Up for adoption in Texas: Mocha. Mocha has lots of personality! Just look at how she poses for pictures, she shines and makes funny faces. She is about 7 years old and weighs 47 pounds. Mocha wants nothing more than to find her forever family. Mocha is a beautiful, fluffy, black and white girl, with gorgeous, hazel eyes. She listens well and redirects easily. Mocha would do best in a quiet home without a lot of people coming and going or young children running about. We think she may have some herding dog breed in her and she doesn't like people or kids zipping around her or her yard. Adults and/or adults and older teens would be ideal for Mocha's forever home. She needs a fenced-in backyard. She does best with slow introductions to new people. She likes other dogs but can be a little bossy, so we'd recommend a home where she can be the only dog, or perhaps a home with another chill or submissive dog. (We would require a meet and greet if an adopter has an existing dog.) Mocha is not fond of cats. Shadow says: "Pick me! Pick me! My name is Shadow, and I'm up for adoption in Texas and I keep getting overlooked! I've been waiting for my forever home for more than a year. I'm getting sad." Shadow is about two years old, and he weighs about 50 pounds. He seems OK with cats!! Like a typical young dog, Shadow has lots of energy and loves to play. But he does very well in his crate and can be calm. He'd be a great hiking buddy or possibly running pal. He gets along with most dogs; for some reason, he isn't a fan of one dog he knows. We're not sure why. So if an adopter has another dog, we'd recommend a meet and greet first. Shadow has been non-reactive to cats, though. In fact, we had him cat tested, and we were told, "The cats checked him out from afar, then jumped right down and started rubbing on him. He wasn't so sure about it, but he stayed calm and gave no red flags." Shadow was originally adopted from Lucky Lab when he was a puppy during the pandemic. Several months later, he was returned to the rescue because his owners were busy with their kids and had no time to train him--he was a bit of a wild child. We'd like anyone who adopts Shadow to be an experienced dog owner and continue the positive reinforcement training he's received since he was returned. We think Shadow is very smart and would love the stimulation and attention he receives during training. He'd do best in a home with a fenced-in yard and adults and or adults and kids over 15. Shadow also needs exercise and playtime. Shadow has a lot of love to give, and we'd love for him to find a wonderful forever home. He is very loyal. Up for adoption in Texas: Lacey. Lacey's foster mom says she is an amazing one-to-two-year-old black Lab mix with a personality as big as Texas! She is a happy, go-with-the-flow girl, but two of her greatest pleasures are bird-watching and snuggling. If she could describe a perfect afternoon, it would be lying in the sunshine, watching the birds fly by. When the sun goes down, she loves to hop in the bed with her humans (with some help, which she patiently waits by the side of the bed for) and snuggle. She also believes that sleep is best-experienced upside-down. When Lacey’s foster family isn’t home, she is content in her kennel. She’s such a smart girl that Lacey runs and waits in the kennel when her foster parents grab the sausage treats. She lives with three other female black labs and two human boys (12 and 16) and loves all of them. When out and about, Lacey gets excited and loves to follow her nose, so she could use some practice on recall. Lacey had a hard life before she was saved by Lucky Lab. She suffered a leg injury. He has medium energy but knows how to settle down and hang out on the couch or the bed. He loves to cuddle up with you if you are taking a nap and rest his head on you. Nestle’ does well on car rides but doesn’t like getting into the vehicle. He loves to go on walks and can walk on a tandem lead with his foster brother. Nestle’ is good with large and small dogs. Our teams cared for Momo while navigating his medical needs, and ultimately the choice was made to amputate his wonky leg. Momo has never looked or felt better! Now that he's nicely recovered, his ideal home would a nice human or two and, most importantly, plenty of fetch. Momo loves the 2-toy game that way he always has a spare, and of course there will be plenty of snuggles in his future home. Momo is open to a doggy sibling if the vibe is right, as he's been maintaining his canine social skills with some of our rockstars in playgroup. Floyd came from a terrible place. He was abandoned in a horrible feces-filled filthy house and waiting to be used as a bait dog in a highly crime-ridden area. The neighbors could hear Dino and Floyd both screaming in the night. Floyd is totally coming around and so happy to be in a safe place. He is in sanctuary and will be considered for adoption by a caring individual who is familiar with special needs animals who've survived abusive situations. Floyd is a very dignified elder gentleman. He is a deep deep auburn color we think part Chesapeake Bay Retriever mixed with Irish Setter and a little Queensland cattle dog which explains Floyd's apartment-sized weight and measurements.
