Story
Milo is a 1-year-old Lab mix Milo came to us as a stray in July. Milo is a big, friendly guy with a lot of love to give, but he needs a home that can provide him with the consistency, training, and leadership he requires to thrive.Milo is an incredibly smart dog—he learns quickly and has a lot of potential—but he has not had the benefit of basic training or boundaries in his early life. As a result, he tends to jump, mouth, and get overly excited in certain situations. He’s also struggled with respecting personal space and can be a bit overwhelming if not managed properly. Milo is not a `turnkey` dog; he needs an experienced, adult-only home where he can get the structure and training he needs to succeed.Milo has been returned to the shelter twice due to behavioral issues, so we are looking for a committed adopter who understands the challenges of working with a dog who has not yet learned proper socialization and impulse control. He is not a dog for first-time owners—he needs someone who is patient, consistent, and ready to invest time and effort into his training and rehabilitation.A few important notes about Milo:High prey drive: Milo cannot live with small animals or cats.Dog selective: He has a history of being picky with other dogs, so he should be the only dog in the home.Needs strong leadership: Milo will thrive in a home where his owners are confident, experienced, and can provide clear boundaries and structure.Despite his challenges, Milo is a sweet and loving dog who has so much potential to be a loyal companion. He’s looking for a dedicated adopter who can give him the chance he deserves. If you’re an experienced dog owner who’s ready to work with a dog like Milo, he could be the perfect fit for you.If you think you could be the right match for Milo, please come meet him today. He’s waiting for a second chance—and with the right home, he could truly shine. All animals available for adoption at HSHPE have been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered, and have been treated for internal/external parasites.Adopters will receive a $25 gift certificate from Ren`s Pets and a pet care booklet from Pet Valu with coupons worth up to $300. Plus, adopters who bring the paperwork from their HSHPE adoption to PetSmart Belleville or Kingston will receive a booklet with coupons worth up to $300.For inquiries regarding adoptions or specific information on the pet you are interested

Story
Meet Tucker, an eleven-year-old black Labrador Retriever mix who loves treats. This is one very sweet guy who will make a loyal companion. He knows a few basic commands but would benefit from reinforcing them with training. Luckily, he is a willing dog, especially when motivated by food rewards. Do not place with cats or dogs.Tucker has a history of ear infections, which are responding well to treatment. To help alleviate this condition, we have him on a special hypoallergenic food, which he will need to be on for the rest of his life.He is slated for some dental work, which will be completed before he heads to his new home. As a senior dog (8+), Tucker is eligible for our Seniors for Seniors program, which waives the adoption fee to qualified adopters 60+.All dogs and cats adoptied at HSHPE have been vaccinated, microchipped and spay/neutered, and have been treated for internal and external parasites, when needed. Adopters will receive a $25 gift certificate from Ren’s Pets and a pet care booklet from Pet Valu with coupons worth up to $300. Story
Patch came to our care as an owner surrender when his family moved West. He's a protective boy over his family and will bark at new people, but give him just a couple of mins and he's a friend for LIFE! He's an active boy who settles in very well, he is both crate trained and house trained. He may knock young children over given his size but he's a GENTLE and KIND "giant" Patch had extremely bad ears upon his arrival, he's been to the vet for his neuter and cleaned at that time. He has just a couple more days of antibiotics and ear drops. We had an allergy test done and it appears the cause of his ears being full of guck and infection was the food, He now eats a diet of grain free kibble and he's healing up very well! He's a handsome fellow with a wonderful temperament.
