Story
Jade started out in a loving home, where she was valued for the princess that she is. Unfortunately, her owner passed, and her subsequent owner was unable to keep her. She wound up in a boarding facility and was never reclaimed. All this time, she has been searching for love again. Now it's her time. Despite everything, she is spunky and very sweet. She is adorable, although a little on the thin side. We have been working on helping her bulk up to proper winter weight. She does great with other dogs and is indifferent to cats. She loves humans of all types. Jade is the perfect houseguest. She is housetrained and sleeps through the night. She walks nicely on the leash and enjoys a good car ride. Other than needing some daily arthritis medicine, she is actually in very good shape. She can see and hear just fine, walk up and down stairs, and is content to sit on the couch or on the back of a chair and keep her humans company all day. Her ideal home has people who are home with her most of the time and enjoy snuggling. She'd love to have a fenced yard to do her wandering and sniffing. She's happy to share her humans with other dogs and cats, although she is hoping for a household that is overall on the calmer side. She enjoys napping in the sun, sitting on your lap, and munching on occasional treats. She’s a very easy-going low maintenance girl who just wants to be near you. Jade has big expressive brown eyes that seem to say “am I being a good girl” and “please love me.” Will you do that for her? Jade is approx 10 years old and 8 lbs. fostered in Woodbridge, VA please apply at mirishaven.org

Story
Meet Clyde. The sweet senior was surrendered with his brother, Charlie, to our rescue by the only family they’ve ever known. While these two boys technically had a home, they were kept in the basement and did not have the care or engagement they deserved. Both dogs came into the rescue in dire need of dental work, both living with pain and infection. Clyde also had a heart murmur that needed medication. Both pups have been fully vetted, had dental work, and been groomed, and they’re getting lots of love and attention and flourishing in wonderful foster homes. These pups are exceptionally sweet, easygoing seniors who do well with cats, dogs, and all people. NOTE: Charlie and Clyde are not bonded, but they are friends. Since they can be adopted as a pair or separately, we are featuring each pup individually. Clyde is a charming 11-year-old Maltese who will melt your heart with his soft cuddles and soulful eyes. He is a very gentle, affectionate, and laid-back boy who loves to be near his people and enjoys cuddling with his dog buddies. His foster home is an active household with a mom, dad, teen son, and two larger dogs, and he does well with everyone. Clyde would thrive in a quiet, loving home with someone who understands the joy and fulfillment of caring for and loving a senior dog. Whether you’re retired, work from home, or just want a sweet companion to keep you company, Clyde is ready to bring his gentle presence into your life. He enjoys short, leisurely strolls or just hanging out at home — he’s very adaptable and the perfect buddy for someone who enjoys a slower pace of life. He would do best in a home with a laidback pup companion and really appreciates the companionship of a dog buddy. As a senior, Clyde has some health issues to manage. He has a grade 4 to 5 heart murmur, which requires daily medications. We had an echocardiogram done to assess his condition, and he was cleared for dental surgery. He’s doing well on the medication and already had his dental cleaning and extractions. He’s feeling so much better now; his mouth infections are gone, and he has a new pep in his step. Clyde’s care will include bi-yearly bloodwork (which all seniors should have) and regular echocardiograms to monitor his heart condition every 6 to 12 months. Because of his past home conditions, Clyde currently wears a belly band during the day to protect him from marking or pee accidents. He knows to potty outside and will always poop outside. We suspect he has a mix of learned behavior from his prior home, older age, and some of the medications he is on make him more prone to potty. He has already learned to hold it overnight and enjoys snuggling up with this foster family in bed, so we’ve seen improvement. His foster mom has also noted that he tends to have more accidents when change or activity happens…so we think he could continue to improve in a calm environment. Despite his medical needs, Clyde’s foster mom, Jenn, describes him as a lovable, low-maintenance companion who is happiest snuggled up beside you or snoozing in a cozy bed. Clyde is a calm little guy who doesn’t ask for much — just a quiet, loving home where he can enjoy his golden years. Clyde may have a few extra needs, but the love he has to give is immeasurable. Story
Meet Carter! This adorable little Poodle pup was found as a stray and taken in by a Good Samaritan who reached out to our rescue for help. He was unneutered and treated for ear infections and a UTI, but is otherwise a healthy boy. His coat was a bit unkempt at first, but after a full groom, his fluffy white curls look healthy and full again. Carter was originally fostered in NC with two small senior dogs. Like many pups, he needed a little time to settle in and find his place in the pack, but he coexisted well with the other dogs. He’s more dominant than submissive and was initially a bit protective of affection and toys, but once he adjusted, and especially after being neutered, he relaxed significantly. He arrived on transport 12/6 and has settled quickly into his local foster home. He’s loving life as an only dog and bonded instantly with his foster parents, Neha and Salil. Carter is a confident, cuddly, affectionate boy and a total people-lover. He wants to be right by your side and happily snuggles in bed at night. He’s friendly with everyone he meets! He’s been around a 6-year-old and did great, but because he gets a little jumpy with excitement, we think he’s best with kids 7+. He is housetrained and crate-trained, and is crated when left alone. He’s not a huge crate fan, but he settles better crated than loose in a new environment. A flexible schedule would be a big plus as he transitions into a new home. If you’re looking for a best friend who follows you everywhere—to the couch, the dinner table, the bed, or even the bathroom, Carter is your guy. He enjoys his daily walks (pulls a bit but overall good!), rides nicely in the car, loves toys, and will happily entertain himself. He’s eager to please and already knows “sit,” and is working on “come.” Neha shares: “He’s a total sweetheart with all people, rarely barks, and is an expert snuggler. He also sleeps with his legs up in the air.”   BREED ESTIMATE: Miniature Poodle GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  17 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 3 to 4 years old COAT TYPE: Fluffy Coat that requires regular grooming ADOPTION FEE: $425.00 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neuterd/microchipped LOCATION: Bethesda, MD   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application.
