Story
Name: Truffles Breed Guess: Maltese Age: 4 years old Gender: Neutered Male Weight: 15 pounds Shelter Temperament: Sweet & Shy Energy Level: Low Children: 8 years plus Cats: Good Dogs: Meet and Greet Required Adoption fee: $525 Hi! I came to Kalamazoo all he way from Mississippi. I'm a sweet boy who does well with other animals. I'm a little shy with people, but I'm learning! The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

Story
**Adoption Pending** Oh, what a sweet soul Ozzie is. He is estimated to be about 8 years old and weighs 16 pounds. Ozzy loves to follow you around, he sure wouldn't want to miss anything! It does take him a little time to trust though and warm up to you, he is quite scared in this kennel environment. This darling little guy was very matted and had to be shaved down, the poor muffin has some sores on his skin from it, but still just does his happy trot looking for some pets. We sure hate to see seniors here at the rescue, hopefully his forever family will scoop him up quickly. Ozzy would probably prefer a quieter more predicable type of home with older children, due to his shy, scared nature. If you are interested in Ozzie and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO BEFORE SUBMITTING AN ADOPTION APPLICATION Meet Gibb!  This sweet pup was abandoned and left alone in the home when the family moved out.  When he came into our care, his fur was dirty and matted, stained with urine and feces, he had fleas and was malnourished  The mats so bad on his feet, the groomer needed a scalpel blade to cut them out.  Afterwards she saw how inflamed and swollen his feet were!  Despite everything Gibb has endured, he has shown no aggression!  As a matter of fact, he was giving his foster mom little kisses the same day he arrived at her home.  Gibb seems to have a gentle spirit.  He is submissive, but insecure and lacks confidence and stays close only to those he trusts.  He takes time to warm up to new people and new environments. He is easily startled, which seems to indicate he may have been living in a chaotic environment.  Gibb does have separation anxiety, which over time in a stable environment may resolve itself, but it will take time.  Because of this, he isn't a good candidate for an apartment.  Also, his adoptive family must not coddle him or treat him like a baby, as this will only reinforce separation anxiety.  We also don't recommend placement in a home with children because of his skittish behavior.   Gibb is potty trained and keeps his crate clean.  In a new environment he may mark or have potty accidents until acclimated to the routine and environment.  He is very comfortable in a crate, sleeps in it all night and willingly goes in it to rest during the day.  When happy, he has a cute behavior of grabbing a toy and bringing it to you, then taking it to his bed like a cuddle buddy. He is reportedly good with other dogs his own size.  He plays well with his foster mom's Bichon. We don't know how Gibb is with cats. Gibb was at the vet for an exam and vaccines.  The vet estimated his age at about 3 years old.  No health issues were noted.  Gibb is UTD on vaccines, microchipped and neutered.   Please do not apply unless you have the love and patience to allow Gibb to progress at his own pace.     Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to    Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information.    Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 17, 2024, 5:01 pm

Story
Madonna is a petite 10-11 lb Maltese with a gentle heart and a playful spirit. She's searching for a patient, loving family to help her grow into her confident, affectionate self! Here's what makes Madonna special: She gets along well with other dogs, cats, and kids! While she's still learning to show her affection, she's made incredible progress. When Madonna first arrived a month ago, she was very shy. Now, she's curious and giving adorable little "boops, though she's still learning to enjoy being petted. Madonna loves to play and explore! Plushy squeaky toys are her favorite. She's improving with potty training but sometimes gets too excited outside to focus. Needs work on leash walking and learning commands, but she has good basic manners. Outgoing and lively at adoption events, though still cautious about touch. She does well when enclosed during the day, as long as the crate door is open. Madonna is looking for a family that will give her the time, patience, and love she needs to feel secure and continue opening up. Could that be you?
