Story
Meet Thea! Thea is a young lab mix who’s been patiently waiting for her forever family—and we think it’s time someone sees how special she is. She’s gentle, a little shy at first, but once she trusts you, she’s full of love, snuggles, and playfulness. Thea adores other dogs and is both potty trained and crate trained. She loves to roughhouse with her foster friends, go for walks, and cuddle up after a good play session. While she’s still working on her leash skills and confidence in new situations, she’s smart, sweet, and eager to learn. Adult Size: Medium/Large Good with: Dogs Adoption Fee: $250 – includes spay surgery, microchip, and all age-appropriate vaccinations. Let’s not let her grow up in foster care. Story
Meet Felix! At 2 years and 8 months old and 58 lbs, this chocolate-brown sweetheart is the perfect mix of playful energy and irresistible snuggles. When he first heads out, Felix can be a bit high-energy, but once he’s with “his” person, he settles right in and becomes the ultimate Velcro dog. In the home, he loves nothing more than curling up beside you, drifting off into a cozy snore, and soaking in all the affection he can get. Felix is housetrained with a routine and is currently working on his crate training. He forms attachments quickly, so he can feel a little anxious when separated from his people, but with patience and consistency he continues to improve. Despite his size, Felix is incredibly gentle and has done wonderfully when meeting kids. Due to his size and strength, he'd likely be best suited for kids 8+ years old. He may occasionally pop up for a soft “hug,” but he redirects easily into a polite sit. This smart boy already knows “sit” and “shake/paw,” and he’s very treat-motivated—taking every treat with a gently. Once he’s fully comfortable, he enjoys toys and loves sniffing around outside. He sometimes needs a minute to warm up on walks because there’s so much to explore, but once he gets going, he finds his groove. Felix can be strong on leash at first, but with a harness he becomes much more manageable. Soft, sweet, and deeply loving, Felix is looking for adopters who can provide an active lifestyle, a little patience, and a whole lot of companionship. With the right people, he’ll flourish into the devoted, joyful family member he’s meant to be. Felix has had positive interactions with other dogs, but may initially come on a bit strong. He should do well with a playful canine siblings with slow intros. As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog to dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines. To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!

Story
Baxter is an almost 6-year-old, 90-pound Labrador Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix who embodies the definition of a gentle companion. With his expressive face, beautiful coat, and calm presence, Baxter is the kind of dog who makes every day feel a little more peaceful. He is house-trained, knows basic commands, and walks nicely on leash, making him an easy and enjoyable partner for daily strolls. Baxter is treat motivated and eager to please, which makes continued training both fun and rewarding. He’s playful and curious, enjoys exploring his surroundings, and has a mild interest in wildlife, but he’s just as happy to slow things down and soak in the moment. Baxter loves affection and will happily pause whatever he’s doing for head rubs and attention. He’s friendly with people and does very well in public, taking in new environments with a calm, steady demeanor. While he previously lived with another dog, he can be reactive to dogs in the shelter environment, so slow and thoughtful introductions are strongly encouraged. He would do best in a home without small children and may benefit from a fenced yard where he can stretch his legs, play a bit, and then be ready to enjoy relaxed walks or gentle hikes. More than anything, Baxter is ready to settle into a home where he can spend time with his people, enjoy quiet companionship, and receive all the affection he so generously gives in return. If you’re looking for a loyal, mellow, and loving buddy to share life with, Baxter is ready to fill that role beautifully.

Story
Dumont is a 1-year-old, 52-pound girl with a big heart and a deep love for her people. Once she has time to decompress and burn off some energy, she truly shines and shows just how wonderful she can be. On leash, Dumont walks without jumping and is very manageable. She tends to zigzag and happily carries a toy along the way, proudly showing it off, but she does not pull much. She rides beautifully in the car—initially unsure about getting in, but able to jump in and out on her own. Once settled, she sits or lays down and relaxes for the ride. Dumont enjoys exploring and sniffing, especially in low-stress environments, and loves carrying her toys wherever she goes. She knows “sit” and is learning additional cues like “down” and “get your toy.” She is very smart and quickly learns what is expected of her, especially when rewarded for keeping all four paws on the ground. She is treat motivated and takes treats gently. Affection is one of Dumont’s favorite things. She wants to be close to her person, soaking up pets and giving enthusiastic kisses. After exercise and mental stimulation, she happily settles into snuggle mode, curling up beside you with her head in your lap. Dumont adores meeting new people and is still learning polite greetings. She does best when visitors ask her to sit before offering attention or treats, and she improves quickly with consistency. She can sometimes be reactive to other dogs, so she will need continued training and thoughtful handling in those situations. In overstimulating or stressful environments, Dumont may become jumpy or mouthy, especially when first coming out of the kennel. Offering her a toy right away helps her redirect that excitement. As a young dog, she is still learning how to regulate her energy, but she responds well to verbal cues and guidance. Dumont would thrive in a calmer home that provides consistent structure, patience, and appropriate mental and physical outlets. With the right environment and continued training, she is an affectionate, intelligent companion who wants nothing more than to be close to her person and do well.
