His striking dark brown eyes are his most prominent feature, and his upbeat, joyful, loving personality makes him seem much younger than his age. He pranced happily around the yard, staying alert and curious as he explored. His tail never stopped wagging. Treats are a big motivator for him, and while he sits for them, he’ll need to learn to take them more gently. This well-mannered gentleman walks beautifully on a leash and takes care of business quickly once outside. He dreams of a yard to play in and a cozy bed or blankets to snuggle into inside your home.

Meet Cash, a Lab/Retriever mix who came in as a stray on 1/28. He’s about a year old, weighs around 50 pounds, and is a bit unnerved by the noise of barking dogs around him. He wouldn’t walk on a leash, so he had to be carried to the yard and back, though I’m confident he could learn—or may already know—how to walk nicely once he’s more comfortable. In the yard, he ran and played with joy, clearly loving the chance to stretch his legs. He may be housetrained, as he did his business outside, and he appears to have been well cared for. Curious and playful, Cash explored every inch of the yard, happily took treats, and showed his affectionate side with kisses and attempts to climb into my lap. He’s heartworm negative and would make a loyal, devoted pet who loves to snuggle, cuddle, and bond with his people indoors.

He arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/13 as an owner surrender because his family was moving and couldn’t take him along. Shaq has a kind, gentle, and loving soul—one meeting with him and you’ll be smitten. He walks beautifully on a leash, takes treats softly, and even gave me sweet kisses on my hand. He loves being petted and will sit or lie down next to you to be close. Shaq has met another dog here without any negative reaction, but if you have a pup at home, we ask that you bring them to meet him. He deserves a forever home where he’s shown the love and affection he craves. A secure yard to play in and living indoors with his favorite humans is his dream. Sarah is a 3yr old, spayed, 55 pound retriever lab mix that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 2/10 as a stray. She was very patient while I brushed her. She investigated the yard and then came back and stood by me. She walks very well on a leash. She did her business as soon as she got out into the yard. She has so much love to give. She would like nothing better than to investigate your yard and then come back inside for cuddles!

Murphy has such a unique appearance! With one blue/one brown eye, a shiny black coat with speckled chest and feet, and fold-over ears, he is stunningly attractive! Murphy was surrendered 1/6/26 as they could no longer care for him. Murphy weighs 58 pounds, neutered and is about 3 years old. He is listed as a Lab/Retriever but my Dog Scanner suggests German Short-haired Pointer/English Pointer in the breed mix. Owner reported that he is house trained, was an indoor dog, and lived with and was OK with other dogs. I found him to be a delightful and charming boy who deserves another chance at a forever home with someone who will stay committed to him. He walks nicely on a leash and enjoys going for walks. He knows the sit and paw commands. He will sit for treats and takes them politely. He is well mannered and gentle. He is an inquisitive fellow, checking out his surroundings with such intense interest. He is friendly and affectionate. We met a lady in the parking lot who got down on his level to pet him and he promptly gave her kisses. Can you please assist Murphy in having a very short and brief time at the shelter?
