Rocky is one of the smaller male pups from a litter of 10. He is a challenging pup who pushes every limit he can! He will need a firm, patient owner who sets boundaries and stand by them. Like his brothers, he is a typical little boy who loves to run and chase and wrestle until it's time to eat. He will be a large dog, as both mom and dad are over 75 pounds. He is looking for a forever home that has some experience with the food motivated lab and stubborn mastiff. It is recommended that he attend a puppy socialization class to become comfortable with friends who are not his siblings. He will be visiting the vet this week for his vaccines, flea and tick treatment, microchip, and wellness screening. He will come with a voucher for his neuter at 6 months of age at our vet in Woodstock. His adoption fee is $500. You must be 21 years old to adopt and provide vet and personal references. Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Gunner. He is a yellow labrador Retriever who was born in May 2021. He weighs 57lbs and has a medium-length hair coat. Gunner was transferred to our Rescue where the opportunity for adoption is much greater here.     Gunner is a very happy active boy. He requires stimulation as he is on the move a great deal of the day. He loves playing with other dogs, especially chasing. He is very fast and will try and herd the other dog/dogs he is playing with. Gunner is very social with children and people. He was in foster care at another rescue since he was 4 months old but never found the right family. Gunner is astute and has excellent recall. He would benefit and excel from obedience classes. He rides well in a vehicle and loves car rides. Gunner needs work and practice walking on a lead and body harness. He has a 1/4 acre, fully fenced area, to run on at his foster home so is not used to going for walks. He would do fine in a home with older children as the younger ones, he would bowl over accidentally when he gets playful. The ideal home for Gunner is one where the family includes him in their outdoor activities. He needs to be able to run a good hour or perhaps go on a good long hike when it's not hot out. He requires mental stimulation so leaving him home with some toys won't work for this boy at his age. He is still a big puppy but housebroken. Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Oh Henry. He is one of 8 puppies born to Mommy Ellie on October 18. There are 5 girls and 3 boys in this litter. Ellie was rescued already Pregnant from a high-kill shelter. She had come in as a stray with a large pure black lab. We believe looking at these pups, that is who the father of the litter is. We believe this litter will reach 60 lbs plus when fully grown. They have thick, shiny coats. The entire litter has wonderful affectionate personalities. Currently, they are similar in all aspects. This entire litter is extremely affectionate and loves to be held and cuddled. They will be high-energy dogs based on their breed mixes. They have huge appetites and have been fed Royal Canin Medium Breed Puppy Food. They eat extremely fast, just like labs tend to do. They are fed every 4 hours during the day. They are a very busy breed mix and are currently stimulated with toys. They are paper trained and get warm quite easily. They give kisses but are very squiggly when trying to hold them. Oh Henry loves attention and is constantly wagging his tail for more kisses. He plays well with his siblings. They love the soft squeaky toys and are so excited when their foster family is in with them. They are not the greatest in the bath but are getting used to it. They are always on the go. Labrador Retrievers as well as Cattle dogs are tireless dogs that really enjoy and even need long walks every day to stay in good mental and physical shape. If you have the time that it takes to properly care for and exercise your dog every day - rain or shine - then Labraheeler may be the dog for you. Labraheelers need lots of space to thrive. Living in a city apartment is not ideal for these active dogs that need lots of outdoor exercises frequently which may not be possible in the cramped city environment. Even if you have a large park nearby but live in an apartment building then it would help to have neighbors with hearing problems, otherwise, you may get many complaints that your dog creates too much noise. Labraheelers are naturally vocal dogs that will bark and they will bark a lot, especially when not left alone or when they miss their long walk and have the energy that needs to be used in some way. Barking may be a solution for a Labraheeler to keep himself or herself busy for some time but for your neighbors, this may not be a pleasant experience. That is another reason why Labraheeler dogs are not recommended for people who live in a city apartment. This litter is currently very social and its adopters will need to continue to do so. Mommy Ellie is a very social cattle dog which is not the norm for her breed so that is a bonus for this litter genetically. Oh Henry had his first set of vaccines on Dec 13 including Bordetella. He was microchipped and weighed 6.2 kg. He is currently the largest in the litter. UPDATE: He had his 2nd set of vaccines including Lepto on Jan 23. He weighs 10.5 kg. UPDATE: He had his 3rd set of vaccines including Rabies on Feb 3. He weighed 15.3kg. A fully fenced yard or farm is mandatory to apply for Oh Henry. Preference will be given to those families who have another socialized dog in the home to keep him company and to teach him the dynamics of the home. As always, Barks and Meows Rescue will pay for the spays and neuters of this litter at 6 months of age at the West Lorne Animal Hospital.

I am delighted to introduce Caleb, a 7 month old Hound and Lab mix. Caleb came to our rescue from a local pound with a leg injury which is now healed. He weighed in for his neuter surgery at 44 pounds. Caleb is still a puppy with lots of growing left to do. He is a high energy pup who requires a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. He is looking for an outdoorsy and active person or family who can take him on many adventures and get out with him daily for long walks and hikes before a good evening couch cuddle. He currently goes on 4 or 5 walks daily with a minimum total of 7 km daily. Several times a week we go to the local conservation areas for a 5 km hike and on those days we may reach a total of 9 or 10 km. I believe Caleb would be a good candidate for agility training later on after he does his basic obedience training classes as he is highly trainable and loves to learn and work. Best advice I was given is that a well behaved puppy is a tired puppy. We have taken this to heart and because he gets his energy needs met, Caleb is a very laid back gentle boy who has done no typical puppy mischief in the house …although he recently thought it was fun to steal my slippers and hide them in one of his beds. At home Caleb is quite content to curl up on one of his beds and either nap or chew on his many toys both soft and hard. He delights in going to the toy box and taking out several toys to play with each day and leave them all over the house. He enjoys chasing toys down the hall but hasn’t quite got the idea of returning them to me. Caleb no longer follows me as my shadow and is happy to relax on his own in another room, mostly the living room where he has taken over the couch as his favourite go to place. . Caleb quickly learned the command “sit” and automatically sits to have his lead put on for walks and also when he returns home. We have an after walk routine; Caleb goes to the couch and wiggles himself silly until I come over and give him tummy rubs which he loves. My neighbour has nicknamed him the love bug. In the house Caleb is pretty good on the recall command. We often go to a nearby green space on a 50 foot long line so he can run. His recall can be comical as he comes running full speed and doesn’t always stop and I have to side step so he doesn’t run into me. It’s a work in progress. Caleb loves being outdoors and he spends time on a 30 foot long line in the yard with me since I don’t have a fenced in yard. He would love a home with a fenced in back yard where he could run and play, but this won’t be a replacement for his daily walks. He will do just fine without a fenced yard too as long as he gets his energy needs met like he does in his foster home. In the morning when I open his crate Caleb does a big stretch and then waits for an all over body rub before heading to his favourite couch waiting for me to get my shoes on for our first walk of the day. He is very patient and once he knows I’m ready he comes over to get his lead put on. At the writing of this bio he has been with me just over a month and has made amazing progress. Caleb is a very intelligent puppy who is quick to learn. He walks well on lead and rarely pulls. I have trained him on the gentle leader head halter but I haven’t found he really needs it. I was expecting him to pull when he saw bunnies, chipmunks and squirrels on our walks but he just stops and watches them until they disappear and then continues our walk. One evening Caleb spotted a baby toad on the road and was fascinated. He gently nudged it with his nose and it did a little hop forward. Caleb continued this sweet gentle play for several minutes before we resumed our walk. Caleb is a highly social puppy who loves to meet and greet new people and dogs. He is very gentle with these encounters and is a bit upset with me when I won’t let him meet everyone. Caleb recently met my neighbours 2 cats in a friendly manner. He has no problems with cars going by but large trucks and the back-up noise made by the garbage truck frightened him. Caleb is being fostered in a small rural community with nearby green spaces for his walks. He is not a candidate for a busy urban area as some traffic noises can be startling for him, but a quieter subdivision, a town, or a rural area would suit him well. Caleb is highly food motivated. Unless he’s being rewarded for obedience training sessions Caleb has to work for his treats. He was quick to solve simple treat puzzles and I have gone up to higher level ones. Caleb can be a counter surfer so all food needs to be kept out of his reach. He is a bottomless pit with a hearty appetite just like any growing puppy. During the day when it’s getting near meal time he will sometimes sit and look longingly at the counter area where his treat and food containers are kept hoping I’ll give in. Caleb has issues with separation anxiety that are being worked on. He rarely barks or whines unless I leave the house and then he will whine/howl until I come home. Because of this Caleb should not be in an apartment or condo home. We have been working together on this. We have found that a sturdy crate, and a frozen stuffed Kong or marrow bone to keep him busy when I’m gone seems to do the trick for him. When he has a food treat that lasts for a few hours he’s quiet in his crate. Caleb goes into his crate willingly with a treat and quietly sleeps through the night. Caleb is a wonderful pup, full of love and a sweet gentle nature. He is looking for a home preferably with a fenced in yard where he can free play and run to work off his high energy. His family needs to be outdoor oriented regardless of the season, already active walkers/runners/hikers, and willing to spend the time walking and hiking that this dog needs. He would be fine with older children who would enjoy teaching him how to play fetch. Caleb shouldn’t be left on his own for long periods of time and would be best with someone who works from home, or is otherwise home more than away. Caleb is looking for a family with the time and energy to bring out his full potential and who enjoy couch cuddles with a very affectionate, loveable dog. She is a very good looking three year old Lab/Pointer cross, and she is the happiest, most affectionate dog you will meet! She is large sized, about 50 lbs and 26 inches tall (at the shoulder). Cinnamon has shades of chocolate, with a swirl of white fur on her chest and a couple white spots on her toe. Her eyes are honey colored and it is easy to get lost staring into them as she happily pants, smiling at you. Cinnamon is not only good looking on the outside, but is a total sweetheart on the inside. She loves to do the “spin and plop”, cuddle, and fall asleep next to you. She has such a happy and goofy personality that will make you cherish her as part of your family. She was perfectly house trained and crate trained. She has no crate anxiety and will happily hop into the crate on command for breakfast, dinner, or even a treat. She can happily stay in a crate for up to 9 hours if needed and calmly naps during that time. She also sleeps in her crate at night just fine and enjoys a good bedtime snack when she goes in for the night. She is also very comfortable eating her meals in the crate. She is very well-behaved indoors. She loves chewing on bones and will entertain herself with them for hours. Cinnamon loves to play tug and play fetch in the yard. She has such a happy playful personality. Her silly play behaviour will make you laugh every time. Cinnamon gets very, very excited about other dogs. She sometimes still barks at a dog while out on a walk. She gets excited when she sees another dog so we have been working on this with her. She has been improving day by day. It will be necessary for her future owners to continue this training. Her owners will need to be experienced with leash excitability in a dog as well so she is not a suitable dog for a first time dog owner. If you have rules about walking and adhere to them, her walks are very enjoyable. It is easy to walk with her even when other dogs are also out for a walk. Make sure to keep a positive rapport with her on walks, but also be strict about her walking behaviour. Cinnamon is a very healthy, athletic, active dog and her forever home must be up to the task of keeping her exercised. Successful owners will ideally enjoy playing retrieve with Cinnamon, go for walks and take her to obedience training. Cinnamon is not a suitable dog for someone who just wants to take their dog for a walk once a day and not much else. Cinnamon loves people so much. She is such a people pleaser that doing things with people makes her very happy. She loves to go for car rides and travels very well in the car. She is quiet and relaxing in the vehicle even for long car rides. She absolutely loves playing with a ball with her people and is happily entertained playing fetch for quite a while. She is a very happy and playful dog and always up for a good time. But she can also chill in the home with you and loves affection and cuddles. She is up for whatever you are up for! Cinnamon loves people very much but because of her happy enthusiasm we would recommend a family with older kids. With her high energy and stimulation levels, she needs to be in a home with no other animals. She loves having a fenced yard so she can run around and play. She is such a fun dog to have around. She is always happy, very affectionate, loyal and loving. There has not been a person yet she has not loved to be around. We want to make sure that this big sweetheart makes her way to a great adoptive family that will take care of her for the rest of her life.
