Hi all my name is Matilda but my foster family calls me Tilly for short, they say the nickname is as cute as I am. I’m a sweet little Maltese only 7 pounds & 7 years old. I spent my life as a puppy mill dog caring for my puppies all this time so I can be a little timid when meeting new people as I haven’t met many in the past. I’m now learning what it means to be a real dog in a real home & there’s lots of things that I love. Let’s see… love having a soft bed, blankets & throw pillows to rest my head on, definitely love other dogs & cats even though most are much bigger than I am. I’m getting the hang of playing with toys which I never had before & my foster mom thinks I walk very well on my leash & praises me all the time. I almost have potty training down but just in case I can’t hold it overnight I have a wee wee pad for emergencies but I’m confident that’s temporary because I’m also extremely smart. I do get nervous sometimes when I’m picked up but I do want to be close to my foster family & love TV time on the couch with them. Our dogs are in foster care and we do NOT have a shelter or boarding facility. AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL AND APPROVED BEFORE A DOG CAN BE MET. This is a firm policy. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care. Please read the profiles of the dog(s) you are interested in prior to submitting an application. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health, safety and adoption success of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://www.anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering and microchipping before transporting our dogs. We provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources. If you’re looking for an ultra-sweet grandpa dog, Keizer is your guy! This 10-year old, 5-pound Maltese mix is a mellow, mushy, marvelous ‘lil man who is as portable as they come! Easy to get along with, Keizer gets along with everyone, including kids and other dogs. He’s not too interested in toys, but if you want to pet him, he’s always down for that! Keizer seems to enjoy the outdoors, he loves going for walks, and he is well-mannered on a leash. Keizer is not yet fully housebroken, but he’s making excellent progress with the pee pads, esp when it comes to pooping. All he needs is a little time and patience…and soft treats to get his attention! Keizer has no teeth, so his food needs to be moistened and easy to chew. And wouldn’t ya know it, Keizer’s favorite time of day is meal time! No teeth, no problem - he somehow makes it work! An overall low-energy fella, Keizer spends a good part of the day snoozing, but when he’s awake, he hops around, he likes attention, he’s good in a car, and he’s amusing to watch. He rarely barks and he barely sheds…but if he sees his reflection in the mirror, you might find him woofing to himself! This mini-mop is so easy to love and an absolute pleasure to have around. Meet Shapo! Shapo is an 8 pound maltese and is 3 to 4 years old. Shapo is really such a great little guy to be around! He is very sweet and kind natured. Shapo is crate trained and potty trained and does well on a leash. He has been great with all of the other doggy friends he has met. Shapo loves to hang out with the other dogs but is also perfectly content hanging out on the couch or bed with his humans. Shap0 had a dental cleaning and bloodwork at his recent vet visit. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed.
