Story
Meet Tucker, an eleven-year-old black Labrador Retriever mix who loves treats. This is one very sweet guy who will make a loyal companion. He knows a few basic commands but would benefit from reinforcing them with training. Luckily, he is a willing dog, especially when motivated by food rewards. Do not place with cats or dogs.Tucker has a history of ear infections, which are responding well to treatment. To help alleviate this condition, we have him on a special hypoallergenic food, which he will need to be on for the rest of his life.He is slated for some dental work, which will be completed before he heads to his new home. As a senior dog (8+), Tucker is eligible for our Seniors for Seniors program, which waives the adoption fee to qualified adopters 60+.All dogs and cats adoptied at HSHPE have been vaccinated, microchipped and spay/neutered, and have been treated for internal and external parasites, when needed. Adopters will receive a $25 gift certificate from Ren’s Pets and a pet care booklet from Pet Valu with coupons worth up to $300. Adopters who bring the paperwork from their HSHPE adoption to PetSmart Belleville or Kingston will receive a booklet with coupons worth up to $300.

Story
Name, age, breed: Dixie, 4 years old, Lab mixLikes: food, walks, being pet, sleeping in your bed, cuddles, scratchiest and overall attention. Dislikes: new people coming into home, loud noises, things being thrown in the air (yes if you throw something in the air, she will hit the deck)What would be the ideal home? A balance between quiet and active. Routine is a huge part of Dixie and helps with her anxiety.Good with other cats? Unknown Good with dogs? Somewhat - if properly introducedGood with children? Unknown (but she is very good with our gerbils)Temperament: shy, incredibly loving, pretty laid backMotivators? FOOD. Food food food. Will do anything for food.Any commands? Sit, stay, wait, lay down, up, paw, “go pee pee”, come here.House trained? Yes, never had even one accident in the house.Crate trained? No. We tried but she just couldn’t due to anxiety. How long will it take to settle into a new environment? 2-3 months - at least that’s how long it took for Dix to settle in here (foster home).Any special needs or traits an adopter should know? She’s a pretty shy girl around new people, new dogs, new environments. Trust me, once she comes out of her shell, she’s the sweetest dog with no bad bone in her body. She’s very polite and will only jump on the bed if invited up. She loves her dog bed, it’s her safe spot. She has never picked up a toy here. All sorts, but never. She will always make you wonder if you fed her because all she does is ask for food. Medical: Has allergies therefore on a hypoallergenic diet. Has chronic ear infections that will need to be cleaned & treated as neededIf you think Dixie is the girl for you - fill out an application today!

Story
Patch came to our care as an owner surrender when his family moved West. He's a protective boy over his family and will bark at new people, but give him just a couple of mins and he's a friend for LIFE! He's an active boy who settles in very well, he is both crate trained and house trained. He may knock young children over given his size but he's a GENTLE and KIND "giant" Patch had extremely bad ears upon his arrival, he's been to the vet for his neuter and cleaned at that time. He has just a couple more days of antibiotics and ear drops. We had an allergy test done and it appears the cause of his ears being full of guck and infection was the food, He now eats a diet of grain free kibble and he's healing up very well! He's a handsome fellow with a wonderful temperament.
