Story
Meet Harvey! This adorable little guy isn’t even two years old and has already been through multiple homes. He was originally given away by his owners to a family with young kids who had never had a dog before. It wasn’t the right fit, and once again, Harvey found himself without a home. Thankfully, an animal advocate stepped in and reached out to Worthy Dog for help. Harvey is now thriving in his South Carolina foster home with his foster mom, Renee, and her dog Ryder, a WDR alum and seasoned foster mentor. Ryder has helped many new pups settle in, and he and Harvey hit it off right away. They love romping around the yard and playing together. Ryder is bigger, but super gentle with Harvey. Harvey also met the young Doodle next door but found that pup a little too energetic for his taste. Harvey prefers a gentler play style. Harvey has great house manners. On day one, he tried to mark (not uncommon for unneutered males in new places), but after a few days with a belly band and his recent neuter, that behavior stopped. He now goes to the door when he needs to go out and follows Ryder’s lead. Harvey has a moderate energy level; he plays with toys throughout the day but is also a world-class snuggler indoors. Renee doesn’t crate him, and he’s proven trustworthy in the house. Renee describes Harvey as a social pup. He warms up quickly to visitors and has met her grandsons a few times. At their first meeting, he was unsure and growled over a toy, but with some guidance and time, he welcomed them with excitement on their next visit, playing tug and cuddling with them on the couch. He just needs time to get to know new people. Here’s what Renee had to say about Harvey: “Harvey is a great dog. He’s not a big barker, he just alerts to unfamiliar noises. I left him for 5 hours the other day, and he slept the entire time. No accidents, no issues. He sleeps in my bed all night and never makes a peep. I put a big blanket at the foot of the bed with his two favorite toys, and he likes to chew on them at bedtime until he falls asleep.” Harvey is a happy, adaptable pup. He’d do great with another small or medium dog with a similar energy level, or could shine as a solo dog too. He’d be best with kids aged 7+ who understand that dogs need time to adjust. He’s young and needs regular walks and playtime to burn off energy, but in return, you’ll get a loyal, loving cuddle buddy. Harvey arrives in late May. Apply today!
