Story
Meet Redd, a spirited little guy who’s ready to find his forever home! At 14 years young, Redd was surrendered by his former family but was fortunate enough to be welcomed into a loving foster home with COALDR just an hour later. This delightful pup has more spunk and energy than many dogs half his age! Each morning, he bounds outside with enthusiasm, eager to explore his yard and greet his doggy friends. Weighing in at just 11 pounds, Redd is a charming Poodle/Maltese mix and is currently fostered in Smithfield, VA. Redd has a cataract in one eye and is likely blind in that eye. His other eye has age-related vision loss, but he can see shadows and navigates his environment quite well. Redd is house-trained but prefers to use pads overnight. He’s had a thorough medical check-up and is in excellent health. This lovable boy gets along great with everyone, so a home with older, respectful children would be ideal. Because of his limited sight, he may not be comfortable around very young kids. Redd loves mealtime and isn’t shy about expressing his impatience if he has to wait. Aside from that, he’s quite a calm pup who would do well in an apartment setting. Redd enjoys leisurely walks and loves spending time outside, exploring his yard. He’s great with other dogs and adores every person he meets. If you’re ready to give this fun-loving little fellow a cozy retirement home, please complete an application to adopt him!

Story
Lukas is a 11 1/2 years old, he is been a very good dog all his life. He never bites no one, but the only thing is that how he is old he doesn’t like to be bothered by another dog. He used to have more space but we just moved and being so sad not to have enough space for him. He enjoys attention but he also loves to be alone.

Story
DOB 5-25-2024 Amir is a sweetheart! This little boy is social, loves toys and friends to play with and gets along good with others. He is neutered, heartworm negatiive and received his ProHeart 6 injection. His adoption fee is 750.00 and his transport fee is 165.00 The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
Meet Milo!!!  This special boy is a 4 1/2 year old, 11 lbs maltipoo.  He is the complete package.  This sweet boy is good with other dogs both big and small.  He is also good with cats.  Milo is an active little guy that has the best time running and playing with his foster brothers and sisters.  They all have the best time in their fenced in yard.  Milo really enjoys playing but he is also all about the most important thing--YOU!  Milo loves his foster mom.  If she sits down he is right there.  If she goes to the kitchen Milo is right behind her to see if he can help.  At bed time, you got it, trotting down the hall with you.  This great guy would be an excellent companion for a young single person or a great addition to a family with children 6 and older.  (to our knowledge he has not been around toddlers and we don't want to set him up for failure.)  Milo is so small that he could go everywhere with you that doggies are allowed even in the airplane on vacation!  This boy does not want to be left behind.  Milo is ready for a late new year celebration when he meets his forever family.  Hopefully that will be with you.  To be considered for Milo's frever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcaast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (Milo is currently in Tennessee and can be transported north upon adoption.)January 6, 2025, 2:04 pm

Story
Pinky is available to meet by appointment. Submit an application and an Adoption Counselor will reach out to you.Pinky can be a little persnickety when first meeting him, and doesn`t like being touched much until he has time to get to know you. Pinky has done very well in a foster home, and has really started to relax and open up. This is big for this little guy, given the condition he was in when he first came to us. Pinky was found wandering the streets and never claimed, so he was not the most trusting of people in the beginning. Also, when he first got to us his skin was bright pink, irritated and he had a ton of hair loss- we believe a mix of his poor health and lack of positive interactions with people led to his handling sensitivities- with positive reinforcement and the right medications he has come a long way but there is still room for improvement. Luckily this guy is a major foodie so snacks are definitely the key to earn his trust. He is pee-pad trained and does really well indoors, so anyone looking for a low key dog who doesn`t need to go out much would find their perfect match here! Despite his rotund figure he is quite playful! He loves his toys- stuffies that crinkle and squeak, balls he can chase after- you can tell he really loves a specific toy when he makes little piglike snorts which he’ll also make for you (when he decides you’re pals) when you walk in the door. Pinky certainly knows how to make you feel loved in his own funny way! There is no way not to love him when you see him sleeping belly up in his big fluffy bed, which he often likes to do. He just needs someone to give him a chance and let him have a bit of time to get to know you, and also someone who understands small dogs who can be a little particular, or dare we say, cranky at times. Pinky is looking for an adult only home so that he can continue to become accustomed to handling and build a bond with his person at his own pace. He is considered a special needs adoption due to his thyroid issues that he is on medication for as well as his handling sensitivities. Despite all his quirks, Pinky can be a really great dog for the right type of person and we`re sure his perfect match will come along. Do you have persnickety little dog experience and are willing to give this guy the patience and love he deserves? Submit an application to learn more about him!Pinky is now part of the extended stay club! Since he`s been here for longer, his adoption fee has been re

Story
Biggles may be paralyzed but that doesn’t stop him from living life to the fullest! We believe Biggles is around 5 years old and he originally came to us from Antigua after he was hit by a car. Biggles was so skinny when he arrived but he’s definitely gained some weight and muscle and now weighs 12 lbs. Taking on a paralyzed dog may be a little more work, but it is definitely so rewarding. Biggles has started to walk on his own and with some physical therapy he will just get stronger. Biggles also has a wheelchair that he can use when he is outside or for longer walks. Biggles absolutely LOVES the snow and it’s so cute to watch him play in it. Biggles does need to be expressed to urinate 3-4 times a day. This is actually very easy to do but can get a little messy. We will show any potential adopter exactly what needs to be done. He should have regular urine checks to ensure that he does not have a UTI. Biggles was heartworm positive but was treated for the disease months ago. He will still show as positive on any snap test for the next 6-8 months though. Biggles has been great with most of the dogs he’s met but he can get a little jealous of new dogs (especially intact males). But he eventually calms down. Biggles is great in a pen and isn’t very vocal. He loves to play with toys. Biggles is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and recently had full blood work and a urinalysis.
