If you qualify and are interested in participating in this program, please fill out an application online and type "SENIOR" after your name. **   Karlach has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is a common hormone imbalance in dogs and is usually caused by inflammation or shrinkage of the thyroid gland. This progressive destruction of the gland leads to diminished thyroid function and insufficient levels of thyroid hormones. She is on daily medication to manage this. The cost is about $23 a month. **   Because of her history of being untreated, she would benefit from a daily skin support supplement, like a fish oil and super EPA. This is over the counter. She is a senior lady, and a large breed dog, she would benefit from a joint supplement daily, like Dasaquin. This is over the counter. **  Karlach has lenticular sclerosis. Lenticular sclerosis is the medical term for a bluish/white, transparent haze that develops in the lens of the eye in middle-aged to senior dogs. It is considered a normal change in the lens associated with aging and is observed as a cloudiness or bluish discoloration on the pupil. Vision does not appear to be significantly affected in dogs diagnosed with lenticular sclerosis. This condition is not the same as cataracts. Cataracts are  opaque white and represent a change in the ability of light to penetrate to the retina causing diminished vision. **  Dog Selective (liking some dogs but not others) Karlach is waiting for someone to take her home to make their home a better place   Foster Home Feedback  ** Dog Selective 2/25/2025 Foster Feedback: We have had Karlach for over a year now. She is settled in great. She recently completed the Over-Reactive Rover class from Down Dog Studio, and we are working with her every day to continue her training. She is very food motivated. Speaking of which, she is down to 62lbs! Karlach just had her annual thyroid panel testing done, and she is doing amazing on her same dose of Thyrosin ($23/mo). She still gets a bath monthly to help her skin feel good, and is obsessed with bath time (because it's treat time!). She is obsessed with her toys, and hoards them in her bed like a goblin - and can sometimes act like a goblin when another dog gets too close to her hoard. She does redirect very nicely. Karlach met a baby recently, and was obsessed! She was very gentle, and definitely curious. Since it's been so cold, we have some coats for her to wear, which she does just fine wearing. We even have some pajamas for her to wear on those very cold nights when the house gets drafty. Because of her arthritis, she doesn't love having her legs pulled through clothes, but the easy to put on types are just fine. She is definitely slowing down, but is very happy and healthy, and loving life. We are all itching for nice weather and grass, as Karlach loves to just lay outside and enjoy the sunshine. Please consider this old gal, she's just looking for a retirement home to live out her golden years. Karlach would love a soft place to crash, lots of stuffies, a nice cozy bed, and preferably no stairs. She is really great, and very loving. She loves a good ear scratch, and will sing to you when it's just right.   06/22/2024 Foster Feedback: Karlach is doing great! With her diet, medications and supplements, she is down 15lbs, her thyroid levels are great, her skin is looking great, fur is regrowing, and she's even feeling good enough to run. We found this old lady loves fetch! We have a bin full of tennis balls that she loves to dig through to find just the right one. She even sleeps with her tennis ball. She walks great on a leash with an EZ harness. We're still working on riding in the car nicely, but she enjoys the fresh air when she does. She does take medicated baths every two weeks for her skin. We've got a lickmat suctioned to the bathtub wall that keeps her happy and occupied while we wash and scrub her. She's even started hopping in the tub willingly because she knows it's treat time! A bonus to her thin fur is that she dries quickly!   Karlach is still very much a trash dog, so we are working on getting her kennel trained. We have learned to lock up the dog food, as she has figured out how to open doors with door knobs. Smart girl! If anything, she's trained US to keep our house tidy, so there's nothing to get into.  She gets along with with our feral chihuahuas, and smaller dogs haven't been an issue. But she would benefit from slow intros to new dogs, especially at her own house. Most of the time, she doesn't care about the dogs, only the new people!   She is very much enjoying her retirement life, and really loves a comfy dog bed or couch to lounge on. She loves stuffed toys and attacking the squeaker. She would make a great companion for someone looking for a lower-energy pal, who still enjoys walks and throwing a ball for her to casually fetch. She loves just hanging out in the backyard with us and loves basking in the sun.   Overall, she's a great old lady. Apply today for your new best pal!  3/15/24 Foster Feedback: Meet Karlach (car-lack)! She's a senior lab who, like most of us who are aging, has some thyroid issues. Because of this, she has an almost completely bare belly and tail, and thinning hair. She has it well managed with a reasonable-cost medication. She also takes skin and joint supplements, as she is aging gracefully. It doesn't make her any less lovable though! She is also currently overweight, but we are working hard to get her to a healthy weight.  Karlach is a big lover and has discovered the benefits of couch snuggles. She is potty trained, and knows sit, stay, and shake. We're still working on leash skills and traveling in the car, but a little patience and routine will definitely help. She loves being outside. We have a large, fenced-in backyard that she loves to run around and frolic in the snow. We have not kenneled her, but she does fine in a closed bedroom while we're gone. We have discovered she is a trash dog and loves to counter-surf, which is why she is contained while we're gone. Karlach sleeps on a dog bed in our bedroom at night, and does just fine! She has an adorable howl she lets out when she's excited. I love coming home and being greeted this way.    Karlach would love a comfy retirement home. She mostly sleeps all day, but has her moments of energy. She does great with our small dogs, and has been iffy with bigger dogs. She lived with cats before coming into rescue. She's a great old gal who will be a great dog for someone looking for a calmer companion. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org March 2, 2025, 7:30 pm

A Guide to Resource Guarding in Dogs."   Rigatoni is on a weight loss journey   Foster Home Feedback  2/17/2025 Foster Feedback: Quick update on Rigatoni! He is officially 86 lbs! Woohoo! He had roughly 16 more pounds to go to reach his goal! Rigatoni is just a rockstar at the slow feeder, which has really helped him enjoy his food. His “soft mouth” is steadily improving.  If you need to meet this cutie, he attends many adoption events! 9/27/24 Foster Feedback: Rigatoni has been doing great on his weight loss journey. We know he is under 100 lbs. He is such a happy tail-wagger that it was hard to get him to sit for long on the scale, but when he did, we only saw two numbers! Rigatoni recently had a birthday, turning 7 years old! On his most recent outing he walked down the runway at the Blu Water Creek Bash. He did an excellent job and enjoyed receiving loads of attention from the models!  Rigatoni hasn’t shown any resource guarding incidents lately. He does really well with redirection.  He is still is a cuddle bug and couch potato!  Foster Feedback 5/10/24: We’ve had Rigatoni since 3/24 and he’s adjusted well to our household - still working on shedding some weight. He is a silly, goofy boy with perpetual happy tail. Rigatoni loves attention & pets.  He knows sit and come and is working on stay.  He kennels well, and loves his ball or any toy he can hold in his mouth. Rigatoni is the Goodest boy! Foster Feedback 3/23/24:  Big Rig!  Such a lovely dog.  He is cat, big, and little dog friendly.  He is crated trained and didn’t have one accident.  He doesn’t jump, but he is overweight right now, so not sure if that will change.  He is so sweet, just followed me around. He went out by himself to go potty in my fenced yard.   We went for a walk and he is a big pup, so he can be strong, but with a front hook harness, he did well.  I have not heard him bark, but he gets these little mumbles when he is excited to see you. Rigatoni is a gem, if you are looking for a happy black bear, he is your pup.  **   Rigatoni is anaplasmosis and lyme positive. These are tick-borne illnesses, and he is currently being treated with Doxycycline. He LOVES to play with the playful pup in the house, He LOVES being outside in the snow, and he LOVES food. He has responded very politely to cues from our resident grump grandpaw. Having a fence for him has been a life saver. Pumpernickel is slightly obsessed with squirrels and bunnies. He's a big boy, very much of a puppy, and very strong.  When walking him, we are careful to hang on tightly if he spots wildlife. Pumpernickel  has been around a cat, which he ignored but did have lots of other exciting stimulation to choose from at that time. He is an angel going into the kennel when I leave the house, and falls right to sleep. Pumpernickel is  not much of a barker unless he's outside and spots wildlife he wants to chase. He is extremely food motivated which helps as we are working on manners. He tends to be a bit of a bulldozer and oblivious puppy as expected when he's caught up in play time with the other dogs. Pumpernickel  is potty trained and has not attempted to mark in our home. Pumpernickel  also really enjoys cuddling next to a human at bedtime. He's a great cuddler. Pumpernickel would love to have another dog to play with in his forever home.  ** Pumpernickel is Lyme disease positive. This is a tick-borne illness, and he is currently being treated with Doxycycline.    To learn more about Lyme disease in dogs, read here: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2102&aid=458To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org March 2, 2025, 7:30 pm

This means prior to coming into rescue his CCLs had torn and surgery was not performed, as a result his knees were stabilized by scar tissue. Because of this there is some arthritis present and he will benefit from a joint supplement and likely daily pain medications.  ** The large masses on Fettuccine have been tested by the vet and the result was they were benign fatty masses. Because of their size it was not recommended to try and remove them as it would be an invasive surgery for a benign mass.   Foster Home Feedback  ** Older, considerate children only 2/26/2025 Foster Feedback:  This sweet gentleman has been such a lovely houseguest for the past few weeks. Fettuccine is calm, quiet, affectionate, low-energy, and has excellent manners. He's never had an accident or even attempted to chew anything in the house, and he is perfectly happy to nap at home while I'm at work all day. I can trust him loose in the house when I'm gone, and when I come home, he gives happy little hippy-hops, wags his tail, and, after following me around for a little bit, goes back to his comfy spot for another nap. Fettuccine has quite a few nicknames--while we mostly call him Fetty, we sometimes call him Fetty Spaghetti and Fetty Alfredo. He's very happy to meet new people, and he's done very well when we've had friends over for dinner. Fettuccine is the type of guy who wants to live a quiet lifestyle. He gets easily startled by strange noises, and he tends to get nervous in new situations or if there's a lot of socializing and noise going on. He doesn't bark; he just tucks his tail up tight, hangs his head, and looks scared. For this reason, I think that Fettuccine would do best in a calm, quiet household with older kids.  Fetty would be the perfect dog for someone who just wants an easy-going friend to watch TV with at the end of the work day. I think he would do well in an apartment, and he gets along well with both cats and other calm, respectful dogs. He does have some arthritis, but he's been thriving on his daily pain meds and can play fetch, jump up on the couch, or walk up the stairs easily.  We're happy to keep hosting this sweet boy, but we'll also be happy for him when he finds his forever family! They will be very lucky. Foster feedback 2/7/25: Are you looking for an older gentleman with excellent manners? Do you need a dog who would do well in an apartment? Look no further, Fettuccine is your guy! Fettuccine has never had a potty accident, and I have never heard him bark inside. He does cry when I leave for work, but it lasts only about 20 seconds and then back to his nap he goes. Fettuccine gets along well with other dogs. He doesn't bark at our neighbor's dogs unless they bark at him first.  Fettuccine is an older guy. However, I think he would be fine as an only dog or with a similar mellow dog that just wants to co-exist. My lazy, respectful basset hound has been a good match for him.  Fettuccine doesn't mind if he doesn't go for a walk every day as long as he can go outside to potty and sniff around for a while. He is good on his leash and good about coming when he is called. He likes toys when I give them to him and might even play fetch with you. Fettuccine likes to throw his soft toys in the air and catch them too! Fettuccine would thrive in a calm, mellow household where he can soak up attention and live out his golden years. He is a wonderful dog with lots of love to give.   To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org March 2, 2025, 7:30 pm
