Story
Bessie is the black lab in the photo. She is still hoping for a forever home for what remaining time she has left. Bessie is a LOVE BUG with humans. Just melts with attention. She's a food hound and can be mouthy when taking treats, but otherwise she's a gentle girl. Bessie is good with other dogs, but does need a slow intro period. She's just nervous and can bark/try to scare the other dog off at first. Once she knows they aren't out to attack her she's fine. Bessie is a sweetheart and is probably 12+ years old. She was heartworm positive and we did the slow treatment method. She also had a couple small lumps removed, they weren't cancerous. She can be stiff at times, but she's overweight and older so that's to be expected. Some arthritis medication as needed is a good idea. Bessie's adoption fee is waived. She just wants a home. At Autumn Acres Animal Rescue we believe each individual animal matters. We take in special cases some of which will stay with us as a sanctuary dog.If the animal is listed as a Socially Imperfect Dog this means they have special needs and special requirements for potential adopters. If the animal is listed as a Socially Imperfect RESIDENT this animal is NOT available for adoption and is one of our sanctuary residents. We list them on our sites because they still matter and they still need donations to help with their long term care.Check out our website for more information: http://www.autumnacres.org

Story
Socially Imperfect but now AVAILABLE - ROCKY Rocky was living a forgotten life. He was never allowed outside, not taken on walks, and never exposed to anything beyond the four walls of his indoor pen. He was surrendered to a vet clinic that had him for several months. They had a difficult time getting him adopted due to his shyness. He finally found a home and then he escaped immediately. He was so scared that he freaked out over the change and managed to slip his leash and was running scared. Volunteers and employees of the vet clinic were able to catch him and he was returned to the clinic. He was there for another several months. They weren't having any luck placing him and they were considering euthanizing him because of his fear/anxiety and unlikelihood of finding him a home. A rescue friend begged us to take this fellow and we did. The first few months were so scary for our friend Rocky. A leaf blowing on a tree would make him duck and run, but with time he has blossomed. Rocky meets new people and learns to trust so much quicker now. He is super affectionate, likes to jump up to give a hug, and loves to run around the yard with the other dogs. Rocky deserves a forever home for what time he has left. He'd appreciate a slow intro to his new home, but honestly he's doing SOOO much better with new things/new yards/new people he might settle in pretty quickly. Rocky's ideal home has understanding people willing to give him time to adjust to things and must have another happy/friendly dog for him to befriend. Rocky is at least 10 years old, he may be older. Please consider giving him a forever home!! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Virginia (virginiak@tarasdream.org) for more information about this pet. Please visit our web site at https://tarasdream.org/adopt to fill out an adoption application for this pet and for more info about our adoption process.   Meet Roxy!  Roxy is one unique girl who’s had a rough go being in our boarding facility for several years now, which is never good.  That said, her personality is still that of a smiley happy dog, who loves to go on walks with our volunteers.  Roxy was recently fostered in a home for the holidays where she did very well, having no accidents and behaving like an angel!  Roxy can be a little nervous and unsure of men, which just means men should give her time to familiarize with them, and respect her by moving slowly, and not acting like an idiot or aggressive (I’m a guy btw, I can vouch we are idiots at times).  Roxy needs someone patient, but once she connects with you, she will be your best friend and love you in the most special way.  If you think you are that unique opportunity for Roxy, she’s been waiting!    Approximate Birthdate:  Oct 2017 Adoption Fee: Roxy's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Kansas City Crime Lab! TARA's adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test (if age appropriate), heartworm and flea prevention, and deworming.  TARA's pets are all eligible for a TWO WEEK TRIAL. Due to the fact that many of our dogs come from the local city shelters, we do not know the background of many of them and therefore cannot always guarantee age or breed.  Size is subjective but we use the following guidelines: Small 1-20 pounds, Med 20-50 pounds, Large 50-80 pounds, Extra Large over 80 pounds.   For more information please fill out an application.     CONTACT INFO The Animal Rescue Alliance (TARA) Web site: tarasdream.org Adoption Information & Applications: https://tarasdream.org/adopt Upcoming Adoption Events: https://tarasdream.org/events Email: email@tarasdream.org November 4, 2024, 9:18 pm

Story
Atwood is a playful three-year-old pooch who would love a quiet home to call his own. He spent some time in a noisy shelter environment and is so over that noisy chaos! All those dogs yap yap yapping all the time and all he wanted was a nap, darn it. He loves to pose for pictures and play with his toys, especially his stuffies. He would also like some peanut butter, by the way. Atwood prefers a peaceful existence in an abode with no kids and no other pets, please. Most of all, though, Atwood wants to be with people who love him. He's such a lovely, sweet boy. Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 for more info. Atwood is in the KC metro, but transport is available to the right home, foster or permanent. #thepetconnection

Please visit our web site at https://tarasdream.org/adopt to fill out an adoption application for this pet and for more info about our adoption process.  Meet Sabrina!  Sabrina is a pittie mix, and she’s a firecracker of energy who would make for a sweet companion for an active household.  She walks well on a leash, and she does simmer down once she gets some energy out. Her energy level is in part because she’s in a boarding facility where her time to play is always limited, so we believe she would settle into a home environment very nicely. Sabrina’s good with most other dogs but would would need some time to get used to sharing her home with another pet as she hasn't had to since being in our program. She does have a tendency to chase cats, so her ideal feline friend would be an older, more laid back cat.  She’s friendly with everyone, but as she can be so excited at times, she would be best suited for a home without very small children that she might knock over with kisses!  Sabrina wants to remind you that it’s not easy to find a home when you’re a black dog, and she would love an opportunity to meet you and melt your heart.        Approximate Birthdate:  July 2022 Adoption Fee:  My adoption fee is sponsored by a generous volunteer! Story
Want a total goofball in your life? One who also is practically certified in snuggling? You need to meet Beau! This handsome boy is great on leash, willing to work for kibble and/or praise, AND does his business outside. He's a gentleman in the house when left alone. All good stuff, right? Here's more good news if you have another dog in your life: Beau generally loves other dogs and was best buddies with the one he lived with in his last home. Now, Beau is a chill pooch who prefers a low-traffic, adult-only home, so he's not a great fit for someone who has a mini Grand Central Station going on in their house, but otherwise he can be pretty flexible. In addition to adding a really great guy to their lives, whoever takes Beau will get ongoing training support from The Pet Connection! To foster or adopt Beau, please call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387. He's in the Kansas City metro but transport is available to the right home. #thepetconnection #AdoptDontShop #RescueDog #DogLover #KansasCityDogs #FosterDog #DogTraining #ChillPooch #GoodBoy #DogRescue
