Story
Meet Darcy! This sweet, playful girl was found as a stray by animal control and brought to the shelter, so her past is a bit of a mystery. What we do know is that Darcy is a friendly and affectionate dog who loves people and gets along well with other dogs-though she does need a little space and time to feel comfortable, especially if she's feeling cornered or pressured.Darcy is still a young dog with a lot of energy! She loves staying active and would be a great match for an adopter who enjoys going on walks, playing fetch, or spending time outdoors. While she may be a bit shy at first, once she bonds with you, she'll quickly become your loyal and loving companion.UPDATE: Darcy has been diagnosed with Addison's Disease, a condition that requires lifelong medication in the form of a monthly injection. With her treatment plan in place, Darcy's weight has stabilized, and she's back to being her happy, energetic self. Her electrolytes will need to be monitored periodically, but with proper care and medication, she's thriving! If you're an experienced adopter looking for a sweet, energetic dog who just needs a little extra care, Darcy could be the perfect match for you. With the right home and love, she will be a wonderful addition to your family.A little about Addison's Disease: Addison's Disease in dogs occurs when the adrenal glands stop functioning properly, preventing them from producing the hormones they need. This can affect the dog's stress response and electrolyte balance, and can be caused by a number of factors, including injury, tumors, medication, diseases, or immune-mediated disease. Story
Bruno is a fun-loving, energetic dog who is ready to find a home where he can truly thrive! This sweet boy came to the shelter after a bite incident involving a small child who was bothering him while he was in his crate. Bruno can be anxious around loud noises, especially things like children crying, so he'd do best in a calm, quieter home. With an experienced owner, Bruno can be a wonderful companion-especially in a home with older children who can respect his boundaries and with proper supervision.Bruno loves going for walks and is always up for a game of fetch. His playful, active nature makes him a great buddy for outdoor activities, and he'll happily run alongside you, tail wagging (with a cute curl that adds to his charm!). He has been through obedience training and is familiar with some basic commands, although he can be a little stubborn at times and may need an owner who is patient and consistent in guiding him.Bruno can be sweet and affectionate, and while he doesn't always like to be corrected, he's made great strides in learning how to interact with others in a positive way. He's an intelligent and loving dog who just needs a family with experience to help him feel secure and confident. If you're an experienced dog owner who can offer Bruno the structure and care he needs, he will reward you with loyalty, playfulness, and plenty of love. Come meet Bruno today-he's ready to be your best friend for life! Primary Color: Black Weight: 46.6 Age: 3yrs 8mths 3wks

Story
We have another very special pup to introduce you to and her name is Tart. We guess her to be a lab mix and she was born in our care July of 2020. She and her siblings were all very happy puppies, but as they became older and got closer to weaning, Tart began to lose the function in her back legs. She was born with a parasite called Neospirosis and was the only one in the litter affected by it. By the time our veterinarians figured out what was happening, we were able to get her treated to prevent further damage from spreading. Unfortunately, the joints in her back legs were already deformed. The muscles atrophied and paralyzed leaving her unable to walk. Eventually we were able to fundraise enough to get her a wheelchair, which helped her build the upper body strength needed to support herself. She doesn't walk like a normal dog, but she does an amazing job getting around on her own without anyone's help. Tart's drive to conquer her disability and enjoy life is so inspiring! She does enjoy going outside for short walks and knows the "sit" command. She loves to lay at your feet to be close to you. Tart gets along well with other dogs and absolutely adores attention and affection. Having been born at the beginning of the pandemic, she didn't get the stranger socialization she needed. She is a little slow to make new friends, but is easily won over with treats and love. All Tart has ever known is the shelter and she is a very special part of our Dogwood family. But she is so deserving of a family of her own! However, there are things that should be considered prior to her adoption. Tart isn't incontinent, is partially housetrained, and can certainly be completely housetrained with a schedule. She is not capable of getting in and out of cars on her own, or navigating stairs. She can use a dog door, if it's low enough, but it's still a bit difficult for her. If you're interested in meeting this special girl, or have any question as to meeting her care needs, please don't hesitate to ask! Story
Meet Louie, a lovable 5-year-old who is as sweet as he is spirited! Louie was found as a stray at Frankie & Louie's , and while we don't know how he ended up lost, he's unfortunately become a "forget-me-not" dog, having spent way too much time with us. He has been here since 2021, waiting patiently for a family that matches his needs and his boundless energy.Louie graduated from the Puppies for Parole Program at the Jeff City Correctional Center, where he spent time working on his manners and obedience skills. His trainers helped him polish his understanding of commands and improve his focus, teaching him cues like "kennel up," waiting at doors until given permission, and even the foundation for "settle" to help him manage his excitement. Louie really shined with a structured routine and daily training, and he would benefit from a home that can continue offering him this consistency. He's made great strides, but it's clear he thrives in an environment where he has clear expectations and boundaries.Energetic and playful, Louie has a deep love for fetch, making it the perfect way to burn off his excess energy! He's got a lot of drive and enthusiasm, and his favorite pastime is chasing after a ball in the yard. For Louie, regular physical and mental stimulation isn't just fun; it's essential to keeping him happy and well-balanced. A fenced yard would be ideal for him to safely indulge in his fetch sessions. He also has an "OCD-like" ball drive, meaning he can become quite fixated on this game, so it's a great tool for both exercise and enrichment.Louie does okay with dogs, though he is a bit selective about his canine companions, especially if toys are involved. His playful nature can turn possessive with toys, so a home where he's either the only dog or with another dog who can match his energy and respect his space during playtime would be best. Louie isn't a fan of cats, so he would do best in a feline-free home. One area Louie is still working on is his leash manners. He tends to pull when he first starts a walk, although he does settle into a looser leash once he gets going. This is likely another outlet for his high energy, and with continued practice, Louie will become an even better walking companion. His time in the training program helped introduce him to impulse control exercises, so he's learning to handle the anticipation and excitement that come with outings and leash time. With structure and consistency, Louie is a fantastic dog with a lot of potential. He would thrive with an experienced adopter who can provide him with the daily exercise and mental challenges he loves. In return, he promises to bring his joyful, playful personality into every moment and be a loyal, affectionate companion. Louie is waiting to share his heart with a family that can help him channel his energy in positive ways-if you're ready for an adventure-loving buddy who's all heart, come meet Louie! His adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor. Primary Color: Black Weight: 88.8 Age: 5yrs 5mths 0wks

Story
Meet Sunny, a vibrant and affectionate girl who was found as a stray, leaving her past a bit of a mystery. Despite this uncertain beginning, she has shown remarkable resilience and potential during her time with us.Sunny had the opportunity to participate in the Puppies for Parole Program, where she blossomed. Throughout the program, she received extensive training in house training, crate training, basic obedience, and leash skills. Her socialization skills have also improved significantly, making her a friendly companion for other dogs. While we haven't had the chance to observe her interactions with cats, we believe with proper introductions, she could adapt well.Sunny is an active girl with an enthusiastic spirit. She absolutely loves toys-her eyes light up at the sight of a squeaky or bouncy plaything! However, she's still learning which toys belong to her and which are the children's toys in her future home. With a bit of guidance, we're confident she'll get the hang of it.Unfortunately, Sunny has faced some health challenges. She has torn her ACL and is currently waiting for surgery. During a recent examination, the vet also discovered that her hip joints are malformed, which may require surgical intervention in the future. For now, we're managing her pain with medication, but it's important to note that Sunny's high energy level makes it difficult for her to rest as recommended.Despite her medical needs, Sunny's zest for life shines through. She thrives on outdoor playtime and would love a home that can provide her with gentle exercise, mental stimulation, and plenty of affection. Sunny is looking for a forever family who can offer her a loving environment, patience during her recovery, and a commitment to her ongoing care.If you're ready to welcome an active, loving companion into your home, Sunny could be the perfect match for you! She's eager to learn, play, and become a cherished member of your family. Primary Color: Tan Secondary Color: White Weight: 56 Age: 2yrs 0mths 1wks

Contact SaveMeAdoptMe@gmail.com or text or leave a message at 573-512-2102 for an application. The adoption donation of $175.00 covers spay / neuter, vaccinations, microchip, deworming, and current monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention. Bros Kevin and Andrew are wonderful, beautiful black lab mixes, presuming mix because they seem a bit more lanky, maybe some Great Dane. They are about 60 lb and I would expect them to be 70 to 80 lb when grown? I'm guessing them to have been born Feb 2024. They showed up on a property next to a busy, rural highway, so presume they were dumped. They are doing wonderful in the house with full-time doggie door access so they can go potty when needed. If no doggie door they would need time to adjust to a schedule and learn to ask to go out. They sleep in a crate at night. They still have puppy energy and really enjoy playing, especially with each other but seem like they will be relatively calm dogs. They love to snuggle and also for you to lay on the floor with them. They are very bonded, so if you want two beautiful additions they would be great together.

Story
Millie was surrendered to the shelter after someone had tried to help her by taking her in, but it just didn't work out in their home. She is friendly and playful, but apparently hasn't had any kind of training when it comes to living in a home, as she can be destructive if not crated/contained. She was around older children during the 3 weeks she was in a home and did well, running around the yard with the younger one. She will need an outlet for her energy and lots of time and patience to help her achieve her true potential and to be a wonderful companion for any family.
