Here's some notes from his foster:
Turnpike: A Sweet and Mellow Addition to a Family with Pets
Turnpike is a charming, hairless little guy with an irresistible, funny, sweet personality! In just a few days, I fell in love with him, and he won over everyone he met with his gentle and easygoing nature. He's a quiet, independent dog who's happy to go with the flow.
Turnpike is 100% potty trained and also pee pad trained. He's incredibly earnest about holding it until he can go outside, which is especially important considering how much water he drinks. He'd thrive in a home with easy access to a patio or yard for frequent potty breaks so he doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. When he needs to go, you will learn his quiet little gestures to let you know.
Although one of Turnpike’s biggest charms is his independent nature happy to explore the smells of his environment by himself, he truly blossoms in a lively home with other dogs and plenty of human activity. His walks are much more spirited when he's in a social environment, and he loves greeting people and other animals with gentle nose bumps. He's incredibly gentle and not at all aggressive, suggesting he would do well in a home with other small pets (cats, squirrels, hamsters, etc.).
Turnpike is a very quiet dog – I haven't even heard him bark! He's content to find his bed and settle in for a nap when left alone, showing no signs of issues being left alone. Being blind, Turnpike explores his surroundings by gently bumping into things. He's more confident in daylight and a little more cautious at night. I've found that walking close to him and shuffling my feet helps him navigate, and a gentle sniff of my leg or shoes reassures him I’m right here when he seems unsure. He quickly learned where the door to the house is and is always happiest when returning to the warm inside.
Turnpike sleeps soundly through the night, but having a pee pad nearby would be helpful for any nighttime potty needs. While he enjoys snuggling on the bed, it's important to be cautious due to his blindness and ensure he can't fall. He loves nose, ear, belly, and chest rubs to help him drift off to sleep. He might be a little restless or grumble the first few nights in a new home as he adjusts.
Turnpike is a truly special dog who deserves a loving and understanding home. He's such a good boy who brought so much joy to me! If you're looking for a gentle, low-key companion who’s house-trained, the quiet type, and adaptable, Turnpike is perfect!
