Story
Honey is a beautiful 3-year old female Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on February 17, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Waterford Road (near Lang Farm Road) in the Marietta Ohio area. Honey has a tan short smooth coat, a long tail, and a lovely face with pale brown eyes, a liver-colored nose, and short floppy ears . This young lady is understandably nervous about being in an unfamiliar place with so many other dogs and people that she does not recognize. So we took her preliminary photos where she was most at ease (in her kennel on nice soft blankets and enjoying a 'good girl' treat). Honey weighs 42 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Honey will be held for three days so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Since Honey was not reclaimed, we look forward to taking more flattering outdoor photos of this beautiful girl when she is a bit more relaxed.

Honey has a tan short smooth coat, a long tail, and a lovely face with pale brown eyes, a liver-colored nose, and short floppy ears. This young lady was understandably nervous about being in an unfamiliar place with so many other dogs and people that she didn't yet realize were her new best friends, so we took her preliminary photos in her blanket-filled kennel where she felt most at ease ... And they were cute pictures. We were thrilled to be able to take outdoor photos of Honey on February 23rd when she was ready to put on her happy face and accompany HSOV Kennel Tech Kathryn (Kat) Rea for glamour pictures. What a difference those few days made in Honey's demeanor .. Honey was more at ease with Kat by her side, and she responded well to Kat's slow, gentle touch. Honey was walking fairly well on a leash that afternoon. Honey weighs 42 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Honey was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this beautiful girl. Honey will be spayed in the near future and will be looking for a fabulous home.

Story
Knox (fka Hagrid) is a handsome one-year old male Mastiff/Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on February 24, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who had found him on Boulevard Drive in Belpre Ohio the preceding evening. Hagrid was wearing a collar but, unfortunately, there was neither an ID tag nor a dog license tag on his collar ... And he was not microchipped. Hagrid has a black short smooth coat with white markings on his chest, white toes on his paws, a long tail, and a gorgeous face with dark brown 'teddy bear' eyes, a chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears, This big guy has a sweet, easygoing personality. Hagrid was quite the gentleman when HSOV Kennel Tech Kathryn Rea (Kat) gave him extra TLC while he posed for preliminary photos in front of his kennel in the Holding Area (where new intakes are housed). Hagrid appeared to be ok other dogs in nearby kennels (who were constantly 'talking' to him). Hagrid just wagged his tail and made a quiet effort to make their acquaintance/ Hagrid weighs 76 lbs and is fairly strong on a leash (merely because of his large size). He was a pushover for 'good boy' treats when we were enticing him to go back in his kennel, and he quickly followed the scent of bacon strips which were waiting for him atop his soft pile of blankets. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Hagrid will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Hagrid went home with a foster family on February 28, 2024 who planned to adopt him after he was neutered .. But Hagrid did not get along with the foster family's dog, so Hagrid (now known as Knox) came back to HSOV on March 15, 2024 and is available for adoption. Knox went home with a foster family on December 24, 2024 who plans to adopt him after he is neutered. Knox was returned to HSOV on December 27, 2024 due to an unfortunate incident and was placed on a mandated 10-day bite quarantine. Update: Knox was neutered on January 13, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Hoss is a handsome 2-year old male Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on April 30, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who had picked him up on Brush Road in the Marietta Ohio area. Hoss was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. This good-looking boy has a black short smooth coat with a patch of white on his chest, white toes on his paws, a long tail, and a sweet face with dark brown eyes, a splash of white on his muzzle, and large floppy ears. These photos of Hoss were taken on the afternoon on May 3, 2024 when HSOV Volunteer Emma Dahlgren accompanied him outdoors during a break in the rain which had deluged the mid-Ohio Valley during the past week. Hoss was a well-behaved boy who looked to Emma for guidance and (literally) leaned on her for reassurance (smile). Hoss weighs 58 lbs and walked fairly well on a leash for Emma. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Hoss was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership .. But nobody called or came looking for him.

Story
Nasa is a handsome one-year old male Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV late in the afternoon on July 9, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found him on River Road in the Lowell Ohio area (one mile towards Devola). Unfortunately Nasa was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. This good-looking young man has a sleek black coat with a narrow white stripe on his chest, a long tail, and an adorable face with dark brown eyes, a black button nose, and short floppy ears. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver for accompanying Nasa for outdoor photos shortly after his arrival. Nasa was initially a little frightened when he was led into our shelter (and who could blame him since he had no idea what was happening and didn't realize everyone was doing their best to keep him safe and reunite him with his family). Nasa weighs 47.8 lbs. He made a noble effort walking on a leash for Emily and loved attention from our kennel techs when he spent a little time in the lobby receiving attention from them. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Nasa will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership.

Story
Honey is a beautiful 3-year old female Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on February 17, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Waterford Road (near Lang Farm Road) in the Marietta Ohio area. Honey’s very favorite person (HSOV Volunteer Kathy Wilhelm) has faithfully been walking- and spending time with Honey for many months and has naturally fallen in love with her (and vice versa). We took the opportunity to take new photos of Honey on September 10th 2024 when Kathy & Honey were about to embark on that day’s adventure. Honey weighs 42 lbs and walks gently on a leash. Kathy noted that “Honey” is the absolute perfect name for this sweet dog since it describes her overall persona. Honey loves ‘good girl’ treats and belly rubs. She appears to prefer human female friends rather than males. Honey can be a little picky, but once you are her friend .. it is for life (Smile). Honey weighs 42 lbs and walks gently on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Honey was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this beautiful girl. Honey will be spayed in the near future and will be looking for a fabulous home. Like many dogs, Honey appears to be selective about which dogs she accepts into her circle of friends, so we always recommend a meet-and-greet if you have other dogs in your home. We aren't sure yet how Honey feels about cats but can test her with shelter cats who are ok with dogs.

That one was too hot, and that one too cold, but Goldie is... just right! Goldie is a lab retriever mix looking for a perfect home. This girl is house trained, quiet and very cuddly. She does not appear to be destructive if left outside of a crate, but has also been willing to spend short periods in one in her foster home. Goldie walks well on a leash and seems content to hang out next to her people on the couch. She rides well in a car and loved meeting new people! Interested in adoption or fostering?
