelter, so we believe she might like a canine friend in her new home.  There were cats in her foster home which she saw but choose to ignore. Sparkle is initially shy around new people, so there is an adjustment period to build trust with her.  Once she gets to know and trust you, she becomes your new best friend!  If you are looking for an attentive, quiet, well-mannered large dog to share life`s adventures, please consider Sparkle.  For more information or to arrange a meeting, please come to the shelter or you may contact her foster at carole_gates@hotmail.comSparkle has participated in shelter playgroups and may enjoy a compatible canine friend in her new home.  She has blossomed into a silly, playful pup and has played with a number of dogs from a miniature poodle to large husky.  Looking for a buddy for your dog?  Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we`re a match!  Check out her playgroup video here:To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. Story
Eloise recently met a social dog at our shelter.  She really wanted to play, but she also got overstimulated easily.  Perhaps she could live with a solid dog with slow introductions, or she might be happier as an only dog.
