Story
Wookie is a smart, sensitive, snuggly guy. He is about 20lbs, 2 years old, and while he can take a few to warm up to new people overall is a chill dude. He likes other dogs. Wookie wasn't sure how to walk on leash at all at first so he will need some basic training on things like that and new socializing experiences should be done slowly but he is doing great with this. He would do well in a home with gentle kids ages 10 years of age and up.July 6, 2024, 6:55 pm

Story
Meet Phil, a resilient fluffy pup! Though his exact breed is a mystery (likely Laso Apso or Maltese mix), his charming personality shines through. Phil faces the world with unique challenges as he is almost completely blind in one eye and partially in the other due to cataracts, but he gets around great and loves playing fetch. Initially, Phil's fear led to biting, prompting an owner to surrender with a euthanasia request. However, since finding refuge in a caring environment, Phil has undergone a remarkable transformation. Despite his sensory impairments, he navigates confidently, proving that love and understanding can conquer fear. Phil isn't your typical cuddly companion, but he exudes happiness and confidence. He likes being pet and having his chest rubbed, (but on his terms), and he can give a warning if he has had enough. He thrives on exploring and being near his human and particularly loves sitting on your lap or on the couch next to you. He loves being with people in general and is good in larger groups (i.e. picnics, riding on the bus). His distinctive way of communicating, whether through vertical jumps for attention or barks to indicate his desires, adds to his endearing character. This little guy has preferences - he values his space and will assertively communicate when it's being encroached upon, usually when he is not quite ready to get out of bed or if he doesn't want to be picked up at that moment. However he is easily distracted and has a short memory, so he is easy to maneuver. Phil's unique quirks make him a character with a big personality and an adorable expressive face. Understanding his likes and dislikes reveals a joyous canine companion who thrives in a patient adult home. He is good with other dogs and cats. He is partially house-trained and is able to go on a pee pad. We discovered and are treating a UTI so hopefully that will help. He responds well to positive reinforcement (and clapping).

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.  Adoption Fee: $700   Piper is an 8 year old Lhasa Apso mix who was rescued from a local overflowing shelter. This gal came right to the front of her enclosure with a wag in her tail and soulful eyes, so we absolutely couldn’t say no to saving her! She is the perfect package all wrapped up with an adorable underbite! Piper has a gorgeous non-shedding coat which means she will require regular grooming. She is an option for those with allergies or those who just want less hair around the house.    Below is a note from Piper’s foster.  “Piper is a goofy, friendly, loving and energetic dog who has been an absolute joy since day one! She has an adorable underbite which gives her a perpetual smile, making it hard to resist giving her anything and everything she desires! She is adventurous in her quest to sniff all the good smells in the world but still likes to end her day curled up in a soft dog bed. She is playful and will happily chase after her toys, but when she wants a break she will nudge her head into your hand for endless pets. She is an absolutely perfect gal who will be a fabulous addition to any home!  Piper starts her day at 7 AM and goes outside for a potty break. She has breakfast around 8:30 AM and then spends her days snoozing on soft blankets and beds around the house. She gets an afternoon walk and she loves sniffing her way through the neighborhood. After her walk, she spends some time playing with her foster home before she has dinner at 6 PM. In the evening, she cuddles with us before heading to bed around 9 AM.  Piper gets along well with other dogs when she meets off-leash. She needs a slow introduction to new people and reacts best to people who are willing to work through her Napoleon complex. Once she gets to know her people, she will be nothing but loving forever. Piper would do best in a home where there is less chaos, so older kids only.”   Piper needs a home with prior experience so she can best thrive. She would do best with a home ready to continue her training and exposure to the world. Kids should be over the age of 15.  July 6, 2024, 4:41 pm
