**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Baxter. I'm about 2 1/2 yeas old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was picked up by the pound in March after my owner had been incarcerated and there was nobody to care for me. I tested positive for heartworm and I just tested negative for microfilaria and negative for heartworm on a 4dx test, so I am finally all clear! Anyone that has ever dealt with a heartworm dog knows that there is a strict exercise restriction in place during treatment. Needless to say the last 6 months have been no fun between the heartworm treatment itself and the restrictions. Now I can run in the play yards, go for nice long walks and play play play!! I need to find a family that will keep up with my basic vet care. I get heartguard the 1st of every month and should remain on heartworm preventative for the rest of my life to keep me from ever needing horrible heartworm treatment again. I am a wonderful boy. I was a housedog prior to my arrival at the pound, but do to restrictions and the past nearly 8 months being here at the pound, I might need some refreshers with potty habits. I am a very sweet boy! I love people and I have been good around other dogs and the kitties here at the pound. If you're looking for an excellent dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Celeste. I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 45 lbs. My friend Comet and I were found as strays in the Salineville area and we were picked up by the pound after running at large for multiple days. I have been a very sweet girl with all of the people I've met here at the pound and I am very affectionate. I am very dramatic about needing more belly rubs. I'll show my whole belly and stare at you longingly. I'm okay with most of the other dogs and I share a kennel here with Comet. I am quite a bit on the dominant side, though and I do best with male dogs that are submissive to me. I may need a little work with potty training, but seem to try to keep my kennel clean for the most part. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Comet. I'm about 2-3 years old and I weigh about 45 lbs. My friend Celeste and I were found as strays in the Salineville area and we were picked up by the pound after running at large for multiple days. I am a very energetic and goofy little guy. I can be a bit aloof and untrusting of new people. I seem to have possibly been abused because it takes me quite a while to be comfortable with new people touching me in certain places, such as my legs, tail region and underside. Once I know and trust you, I will let you give me belly rubs and I give love nibbles on your fingers while we play, but it can take me some time before I am comfortable enough to do this with you and if I feel cornered, I will get snappy. I have been good around most of the other dogs that I've met here at the pound and I let my friend Celeste push me around, but meet and greets are always recommended. I may need a little work with potty training, but I do try my best to keep my kennel clean at night. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me.
