**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Baxter. I'm about 2 1/2 yeas old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was picked up by the pound in March after my owner had been incarcerated and there was nobody to care for me. I tested positive for heartworm and I just tested negative for microfilaria and negative for heartworm on a 4dx test, so I am finally all clear! Anyone that has ever dealt with a heartworm dog knows that there is a strict exercise restriction in place during treatment. Needless to say the last 6 months have been no fun between the heartworm treatment itself and the restrictions. Now I can run in the play yards, go for nice long walks and play play play!! I need to find a family that will keep up with my basic vet care. I get heartguard the 1st of every month and should remain on heartworm preventative for the rest of my life to keep me from ever needing horrible heartworm treatment again. I am a wonderful boy. I was a housedog prior to my arrival at the pound, but do to restrictions and the past 8 months being here at the pound, I might need some refreshers with potty habits. I am a very sweet boy! I love people and I have been good around other dogs, but would do best in a home without kitties. If you're looking for an excellent dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Pierce. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 53 lbs. I was found as a stray in the East Liverpool area and I was brought into the pound. When I first arrived, I had fleas pretty bad and I had very sore, infected ears. I've had both issues treated since my arrival and I am more than ready to find a new family to love. I am a very sweet and affectionate boy. I can be a little on the timid side at first when I meet new people, but after a short time, I love to snuggle and get forehead kisses. I have been good around the other dogs that I've met since coming into the pound and I didn't pay any mind to the cats int the office here at the pound. I am very clean in my kennel and I appear to have been a house dog before making my way here at the pound. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Juliet. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 41 lbs. I was seized by the pound, along with 9 other dogs and my 2 puppies, after being found living in very neglectful conditions in the very cold winter weather. Most of us didn't even have shelter and those of us that did had less than ideal shelter and living conditions. I was tied in a dilapidated old shed and my babies were there with me. We were all struggling to stay warm and none of us had water or food. I have not been a house dog in the past, nor have I ever been well socialized. I am a very sweet, but I am afraid of most everything. I am starting to come around slowly but surely. I do love other dogs and another friendly, well socialized dog would greatly help me. I am a little timid at first when meeting new people, but I am a very sweet girl and I warm up to you quickly. I LOVE to snuggle into you and get attention and affection. I will need a patient new family that can give me the basic training and socialization I need. In addition to basic training, I will also need work with potty training. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. Story
Hi!   I’m Zoey!! I’m supposed to tell you about myself…hmmmm where to start?!!! Well, I found myself at the local dog pound for a few months in 2024.  While the people there were super nice to me, I’m so happy to be in my foster home.  I got to go there on New Years Eve and had a GREAT time ringing in the New Year in a home.  I got to go to the vet, at which they said I was a VERY sweet girl.  The vet thinks I’m about 5 years old, but I certainly don’t act my age.  I’m healthy, spayed, and fully up to date on my vaccines & preventatives.  I LOVE to play with my foster dog cousin that is only about 4!  We have so much fun together.  And I LOVE to run around in the yard too!  Once I’m tired out from play, I like to just chew on a bone or take nice LONG naps!  Oh yeah and I love to cuddle too! In addition to my foster cousin, I currently live with 3 other dogs (seniors), 2 cats (whom I am great with!), and my foster mom & dad.   I haven’t been around kids really, but I’m pretty sweet to everyone I meet.  Just love attention and TREATS, which I take very gently!! I am housebroken, sleep well in my “room” (crate), and don’t even mind car rides! I’m pretty much a happy and fun-loving girl that would love a home and family to call my own!!  Our adoption process starts with our application. Once the application is approved, a member of Legacy will contact you to set up a home visit. The home visit usually last 1-1.5 hours and is to make sure our dog and any current dogs/cats are getting along, as well as both of us agreeing it's a fit. At this time the adoption fee is due, and begins the 2 week trial. We will check in during the 2 week trial. If it's not working, our dog is returned to the foster home and all except $100.00 {$75 if Senior} of the adoption fee is returned. At the end of the 2 week trial, you decide if you will finalize the adoption - if finalized, the Adoption Contract is signed and all medical records are turned over to you. If at any time you need to rehome the dog it contractually needs to be returned to Legacy Dog Rescue. ADOPTION FEE's: Puppies under 6 months:  $199.00 Adults:  $150.00 Seniors (over 7 yrs):  $99.00 If you are interested in one of our dogs please fill out an application: https://form.jotform.com/193425528783165
