Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Wallie is a very active boy who has been thru a LOT of change after being rescued from a shelter, and then just a short year later evacuating from his flooded home during Hurricane Harvey only to lose his precious mom (a beloved fellow doxie rescuer) very unexpectedly in the aftermath. Her family chose to surrender 4 of her dogs to ATDR so we could help place them in loving homes as she would have wanted. It has been a confusing road for this sweet fellow, but Wallie is excited to find his new forever family. He loves to be petted and cuddle on the couch but is also very gregarious and needs a calm home with an experienced, but gentle and loving pack leader to guide him. His personality seems to be more like a Beagle. He gets along well with other laid back dogs, however he must go to a cat free home with no pocket pets. He also dearly loves his toys...they are his babies and he takes them to bed with him and he just loves to play fetch. It is his favorite thing. He uses the doggie door and will go outside to potty, but prefers to relax where the people are in the air conditioning. His Beagle side is very chatty when he is excited but he behaves very nicely in his crate at night and when his foster mom goes to work. Wallie requests a home with a securely fenced yard. Wallie is ready to find his forever person or family. He knows they are out there looking just for him.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 2, 2024, 6:28 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ATDRThis little angel is Sugar Buns, she is a blue and tan dachshund with congenital alopecia! Sadly, she suffered an injury to her spine that left her paralyzed. After laser treatments and many other heartfelt efforts to try and help her, her family tearfully made the ultimate loving sacrifice and surrendered their beloved baby girl to ATDR so that she could receive the even more costly care she needed. Sugar Buns has been given stem cells and other specialized IVDD treatments at Safari Veterinary Care Center and in-house physical therapy there that appears to be having good results. See video posted below.  Sugar Buns is a sweet and loving girl who freely gives kisses to those she meets. She’s so deserving of having a normal life again where she can move around and enjoy life.  She now is able to walk albeit a little wobbly but she flies around the house and yard like she is the queen!  She uses the doggie door and mostly controls her bladder unless she can't quite get to the door or pad in time - but it isn't the end of the world.  She knows she needs to go outside she just doesn't always make it in time.  The kind of care she's received at Safari is very costly, but with the help of kind-hearted generous animal lovers like all of you ATDR is able to save precious pups life Sugar Buns. If you would like to help ATDR help this darling girl, please go to the Donate button on the left-hand side of this page or mail a check to ATDR’s address near the top of that column. No amount could ever be too little and anything would be greatly appreciated. ATDR thanks you in advance for being a part of Sugar Buns journey back to better mobility and health.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 2, 2024, 6:28 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ATDR 3077Say hello to Bonnie! This cute little Chiweenie girl somehow found herself in a Central Texas shelter, but when ATDR was contacted, we immediately rushed to her rescue! She’s now safely tucked away in a comfortable foster home where it is reported that she is super friendly and has a smile on her face all the time! When she smiles, she shows her teeth and is absolutely adorable!  Her foster mom reports that she loves other dogs and cats but she doesn't trust strangers. If you have people in and out of your house, she would probably need to be crated or secured in a different room because she's extremely protective! Once she becomes comfortable with her person, she is super sweet to that person, but remains very afraid of strangers to her because of previous abuse she's suffered before coming into rescue. She acts like a young dog and is very athletic. She is a quiet pup unless she sees something new and then she will bark so apartment or condo living will not work for her or you. She is a lovely pet, but will need to be in the right home...children and/or multiple people coming and going would not be the right match for Bonnie. Bonnie adores snuggling with or without other pets in her foster mom’s lap and would stay there for hours if she could! If she goes to a forever home with another dog who is calm and playful sometimes (not a younger playful one), she would play with them. Bonnie uses pee pads consistently but her foster mom believes she would be easy to housebreak because she is very smart and loves to please.  This girl is a Houdini who easily climbs and jumps fences, so a forever home must have a 6-foot smooth on the inside fence (not chain link) because she will climb if given the opportunity.  She becomes terrified if you raise your voice and will dive over, through and under anything when she is scared. She has suffered some fairly significant abuse in her past so is very upset if you are upset. A gentle voice and praise works best with her. She is hyper alert and has a tendency to be a barker, so apartment or condo living is not advised. She may calm down and bark less as she feels more secure.  In summary, Bonnie must go to a home with very few visitors because she is extremely protective. She definitely would not do well in a home with children of any age or teenagers due to her tendency to become frightened at sudden movements and loud noises...she would bolt and could become feral in a minute! A quiet home where someone who works from home or is retired loves having a warm little pup in their lap would be perfect for her. She wants to be with her person if at all possible, but she is not super clingy.  If you’re an adult home looking for a little friend and companion to love and share quiet time with, please submit an adoption application for Bonnie Stein! She’ll warm your heart and lap in no time!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 2, 2024, 6:28 pm
