Learn more at ohar.org/platinumpawsNemo's tinder profile reads: Handsome dude seeks human companion. For life. I'm the real deal and I'm looking for a commitment. I've been married before and was left high and dry so if you're just here to play around keep swiping. I like to take things slow. I'm a foodie. I like dogs and won't judge their size. Cats... haven't tried those yet. Kids. Bleh. They can stress me out so they need to be on the chill side. Just being honest. Did I mention how honest I am? Well, I am. I'm also a catch. Come catch me! Love, NemoAdoption Process: After your application is approved, a home visit is schedule. We will bring the pet to you and help with introductions to your current pet(s). Are you a homebody that was social distancing before 2020? Then I'm the dog for you!I'm a self-proclaimed wallflower, who isn't into big parties or big crowds. I like my personal space when meeting new people and prefer to go at my own pace. But don't let my shyness fool you. Once I know you're cootie free all bets are off and I turn into a total mush bucket.I love playing in the yard with other dogs, especially the lovely ladies. I am also an enthusiastic learner and enjoy learning new things with the help of my trusted people.I listen well and have been told that I'm the perfect gentleman. My ideal family would be someone who continues to give me praise and has another dog that I can be best friends with. Are you that person? Story
Say hello to Marley!Marley loves people and other dogs! Marley can play all day with his canine companions and will look up at you with a Cheshire cat grin when you show him affection. Marley is an intelligent doggo who can be a bit of a stinker. He knows what he can and can't get away with and will sometimes test boundaries to see how far he can go. This usually entails his demands for a pet and a "good boy" before he goes into his kennel. It's hard not to chuckle at his devious little ways.Marley is obsessed with toys and food. And when we say obsessed, we mean obsessed! To the point that he hoards them all to himself and doesn't want to share. That means if his new family has another dog, they will need to keep toys out of reach when unsupervised and feed separately. But that's not a big deal when you have Marley's adorable face looking up at you in admiration.Learn more about Marley by contacting OHAR today!

Story
Knut came to us at 3 weeks during a winter storm old and was one of the biggest babies we had seen. That is why we named him after a famous polar bear cub. We are unsure of his breed, and as he gets bigger our guesses keep changing. We do think he has some hound in him due to his elongated snout. He is now 9 months old and weighs 60 lbs. He is neutered, microchiped, and has had 3 rounds of vaccines. We expect him to be quite a large dog fully grown, possibly over 80lbs. However, Knut is a gentle giant. He is very sweet and passive and loves to play with the other dogs. But his favorite thing to do is eat. He is a little shy at first, but warms up quickly. He is ready for his forever home and a family that wants a big dog with a big heart.

Story
I named this precious girl Gem because in my opinion, she is a real jewel! She is listed as a Lab/retriever mix weighing about 35 pounds and about 1 1/2 years old. She is spayed. And oh, those adorable folded-over ears! Gem was brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter because she was not being adequately cared for by her owners. With nutritious food and water as well as shelter, she has filled out and looks healthier. She is friendly and has such a pleasant personality. She takes treats and will sit for them, taking them politely. Gem has a moderate activity level and seems to thoroughly enjoy getting a break from her kennel and from the noise of the other dogs, scouting out all the interesting scents in the yard and stretching her legs. She did her business in the yard. She walks well on a leash. She was more than happy for me to pet her and show her some loving attention. Gem is hoping to find a better home next time around with people who will cherish and love her, giving her what she needs to have a happy and healthy life and giving her plenty of TLC, exercise, playtime and enrichment. And it goes without saying that she wants to live inside with her people in order to be an integral part of the family circle. Will you please help her to realize that dream home?

Story
Meet Molly! She is a 3 yr old spayed female Lab Retriever/Pointer maybe a little Great Dane that weighs 68lbs. She came in as a stray on 7/23 to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. She is a beauty then you add on those golden browneyes and she is stunning. Molly is a gentle soul that enjoys being petted and loved on. She walks nicely on a leash and knows the sit command. While out in the shelter yard she enjoys stretching her long legs out and taking in all the smells on a nice sunny day. As she was on a walk at a nearby park she enjoyed seeing all the new sights and people and didn't show any interest in the other dogs walking by. We do always ask if there is another dog in the family to please ask the shelter for a dog test. Molly enjoys romping about with a squeaky toy then taking it to a fluffy dog bed to enjoy. When meeting people she seems to prefer females, as it takes her a bit to warm up to men. Molly has captured the hearts of staff and volunteers and knows she would make a wonderful companion to a loving family. It would not take long hanging out with this girl to fall head over heels in love with her!

Story
Most of us cannot imagine our family abandoning us. Well, Coconut didn't either until one night he found himself tied to a tree behind the Mesquite Animal Shelter. He was scared and confused! He didn't understand. Luckily employees spotted him there when they came to work in the morning and brought him into the safety of the shelter. Coconut is a one-year-old 62 pound retriever lab mix with attractive markings. He was a abandoned on 10/14. However, in spite of being left behind it appears he's been well taken care of. He's an active guy. His sense of smell is very keen. It was difficult taking pictures of him as he kept his nose to the ground. He does jump on you out of excitement and needs to be told to get down. He is active and agile. He could use some behavioral training to channel his energy. He sits for treats and does take them gently. He loves to be loved on (see last three photos). He's very friendly and a happy guy. He would do well with a very active lively family. He appears to be housebroken. He has a strong pull on the leash, but then he was anxious to get out to do his business. He did not want to meet any other dogs. It appears he was intimidated by them. He needs a yard to explore, but then wants to come in to cuddle and share family time.
