You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Heath is fun-loving, HIGHLY intelligent, goofy, fully motivated, very affectionate, and exemplifies the term “go-dog.” Whatever you want to get out of the house and do, Heath wants to do it with you. He is fully obedience trained (including sit-stay, down-stay, heal, loose-leash-walking, “place,” etc…) and loves working with his humans. He is an expert at running agility courses and is always up for a new challenge. He is so smart and obedient, he almost became a search and rescue dog! If you want a buddy who can motivate you and keep up with you while you go for a long run, take a challenging hike, go for a bike ride, or just spend time with you outdoors, and then come home and snuggle with you on the couch, Heath is the right dog for you! Heath adores every person he has ever met, and he really enjoys a good cuddle and some love, and seeing him smile ear to ear will always brighten your day. He really enjoys playing fetch and tug-of-war. He loves training and working through his obedience cues. He is high energy and would love to live in a yard with a 6 foot fence so he can gallop and play around with you at home. Heath loves other dogs and would do best with another dog who is as playful and goofy as he is, he could also make a great only dog. He would love to live with a family with older children, a couple, or to be the best buddy to a single owner. Don’t let his middle-age fool you, Heath is a young dog in his heart, body, and soul. He is always ready to jump right into a new adventure with a big grin, high-hopes, and a whole heart. Everyone who works at the boarding facility where he currently lives, wants to take him home, he is just that charismatic and sweet. If you think Heath may be right for you, please come on by and see him. Don’t miss out on this one. He’d be so happy to meet you!   No cats!!!!  If you are interested in Heath, please contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com      *** Click here to sponsor this dog! *** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 5:13 pm

Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Poppy is a great all around family dog and one who you will be proud to call 'Our girl.' Her foster says 'She is a total sweetheart', and she gave us a great write up on Poppy, so you can get to know her before you ever see her.  Poppy is happiest when lying in the sun or napping next to you on the couch. She also likes to sleep at the end of the bed next to your feet.  She is completely housetrained and has never had an accident in the house (she currently enjoys the freedom of a fenced in yard for potty breaks). She will let you know when it is time to play with her tennis ball or go for her daily walk to explore the neighborhood by giving you a look and a bark. Unfortunately, she has issues with smaller dogs and has bitten them when provoked or feeling jealous, so no smaller dogs in her new family. She plays well with bigger dogs and goes to doggy daycare twice a week for socialization, where the staff absolutely adores her. She currently lives with a 70lb coonhound mix who she likes to play with. Poppy came to us three years ago with severe separation anxiety issues but has come a long way and does well for a few hours in her “indestructible” crate – just give her a peanut butter-filled Kong and she will do okay while you go out for a bit. Poppy is looking for a home where she can be the center of your world and she will repay you with unconditional love and companionship. What makes Poppy great… ·         Relatively low energy dog who just enjoys being with her owner(s). She has bouts of energy and will want to play fetch but never for too long. ·         Zero food aggression. She eats when she is hungry, and she loves to savor her treats and thinks ice cubes are the best treat ever! ·         Loves to go on walks and they don’t have to be super long – 10-15 minutes a night keeps her happy, but will happily join you on a longer walk when possible. ·         LOVES people and will happily greet your guests with enthusiasm. She has been around small children with no issues. ·         Well socialized with dogs her size or bigger by going to doggy daycare twice a week (and will be zonked out all night after a day of playing). However, she seems to be more interested in people than other dogs in general. ·         Knows basic commands like sit, shake and come. ·         She is great in cars. She will chill out in the back seat and just enjoy the view. ·         Overall very healthy with no major issues. Where Poppy has some challenges… ·         Separation anxiety – would not do well for long days without someone home – highly recommended that she be crated while alone to avoid any damage to property. ·         Aggression toward smaller dogs – when feeling jealous or annoyed. ·         Good on leash but could use more training/reinforcement as she will get overly excited (pulling, barking) when she sees another dog.   Full of life and love, she is all ready to be yours. She has had a complete vetting and has all her shots. All she needs now to complete her world is for you to clip on your leash, bend over, and say 'Let's go home, Poppy'. If you are interested in Poppy, please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 5:13 pm

She likes to snuggle and sit on your foot. She doesn't like to be alone for too long because she loves her people. I can't give her the attention she needs any more. I live by myself and I will very soon have to be gone to work for 11 hours every day. Lexi can't go to doggy day care because she is afraid of/reactive to dogs and cats. She needs to be somewhere with people and no dogs or cats. I hope someone can help. She is very healthy, but I am afraid that if she goes to a shelter (especially in Prince George's County) that she would be anxious and unhappy and wouldn't live very long. Please foster or adopt this sweetie pie.'Lexi is currently in Greenbelt, MD.Please contact: Charlie Kendall  email: charles.kendall@verizon.net Phone: 301-922-8220Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 28, 2025, 2:52 pm

Story
Ella is 3 years old. I got her when she was 6 weeks old, my 8 year old picked her out, we got her when my father passed away. She is an excellent dog, she loves everyone, she is very mellow and laid back. She would make an amazing service dog for someone. She knows when I'm sad, she comforts me. She loves to run, chase squirrels and swim! She knows as soon as she sees her leash and she gets super excited, she loves being outdoors. She is the absolute best dog I have ever had. She is my life but unfortunately I had to move in with my sister until my place is ready and my sister's landlord is threatening eviction because she doesn't allow pets. I do not want her going to the pound, I want the chance to get her back if possible, but who ever fosters her she will steal their heart guaranteed.

Story
I am Rufus and I am adventurous, goofy, and active! I am also very smart and love love love learning new games. If you`ve never heard of a flirt pole before, you are in for a treat! It is my all-time favorite activity to do at BHS! I do like to pounce on the occasional tennis ball every once in a while. My volunteer friends here at BHS say I enjoy car rides to Chick-fil-A, hikes, letting every deer in the area know I`m there, and giving goofy smiles! I am a special boy in the way that I have not had much luck with other dogs, despite the efforts of my training friends, I would be more comfortable in a home where I am on the only dog. I have a lot of real funny little antics so don`t you worry, you will always be entertained with me around! I would make a great hiking or running partner as I love to go on adventures. Interested in adopting me? We recommend submitting a general online adoption application and then heading to the shelter during our normal adoption hours (Mon: 12-4pm and Tues-Sun: 12-5pm) to meet our available animals. Please note: all applications are considered general until the animal has been met. If you have any questions, please contact animalcenter@bmorehumane.org or 410-833-8848 Ext/Opt 2

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This is a courtesy posting. Please call 410-627-6563 for information. Moose McDougal (Moose, Gary Moosie), Retriever Mix, 2 yo in October 2024, 65 lbs Moose McDougal, the humble dog overflowing with personality. He’s spectacular. He is house and crate trained. He knows basic commands and walks well on a leash. Smarts? Yes! He has brains and beauty. You can get him to do anything for a treat! Good with other dogs? We are so happy to add to Moose’s bio that he could live with another dog. He made fast friends with another foster dog who is smaller and female. He does not need a doggie friend but he has truly enjoyed making a new friend. Favorite things? RUNNING! Investigating! Playing with other dogs. Cutie will play ball by himself by throwing the ball in the air with a flick of his head. No words for the goofiness on display. Personality? Goofy. Caring. Independent. Curious. Background? Moose was adopted as a pup when his original owners were visiting Turks & Caicos. He was brought back to NYC. The bustling city life was not his style. He’s meant to be running free in a yard and not stressed by strangers coming at him from every angle. Ideal Family? Moose needs an adult-only, quiet home. New people scare him. He warms up over time after he feels safe. Totally do-able with patience. Ask us about him getting acquainted with his dog walker. <3 Ideal Home? Give this speedster a good, fenced yard where he can fulfill his fantasy of being the graceful, Axis deer, running through endless fields. We have one strict requirement for Moose’s adoptive family. They must agree to continue his persona of Moose McDougal, investigative reporter, complete with a very specific voice. Story
Dani-Yellow Lab X female, ~ 2 yr. (Dec. 2024) Contact rescuebc@hotmail.com for an application. Dani came to Rescue through a Prison Training Program. Saved from a high kill shelter, she has taken some basic training in a Men's Prison. A favorite of all, including the organizer of the program...they all came to realize that Dani just wants to be part of a family and be a companion and pet. She has been 'released' from the program to find her new family. In the mean time Dani has learned house training, crate training, and basic obedience. She has grooming and husbandry skills now, too. She is a little on the timid side yet, according to her trainer, but with continued work on her life skills, she will move beyond that, too. Dani's adoption fee is $350 to help cover the medical costs of getting ready for adoption. For our application, please email rescuebc@hotmail.com Include your location and a phone number for future communication

She is adorable and charming. This love bug is eager to find her forever home where she can be the center of attention. Meeka is not just cute, she's incredibly smart, a little bit mischievous, and loves to please her person. She'll snuggle with you, play with her toys, and keep you entertained. Meeka will thrive in a home where she can be the center of attention, which is why she would do best as the only pet in the household. She loves being the star of the show and having all the love and attention to herself. While Meeka is incredibly loving and awesome, she prefers a calm and serene environment, making her not suitable for small children. She craves a peaceful atmosphere where she can relax and enjoy the company of her favorite humans. Meeka is house broken and does fine being left on her own in the house. If you're ready to open your heart and home to a pup who will shower you with love and loyalty, Meeka Is the perfect match for you! Meeka is going to need a home with a 6 ft privacy fence around the yard.  If you are interested in Meeka please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 5:13 pm
