Story
Pongo / Neutered Male / 6 Months / Lab mix? / Dogs: Yes / Cats: Yes / Kids: 13+ / Location: East Garafraxa Meet Pongo (again!) This handsome boy was adopted earlier this year but sadly returned just a month later. Pongo is a truly special pup who needs an equally special home to match. At just 6 months old and 45 lbs, Pongo is full of energy, smarts, and heart. While we were told he might be a Border Collie/Lab mix, we aren’t entirely sure, what we do know is that he won’t get too much bigger and that he’s 100% adorable. Pongo can be nervous in new situations or around unfamiliar people, but he’s been working so hard to overcome this. He even spent several weeks with our friends at stylek9dogtraining, where he learned amazing skills that will set him up for success. His future family will continue his journey with a few follow up classes, already covered in his adoption fee, because consistency is key for this sensitive boy. What makes Pongo amazing: Walks beautifully on leash, calmly and politely (even sitting at stops!) Crate trained & fully housebroken Snuggle king who always wants to be near his people Playful, smart, and food motivated, he learns fast! Loves doggy friends, is good with cats, and would thrive with or without another dog in the home Because of his nervous nature, Pongo would do best with older, dog savvy kids. A yard to run, play, and chase squirrels would be a dream for him. To help him settle in, Pongo will even come with his special “place bed” included in his adoption fee, we want to give him every chance to succeed. Pongo is sweet, loving, and so ready for a family who will understand his past and nurture his bright future. Could that be you? https://forms.gle/gMSrMCVFqQ3fb5gN8

Hello! My name is Mikka!I`m a sweet and gentle girl who can be skittish at times. I take a little bit of time to warm up to new people. I enjoy playing with toys and would love a home where I will get lots play time and outdoor adventures! I might chew things in the house if I`m bored and have pent up energy. No need to worry though, if you provide me with good physical and mental stimulation, I`m the best girl! I am very snuggly and want to make sure my humans enjoy doggy snuggles!MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…CHILDREN: Teenagers should be fine. No young children given I can be timid.OTHER DOGS: Yes, with a well-matched dog. I enjoy chasing and running but may not enjoy rough and tumble puppy energy.CATS: No, given my prey drive.FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: Yes, if you have some experience with dogs and recognizing nervous body language.FENCED-IN YARD: Not necessarily.HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: Given I can be skittish, busy apartment buildings or those where I’d need to take an elevator wouldn’t be ideal.SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: Not necessarily.SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME…ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium. HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes.If you think I could be a good match for your home, click the “Adopt Me” button to apply!

Zaydi's Story Meet Zaydi: Your New Best Friend and Professional Cuddler If you’re looking for a "Velcro dog" who will loyally follow you from room to room and shower you with affection, look no further than Zaydi. This sweet, loving soul is the definition of a companion dog—she is happiest whenever she is right by your side. Zaydi was very loved by her previous family who surrendered her due to her owner having a serious back injury and no longer able to care for her. It is an honour to be entrusted with her care. Zaydi is 7 years young, and a lean 60lbs. Like with any dog, she will require a family who will be able to care for her for the rest of her life, including lifting into the vehicle or assisting her on stairs, if ever needed, as she becomes older. Personality & Temperament Zaydi is an incredibly eager-to-please girl with a heart of gold. Whether she’s curling up on the couch for a movie marathon or sleeping soundly in the big bed at night, her goal is simple: to be near her people. She has a medium energy level—she’s always up for a 20-minute stroll or a play session in the yard, but she’s equally talented at the art of relaxation. Life in the Foster Home Social Butterfly: Zaydi is a friend to everyone she meets! She is great with new people and has shown no concerning behaviors when meeting other dogs. She currently enjoys playing with her canine foster siblings, large Show more How To Adopt Zaydi was listed as Adoptable by Hobo Haven Pet Rescue How can I adopt Zaydi? Our foster families are within 45 mins of our location. Adoption fees vary depending on the age of the dogs and medical expenses incurred. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, 4DX & blood testing, deworming, dentals if needed, medical treatment or surgery for any concerns, and parasite treatment as needed. For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of: Adoption Application Instructions Please read the following carefully before beginning your application. Our Screening Process: Step-by-Step Please only apply if you are willing to complete every step of this process. 1. Fill in the Canine Adoption Questionnaire below https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application Form Completion: All questions must be answered for the form to submit. If a question or date does not apply to you, simply enter "N/A." 2. Veterinary Quality of Care Check We require a history of how your past or current pets were cared for. These files are handled in complete confidence. Once reviewed, they are immediately destroyed. Action: If we feel you are a match we will reach out and ask you to contact your vet clinic and ask them to forward a copy of your pet’s medical history to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com. 2. Virtual Home Inspection & Interview If the vet check is successful, we will schedule a Zoom home inspection and interview. Requirements: All household members must be present. Format: This must take place during daylight hours using a mobile device so you can show us both your indoor and outdoor living areas. 3. In-Person "Meet and Greet" If the Zoom inspection is approved, we will schedule an in-person meeting in St. Jacobs. If the zoom inspection goes well, our next steps would be 1) an in person meeting with yourselves, your dogs, myself (Chris-Founder/President of Hobo Haven Rescue) and the dog/their foster family in St Jacobs to of course meet in person and see if everyone feels it is a good match Weather permitting we do have a fully secure fenced in area for dog intros and less formal meetings 4. Training Commitment For most of our dogs, we require proof of registration with an approved, positive-method trainer before the adoption is finalized. This ensures a smooth transition and long-term success. 5. Final Adoption Meeting Once proof of training registration is received, we will then coordinate a second and final meeting in St. Jacobs to complete the adoption! A Note to Applicants: We realize our process is thorough and may seem intimidating. However, these dogs rely on us to be their advocates. Our goal is to ensure every dog finds an ideal match and a forever home where they will receive the highest quality of care. Hobo Haven is based in St. Jacobs, Ontario. We do not export or adopt to families outside of Ontario.

Story
Bridgette is a 3-year-old, medium-sized mixed breed (possibly a Lab cross) with a sweet soul and an easygoing nature. She came to the shelter as an unclaimed stray, but it’s clear she’s ready to leave her past behind and start a new chapter with a loving family. This lovely girl is well-mannered in her kennel, truly enjoys human company, and greets everyone she meets with enthusiasm and affection. Bridgette has also enjoyed a playful romp with a male dog and may do well in a home with another friendly canine companion. Overall, she seems to be a fairly even-keeled, well-tempered dog who could fit nicely into many different home environments. Because her history is largely unknown, especially around young children, a home with older kids or adults may be the best match for her. Bridgette appears to have had a litter in the past, and now it’s her turn to be doted on and cared for. Bridgette would benefit from obedience classes to help her build new skills and polish her manners. She’s very food-motivated, making positive reinforcement training a great and fun way for her to learn. She would love daily neighborhood walks or weekend hikes—especially fitting, since she was found near the beautiful Albion Falls! If you’re looking for a friendly, affectionate, and adaptable companion, Bridgette might just be your perfect match. She’s patiently waiting to find a forever family to share her happy, balanced spirit with for the rest of her life. Please complete an adoption application: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Bridgette has an appointment to be spayed on January 8th. She will be ready for her forever home after she has recovered from this surgery. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. *Please note: we only adopt within Ontario

🖤ADOPT PANDORA🖤 F | 6Y | 23 KG | Mixed breed | Spayed | UTD on shots | Housebroken | Crate Trained | Good with dogs | Cat tested | Not kid tested | Fostered in London A gift from the Gods themselves. The jewel that lights up every room she is in. Our Pandora will open your world up with newfound joy, adventure and tons of cuddles! You know what they say, girls just wanna have fun and Pandora is no exception! So take her on walks or show her some cool tricks, she is here for a good time! She may seem a little reserved when you first meet her, but after some time, she can come out of her shell and make new furry and human friends! Her sweet curiousity leads her to want to make doggie friends, and with the right support and introductions, she can develop great canine companions. With new humans, Pandora would love it if you introduced her to your friends so she can warm up to them and make them her friends too! Noises can be a bit scary for Pandora, so it is something to be mindful of as you guys work together to help her adjust to her new life. She is also a flight risk within the first couple of weeks, meaning even in a fully enclosed yard and in the house - it's important to keep that leash on until she's fully decompressed and settled in. As with any dog, Pandora would greatly benefit from proper structure, boundary setting, and lots of love and patience. She is an absolute gem and is looking for the right family to help her sparkle to the max!

Story
Nugget / Female / Approx. 1 Year / 20lbs / Mini Lab Mix / Good with Dogs / Untested with Kids / Good with Cats / From Mexico / Fostered in Toronto The day Nugget ran up from the street, tiny, weak, and covered in ticks, she was simply looking for someone to help her. After testing positive for parvo, Nugget spent months recovering in quarantine. Even during that difficult time she was incredibly gentle and quiet. Because she had to stay in the cat area while healing, she became known for curling up on the cat condo and sharing space peacefully with the cats. Today, Nugget is the complete opposite of that fragile little puppy. She’s joyful, playful, and absolutely full of love. Nugget has happy puppy energy and truly loves everyone and everything. She is incredibly affectionate and thrives on attention, happily soaking up pets and cuddles whenever she can. When her people come home or start the day with her, she greets them with pure excitement. With familiar people, Nugget is friendly, easygoing, and very loving. She simply wants to be close to her humans and be part of whatever they’re doing. With new people she may be curious at first, but it doesn’t take long before she’s coming back for more pets. Nugget loves other dogs and enjoys playing with them. She currently lives alongside another dog and does well, and with time she will likely become even more playful with canine friends. She previously lived alongside cats and did very well with them. She may occasionally chase or try to play a bit enthusiastically, but overall she is comfortable sharing space with feline companions. Nugget hasn’t met children yet, but based on her friendly and happy personality she is expected to do very well with respectful, dog-savvy kids. She enjoys walks, exploring the world, and saying hello to people and dogs she passes. Nugget is still working on her leash skills but is improving every day. Nugget is a joyful, adaptable dog who could likely thrive in many types of homes. She would love a family who can give her plenty of attention, playtime, and affection. A yard would be a wonderful bonus for this playful girl. If you’re looking for a happy, loving dog who will fill your home with energy, cuddles, and a wagging tail, Nugget may be your perfect match. Prior to coming into care, Nugget tested positive for Ehrlichia. Ehrlichia is a tick borne disease that stays in the bloodstream for many years. A CBC is performed to see if there is an active infection. Nugget's CBC came back indicating that there is no active infection. Ehrlichia positive dogs may develop chronic kidney disease at some point of their life. It is recommended that any dog that has tested positive for Ehrlichia have annual wellness blood work along with a 4dx blood test once a year unless clinical signs arise. If clinical signs of Ehrlichia arise bloodwork should be done sooner. Also note that she should have pre-op blood work including a CBC and platelet count before any surgery or dental extractions. (due to a risk of low platelet count). If you’re interested in adopting Nugget, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Nugget’s adoption fee is $850.
