Charlie is a very skittish guy whose past is a mystery but has been through a lot. He was trapped by our friends at Buddha Rescue and Recovery after panicking and bolting from a new foster home through another rescue and surviving on his own in the woods for 10 days... previous he had been a stray in NYC who was captured by animal control with a broken pelvis and suffering from heatstroke! He was covered in old scars and we aren't sure how long he living feral on the streets or if he's ever had a "real home"Charlie seemed to have never been on a leash before and would panic and try to escape or refuse to walk, but has been learning from following the other dogs and is starting to enjoy some walks. He is still very skittish with humans and hasn't learned to bond to people just yet but gets a little more comfortable each day. He is a major escape artist when he gets scared so will need a secure home with someone patient and committed to helping him feel safe and adjust to life in a real home for what may be the first time in his life. We think he is about 9 years old, 50lbs and a pit lab mix. Charlie's ideal home would be adults only and very quiet, patient people willing to accept him for who is and celebrate the little victories as he gains confidence. Poor sad Charlie Bear was adopted from Rbari 7 years ago and hates the return to shelter life after so much time in a home! His owner passed away suddenly and sadly no one was able to take him in. He's a friendly mid-sized 8 year old mixed breed, very sweet and gentle with people. Unfortunately he was never socialized properly with dogs and is reactive, especially toward larger ones he sees on walks. Dogs like Charlie are the hardest to find homes for and have the hardest time in a shelter setting surrounded by dogs when they fear and dislike other animals. One on one he's a great dog, just isn't a dog who can socialize with neighbors' and family members' dogs, go to dog parks, or be walked in areas with a lot of dogs. He would be perfectly content just hanging in his house and fenced yard with his people and going on walks in quieter areas. He's is actually an easy and lovable dog well-mannered gentleman in the right setting where he doesn't have to be stressed out worried about the threat of constantly seeing other dogs walking by. Willa is a senior Lab mix with kind eyes and a gentle soul. Willa’s world changed when her owner lost their home. For a time, Willa and the other family dogs lived with their owner in a car, doing their best to stay together, but it soon became too much and Willa was surrendered to one of our partner shelters. Willa was often fed whatever scraps were available and had little to no veterinary care. Despite it all, she remained gentle, trusting, and full of love. Today, Willa is safe and receiving the care she deserves. She is heartworm positive, but she is currently undergoing treatment and responding well. She is a resilient senior lady who loves a long walk, followed by some treats and a nice belly rub. Willa would be a great addition to any home. She gets along well with other dogs, is respectful of cats, and seems to love kids. Her calm, sweet nature makes her a wonderful companion for a family looking for a loving, low-key dog who just wants to be near her people. You just have to meet Alfie in person to appreciate just how uniquely adorable this guy is! With his huge boopable nose and Alf-shaped beak that looks too big for his body, he looks like a muppet or fraggle come to life. He's a 3 1/2 year old Goldendoodle, 58lbs full grown. Sadly he had a broken leg a couple years ago after being hit by a taxi cab when he had gotten loose in NYC, and it didn't heal properly and ended up needing to be amputated after the incident. He's been well adjusted to being 3-legged for a while and walks and runs so well it's hardly noticeable! He even jumps right in the car to go for rides. Our vet has him on fish oil just to help support his joints and extra care needs to be taken to make sure he doesn't get overweight or he will have more mobility issues as he ages. He's a gentle sweet soul, a little timid at first but warms up fast. He does NOT seem to have the non-shedding poodle type coat and would not be a good fit for allergy sufferers. He was quite matted when he was surrendered so has a bit of a funny haircut right now, and needs someone committed to regular brushing and grooming longterm.
