Story
This spirited pup is thriving in his foster home, where he’s shown a wonderful blend of playfulness and independence. Currently perfecting his leash skills, he would flourish in a fenced yard where he can explore. He’s kennel trained and sleeps outside at night, enjoying the company of the three other dogs in his household while also being able to entertain himself. Although he hasn’t been tested with cats or kids, his friendly nature suggests he could adapt well. A water enthusiast, he bravely tackled his first bath and is now ready to find his forever family for endless adventures and affection! Ryder is a Black Labl/mix who was was born approximately 8-6-23 and weighs 45 lbs. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed, tested heartworm negative and started on heartworm prevention. Daphne is a charming black lab mix who thrives on affection and companionship, always ready to shower her people with love and receive plenty of hugs in return. This sweet girl is an active, playful pup who enjoys chasing birds in the backyard, playing ball, and going on walks or runs. When it’s time to relax, Daphne is just as content snuggling on the couch or chewing on her favorite Nylabone. She’s great with kids, especially the two active boys (ages 8 and 10) in her foster home, and has the potential to be an excellent family dog. Daphne is eager to please and has shown quick progress with basic obedience training. Though she’s curious about other dogs, she hasn’t had the chance for a playdate yet, but with her loving nature, she’s sure to get along with other pets in the right environment. Daphne is crate trained but would happily share a bed if invited. She would thrive in a home with a fenced yard and would prefer to do her business there rather than on walks. While Daphne is a little apprehensive around some women and can be a bit nervous with quick movements. She’s a wonderful, loyal companion who’s ready to find her forever family. Story
Handsome Jack is a precious gentleman with a heart full of love. Found as a stray in Missouri, Jack was so sad in the shelter. He's already thriving in his foster home and is ready to find a family to call his own. Jack is a mellow guy who loves nothing more than lounging on the couch for a good nap. This gentle soul is housetrained and already knows some commands like "sit" and "shake." While he’s not overly energetic, he enjoys playtime with other dogs when the mood strikes. He’s also completely indifferent to cats, so he could easily fit into a home with feline friends. Jack is looking for a calm, loving environment where he can spend his golden years. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will stick by your side and make every day a little brighter, Jack might just be the perfect match for you! Jack is a Yellow Labrador Retriever/mix who was was born approximately 11-22-16. Orville is a sweet and playful puppy who loves nothing more than being part of the family. He’s laid-back and snuggly, but he also has plenty of puppy energy for running, playing, and exploring the outdoors. Orville is a total cuddle bug—he adores being held, melts into the laps of children, and never misses an opportunity to give puppy kisses. While he’s still learning the ropes of potty training and leash walking, he’s making progress every day. Like any puppy, Orville can get into mischief—he loves chewing on anything he can find and needs supervision or a safe space to play. He’s great with kids, gets along well with other dogs, and has met a cat (though the cat set some firm boundaries). Orville is working on not jumping up, especially with little ones, and can spend about four hours in his kennel before needing a potty break. He’s a happy, affectionate pup whose personality blossoms a little more each day, and he’s ready to bring love, laughter, and plenty of cuddles to his forever family. Wilbur is a happy, playful puppy with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He has a laid-back side but also loves to romp around and explore the outdoors. He’s great with kids and plays well with dogs of all sizes, though he can be a little rough with smaller pups. Wilbur is curious about cats but respectful when they set boundaries. Like any puppy, he’s full of energy and mischief—he’ll happily put anything he finds into his mouth, so he needs supervision or a safe space to play. He’s working on potty training, leash manners, and learning not to jump on people, especially kids, and he’s making great progress. Wilbur can spend about four hours in his kennel before needing a break and does well with some quiet time after play. While he loves to run and explore, he’s also happy to stop for snuggles and puppy kisses. Hunter is a 2 year old black lab. He likes attention and is very good with people and kids. Hunter can be aggresive towards livestock, dogs and other animals while he has been an outside farm dog which is why he is being rehomed. Would likely perform best as the only pet in household.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.River is a shy, but affectionate girl with gorgeous soulful eyes, who enjoys going on walks. She doesn't pull and walks great on the leash. She loves going for walks with the other dogs in her foster home. When River arrived, she was petrified and scared of just about everything. She has come a long way since, and is doing great. She gets lots of confidence from being around other the other dogs in her foster home, and having patient humans that are gentle and are able to allow extra time for regular activities , as everything takes a little bit longer with River, due to her being timid. That said, with love and encouragement, she is a fantastic girl who loves you and thrives. Her ideal home will be with a kind, patient adopter who is home a lot, who is willing to go slow with her, and allow plenty of time for her to adjust to her new home. River can be a little bit scared of traffic noises (cars, trucks, motorcycles driving by when she's in the backyard), but she now accepts them for the most part on walks…because she loves walks! River is a little nervous about riding in the car, but does OK and keeps getting better about it, especially when she has dog buddies with her along! River is lovely girl, very sweet, friendly and docile, never a hint of aggression. River is very food-motivated and loves chew toys, food and treats. She enjoys the company of other dogs, and really enjoys playing with other playful dogs. She LOVES to play chase in the backyard and do zoomies with the more playful dog in her foster home. She also likes to lay next to foster dad while he watches TV. She will sleep next to you in bed if allowed, or quietly in her crate if asked to. River is very social. She loves to be wherever you are in the house, usually under the table at your feet, or on the furniture if allowed. And she loves being around her doggy friends. River is shy but gets confidence from other dogs and follows their lead. Because of that, her ideal home will have a dog buddy.  River is a sweet loving girl who doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She loves all dogs, and every human she meets. Anyone that will give her a treat is her friend for life. Her favorite place to go is the local Hardware store because all the ladies know her, love her, and give her treats! River loves hugs, pets, belly rubs and any other human contact. She is docile and is the easiest dog ever to have her nails trimmed. She shows absolutely no resistance and would let you do anything to her. She is very trusting. She is a nice dog buddy and playmate to the other dogs in her foster home. If you are patient, and are looking for a happy, quiet, loving, active, sweet girl who just needs to be shown how to be more confident and realize that she is safe, River is the dog for you! The adoption fee for River is $275, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped.  Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption  for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply. Like any of our dogs,  River would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that her breed needs. Because of that, River’s ideal owners will have prior GSD, or other herding breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.November 9, 2024, 12:48 pm

The adoption fee is 350 + tax and covers age-appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and a spay/neuter.   Applications are typically worked in time stamp order based on date/time of submission.  If you have other dogs in your home, they must all meet the potential adoptee.  It may save you a trip to bring them with you when you visit, if you are certain you want to adopt a new family member.   *****We are currently operating by appointment only due to a shortage of personnel.   If you want to meet this pet, or are interested in adopting, please submit an inquiry or email to tchspapillion@gmail.com.  Someone from the rescue will contact you and/or your family and determine, on a broad level, whether you might be a fit for the animal.  If so, they will provide instructions for completing the application. Your application will be reviewed, and you will be contacted to set up a time to meet at the shelter or the foster home.   The introduction between you and the pet will be supervised by one of the dog counselors or the foster.   If all goes well, you can adopt during the same visit.  Please be sure to follow us on Facebook to learn more about Town and Country Animal Rescue and our mission.  ##2241911##
