Meet Tobi! This 2-year-old Maltese–Shih Tzu mix weighs around 14 lbs and is equal parts affectionate, playful, and easygoing. She was surrendered locally by her elderly owner who cared deeply for her but wanted to ensure she’d have a home that could keep up with her needs. Tobi is now looking for a forever family to cuddle, explore, and grow with.
Tobi is incredibly sweet and social. She loves snuggling up on your chest while you relax and watch TV, and when you come home, she greets you with full-body joy—sometimes by grabbing one of your shoes and proudly parading it around the house (she never chews it, just wants to show off!). She enjoys walks, looking out the window, and zipping around the yard before settling in for some sunbathing. She likes squeaky toys, but lately has preferred outdoor time with her dog friends over indoor play.
She’s very friendly with people she knows, offering lots of kisses and affection. Around strangers, she’s usually outgoing and tail-waggy inside the home—jumping up from excitement—while a bit more timid outside, often pausing when new people walk by. That said, she’s not reactive, doesn’t bark or lunge, and continues her walk once she’s reassured.
Tobi has spent time with a 3-year-old child and did well. Based on her temperament, she would likely do great in a home with respectful kids who understand how to interact appropriately with dogs. She’s also done well around dogs of all sizes, including frequent playdates with neighbours’ dogs. She’s neutral on leash when seeing other dogs and plays nicely in small, familiar group settings. She hasn’t been tested with cats, so we can’t say how she’d do in a feline household.
Tobi is looking for a home where someone is around more often than not. She’s used to company and does best when she can be part of her humans’ daily routine—whether that means working from home, bringing her to the office, or including her in outings. She’s never been left alone for more than four hours and has shown no signs of separation anxiety—though she once gently rearranged some clothes onto the floor. She doesn’t bark or whine when left and is just excited to see you when you return.
She is house-trained, not crate-trained, and currently has free rein of the home. She typically stays on the main floor but will sometimes head upstairs for a nap in the office. She walks well on leash using a harness, though she can get excited when first heading out. Her recall still needs work—especially in the yard, where she prefers lounging to coming inside—but she responds to basic cues like “sit” and “drop it.”
Tobi would thrive in a quiet to moderately active home in the suburbs with access to a yard. She enjoys two 15–20-minute walks a day, along with backyard time where she zooms and then relaxes. Indoors, she’s calm and cuddly. She may jump on guests when they enter but settles with guidance. She’s also sensitive to loud noises like the vacuum but prefers to avoid them rather than react.
If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who’s happiest by your side and brings joy with every tail wag, Tobi might just be your perfect match.
